5 Favorite Anime Blog Posts from 2022 Week 38

Welcome to My 5 Favorite Anime Blog Posts from 2022 Week 38!

Every week, I check around 330 anime sites. I’m looking for posts that celebrate amazing moments in anime or otherwise blow me away with their wit and charm. The ani-blogging community constantly produces a lot of these posts. I hope this list helps you find some of them!

You can see a list of the sites I check here: Massive List of Sites!

I Drink and Watch Anime

Top 5 Anime Otaku Characters

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again (plus I’ll say it now): making an interesting list is hard. Lists are common within the aniblogging community. Some sites every specialize in them! But their popularity means I’ve seen so many of them that it’s hard for new ones to stick out. They have to deal with a topic that excites me, and they have to include list elements that inspire me.

And guess what? I found such a list this week! Irina from I Drink and Watch Anime just published a list of remarkable otakus within anime series. Whenever I see a list’s topic, I try to mentally generate a similar list, then see how my list compares to the post. Irina’s list started off with a strong #5 — he’s a character I should have picked myself, but didn’t! The entry at #3 is one of my personal favorites — for exactly the reasons she mentioned! And if you’ve followed her site (and who doesn’t?), the character in #1 will come as not surprise — and is a perfect choice. But the other two? They were delightfully unexpected! See if she chose the same characters you would have!

BIRDIE WING: GOLF GIRL’S STORY- THE RIDICULOUS MEETS THE EMOTIONAL

I’m a fan of over-the-top anime series. In fact, when it comes to over-the-top, anime probably does it best (I’m thinking of D-Frag right now). But when Birdie Wing came out, it had a lot of competition. Like, a whole lot. So I couldn’t make time to watch it, despite reading some positive reviews and liking the art I saw from it. And now I’ve read Scott’s review on Mechanical Anime Reviews. You probably know what this means: it means my back log just grew by another series. Yeah, Scott’s descriptions have me convinced I need to watch this sooner or later. See if you have a similar reaction!

Random Curiosity

Fall 2022 Preview

At the end of every season, it seems I celebrate Random Curiosity’s seasonal preview. There’s a very good reason for it. Despite a lot of bloggers putting together a lot of great preview posts, the one from Random Curiosity stands out. It is more comprehensive, contains more in-depth descriptions, and contains a more concise and easy-to-use schedule. What’s more, the Random Curiosity team of writers (led in this case by Pancakes) brings a perspective and excitement to the topic that I’ve not seen elsewhere. So, if you’re curious about what’s coming out in Fall 2022, check out what this post has to offer!

The Review Heap

Jujutsu Kaisen

How many reviews of Jujutsu Kaisen are enough? Just a few more — provided they are interesting and fun to read! Oh, and the post gets huge bonus points if they speak favorably of my favorite character, Nobara Kugisaki. And guess what? This post from ashleycapes on the site The Review Heap hit all of those criteria! He even went above and beyond in his description of Nobara’s weapons. He said a lot more, too. But don’t take my word for it. Read it for yourself!

Shallow Dives in Anime

Cross Ange’s Ange: Forever on the Knife’s Edge

In last week’s post, you may remember that I celebrated Dewbond’s review of Cross Ange that he published on his site Shallow Dives in Anime. This week, he tackled the main character, Angelise Ikaruga Misurugi (a.k.a. Ange). Speaking as a writer who tries to create interesting characters, I really enjoyed his analysis of what makes a strong woman character compelling. In the novels I write, one of the main characters is someone I tried to portray as such a character named Matsushita Sachi. Did I succeed? It’s hard for me to say, but I took it as a good sign that two of my beta readers said she was their favorite character. Even compared to my main character!

That sounds dry, doesn’t it? Fortunately, Dewbond’s analysis of Ange is much more interesting. So is his characterization of Tusk, the lead male character. What did Dewbond like about Ange? What didn’t he like? And what did he say about Tusk? There’s one way to find out!

    1. I didn’t watch it for several seasons after it aired. Which, I guess on the bright side, means I have less time to wait until the next season!
