MADE IN ABYSS: THE GOLDEN CITY OF THE SCORCHING SUN EPISODE 8

As you may have been able to tell from my review of episode 8, the series Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun is as tough to watch as it is rewarding. That said, I’ve read a number of reviews recently that claim the material suggests that the author is of questionable moral character. As a writer myself, that concerns me. It’s rare I come across a reviewer with the prerequisite psychiatric education or experience to pull off that kind of analysis. Not only that, but in my writings, my antagonists take actions or have attitudes I find morally questionable — them being villains and all. Yet, I don’t view myself as morally reprehensible. I have the same concerns about how people review Jobless Reincarnation.

To be clear: I fully support anyone having any opinion they like. But my experience has led me to favor some types of analysis over others. For example, I really enjoy reading and thinking about reviews that try to figure out what’s going on from the inside. DoubleSama on the site DoubleSama specializes in this kind of review, and that’s on full display in this post. Made in Abyss is a challenging show, but it rewards viewers who pay attention and it’s complex enough to support deep analysis — both of which feature prominently in DoubleSama’s review! See if you agree!

Dr. Stone Special: Ryusui Review

I really enjoyed reviewing Dr. Stone’s first season solo and the Dr. Stone: Stone Wars with Irina from I Drink and Watch Anime. Senkuu, with his scientific perspective, is a character I find easy to root for. I feel the same about most of the cast. So I was really excited to see Dr. Stone: Ryuusui debut recently. I haven’t reviewed it, though there’s a lot I’d like to say about it. Fortunately, I found this post by DReager1 – Zoro will be the Pirate King on the site DReager1.com. It does a great job of exploring what made this bridge between season 2 and season 3 feel so special. What made it that way? There’s one way to find out!

To Boldly Go Where No Catgirl Has Gone Before – Cat Planet Cuties Spoiler Review

Every season, I have to decide on what older series to review. I have a list of candidates and everything! Every season, I narrow it down to three or four. And every season, Cat Planet Cuties makes it to the short list. I just haven’t decided to pull the trigger yet! Until I do, I found the perfect in-depth review to explain why I like the series so much: Austin Harper’s review on the site Harper Anime Reviews. Before you dismiss this series as “just” an ecchi-harem comedy, check out this post — Austin Harper makes some excellent points!

Jonah’s Daily Rants

Skeleton Knight in Another World: More Than an Overlord Clone

Never let it be said that I only celebrate other bloggers’ posts if they agree with my opinion. Here’s proof: the series Skeleton Knight in Another World’s opening scene repelled me so hard I haven’t watching a single moment since. Admittedly, I based my opinion on about ninety seconds of animation. So when I came across this post by Jonah Hunt on Jonah’s Daily Rants, I wondered if he knew something that I didn’t! So I read it — and now I know! Have I added the show to my watch list (which is my universal measure of how much I enjoyed a review)? Well, read Jonah Hunt’s review and see what you think!

Call of the Night, Episode Seven: Reproduce

Call of the Night has rewarded my interest with interesting and complex characters. Its settings, too. Oh, heck, it’s appealing to me over all! But the characters stand out to me. I came across this review by Vintagecoats on the site Vintagecoats that digs into the characters in episode 7 in a way that made me appreciate the episode even more. And as you can see from my review, I already thought very highly of it! What did this review point about about the “vampire dens” that appeal so much to me? I don’t want to spoil it, so you’ll have to read it for yourself!
