5 Favorite Anime Blog Posts from 2023 Week 03

Welcome to My 5 Favorite Anime Blog Posts from 2023 Week 03!

Every week, I visit about 320 anime sites looking for posts that celebrate amazing moments in anime or otherwise blow me away with their wit and charm. The ani-blogging community writes a lot of those posts. I hope this list helps you find some of them!

You can see a list of the sites I check here: Massive List of Sites!

Jonah’s Daily Rants

My Review Academia S6 E14: Liberation of the Devil

Can I call an anime series socially important? I hope so, because I think My Hero Academia is. It’s wrestling with concepts that some folks object to, as I tried to discuss in my latest review. The funny thing is, I completely understand their objections. I understand why someone would not to question the righteousness of judging someone who’s in prison. After all, who wants their entire concept of righteousness and civil society upended? I remember how I felt when the understanding hit me.

The only thing worse? The feeling of not knowing, and that, only in retrospect.

But we don’t want a series to be preachy, do we? We want to be entertained. Art needs to do that, or it’s not art — it’s a lecture. That begs the question: was the latest episode of MHA entertaining? Did it hold the viewer’s interest? I came across an insightful answer in this post by Jonah on his site Jonah’s Daily Rants. And the answer is… you have to read the post! Seriously, the nuanced thought and well-sequenced observations are only two reasons to like the post. See if you agree!

Merlin’s Musings

Reincarnated as a Sword

I like using my backlog as an ongoing joke. Or maybe I should think of it as a slightly-unwilling antagonist? In any even, event before reading this post by Merlin on the site Merlin’s Musings, I had Reincarnated as a Sword on my backlog. However, after reading Merlin’s review, now I really, really want to watch the series. His enjoyment of the series came through the review loud and clear. Even better, his reasons for liking the series made one thing obvious: I need to watch this show sooner than later. I might have to prioritize my backlog! See if he talked about what you liked about the series!

RABUJOI

Tenten Kakumei – 03 – So Far From Me

Are you watching The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady? I am — I’m reviewing it, too! The only thing I don’t like about it (so far!) is the enormous length of it’s title! Seriously, Japan — WTH? Would it have killed you to come up with a title that was SEO-friendly? Jeesh!

Jokes about the title’s length aside, I’ve been thinking about why I like this series do much. I mean, after watching the first three episodes, I felt such a warmth and sense of well-being that it actually made me feel better about life. No, seriously! At some point, I’ll figure out how it did that. In the meantime, may I offer this review by sesameacrylic from the site RABUJOI to give you insights into why this show is so much fun? sesameacrylic gave it five out of five stars. Even better, sesameacrylic explained why in an entertaining way! See if you agree with the post’s ideas!

Shallow Dives in Anime

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War First Cour: The Bronze Medal Shines

Putting these posts together isn’t the fun-filled romp you might think it is. Every week, I face a terrible, nearly-crushing dilemma. See, I want to project an aura of impartiality, and honestly, I try to maintain that. But here’s the thing: there are about ten blogs that I like so much I could celebrate every one of their posts! The net effect is that I have to be careful not to turn my weekly 5 Favorite Blog Posts into an advertisement for those ten sites! I want to spread the love, so to speak.

Does that mean I’m not being fair to those ten sites? Maybe. That’s the dilemma.

You may have guessed that Shallow Dives in Anime is one of those sites, and you’d be right! It’s not a huge secret. Ever year, I publish my top five favorite sites, as you can see in this post for 2022. Why has Shallow Dives in Anime been on that list every year since 2019? What about Dewbond’s posts on that site are so inviting, insightful, and interesting? Well, this post about Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War is a perfect example. In a remarkably few number of words, Dewbond basically lays out Bleach’s soul. Not only that, he nails what made this first cour so special. See if you agree!

T.H.E.M. Anime Reviews

Raven of the Inner Palace

I don’t like to use the word “underrated,” because it implies an objective standard for which I cannot finding supporting evidence. But if I were to use that word, I’d apply it to Raven of the Inner Palace from last season. I tried to say why in my reviews of the individual episodes. But sometimes, a perspective based on the entire series as a whole can deliver a more clear message. That’s the case with this review by Allen Moody on the site T.H.E.M. Anime Reviews. Aside from the spot-on depiction of Shouxue, the post also surfaces many of the things that made the series memorable. See if Allen Moody brought up the things you liked about the series!
