Which Were My 3 Favorite Moments from Connect! Re: Dive Season 2 Episode 6?

Yuuki really was trying to help, that’s one strong bottle of wine, and monkey business. What were my 3 favorite moments from Princess Connect! Re: Dive Season 2 Episode 6, “Code Name: Monika ~Bouillabaisse Is Best Enjoyed Hot~”?

Third Favorite Moment: Yuuki’s Inferno

Connect! Re: Dive Season 2 Episode 6: Kuuba Tomi certainly likes her hobbies!

Maybe if she had been less hysterical, she might have talked Yuuki down. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Yuuki struggles at times to put complex thoughts together. Yet, on an instinctive level, he seems to be completely intact. For example, when the bar owner and hostess (at least, I think that’s who they were) told Yuuki they were looking for a worker who had slipped out, Yuuki couldn’t pick up on the high-level concepts they tried to explain to him.

However, he was clear on one point: Something she was doing made the two very, very worried about her. So as he was out and about, keeping an eye open for the red-haired woman (because he had promised to), he came across Kuuka Tomi. She had red hair. She also had a large porn stash.

Large being relative, of course. You might think it was huge, you might think it was tiny. But she had it all laid out for the world to see.

Yuuki saw. He also saw how defensive she got. One might say down right irrational, even suggesting that the porn collection would just “come and go” (05:35) on its own. Instinctively, Yuuki knew porn stashes don’t act like that. This, clearly, was the woman the other two had been worried about. So Yuuki took action. He burned her stash, right in front of her.

In his defense, he really was trying to help.

Second Favorite Moment: It Takes a Village

Connect! Re: Dive Season 2 Episode 6: It was nice seeing the town come together!

There’s just something pleasant about seeing the townsfolk work together like this! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Monika had a rough way to go this episode. Her guild consisted of Kuuka, who let her fetishes turn into obsessions; Yuki Nijimura can’t take her eyes off the mirror long enough to do anything useful; and Ninon Joubert, who is very capable with explosives, but not so capable with judgement. She blew up the bridge they had been standing on, plunging them into the ravine and into debt.

Monika’s superpower was less obvious, but no less impactful to their fortunes. She had grandiose ideas to make money – that turned out to be an even more grandiose way of increasing their debt. Honestly, that’s a formidable skill. Not just anyway can mess up on the scale she demonstrated in this episode!

To make a ton of money, she went hunting for the green goo that powered the toy monkey. She found a lot of it. A whole lot. Enough to consume her, her guild, and some onlookers. When it rolled into town, no doubt looking for more victims, the palace guard took position to defend against it. And the townspeople likewise took up position.

The bar owner saw Monika and friends inside the green goo. So, he took a wine bottle, tied it to a rope, and threw it to Monika. She grabbed it and held on as the whole town pulled.

That must have been one seriously well crafted bottle to hold the combined weight of her guild and stand up the combined power of the townspeople pulling in tandem (19:12).

It was nice seeing everyone come together to rescue the guild that had unleashed the goo to start with.

Favorite Moment: Yuuki and the Toy Monkey

Connect! Re: Dive Season 2 Episode 6: Yuuki and the cymbal-crashing monkey

There’s something tragic yet noble about Yuuki’s choice leaving him in this state. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

In episode 5, we learned a lot more about Yuuki’s past. For example, we learned that he was on a team who stood up against a wildly powerful version of Kaiser Insight – a version who was about to kill Pecorine when Yuuki stepped in front of the blast. He succeeded in saving her. But only for a while. Shortly after he left the battlefield, Pecorine and the rest of the team fell.

Labyrista, with help from Ames, gave the dying Yuuki a tough choice: Die now, with all of his friendships intact, or forsake all of his friendships to go back into that world’s time and try again. We all know what he chose. We saw the anguish and determination in his face. He was a powerful warrior, devoted to his friends, and he loved them enough to give it all up for a chance to save them.

And there he was, at the beginning of this episode (01:48), a vacant expression on his face, clapping in time to the toy monkey’s cymbals.

That image, and all it implied, felt so tragic, that I had to pause the show and take in the moment.

  1. To be fair to Kuuka, she did find them. We saw around the 15 minute mark that Charlie was leaving his old porn stash out for others to find. He wished it well and hoped it didn’t get burnt like the last load. Poor, Kuuka! RIP, erotic books!

    1. They actually ended up in the giant knight monster with Monika and her team and Charlie. Who knows what happened to them after that?

  2. That opening scene does highlight Yuuki’s tragedy. Enjoying a cute little toy isn’t a bad thing itself. But he’s really been through too much. Fighting an enemy he’s lost to some number of times, reduced to a near death state, resetting, amnesia, and yet he has to keep going. His power is too useful and likely a key element to any hope of victory.

Of course he’s not alone there. People do care about him. Support and faith is there for him. Particularly has Kokkoro ready to back him up no matter what state he’s in to the bitter end. Still, it’s a tragic tale. And not sure Yuuki gets enough credit in general for it.

    1. I really like Kokkoro’s role. And I think you summarized Yuuki’s situation well. I’m glad he has so much support, even though it’s another aspect of his tragic situation that he doesn’t usually remember people like Labyrista and Ames.
