5 Favorite Anime Blog Posts from 2023 Week 15

Welcome to My 5 Favorite Anime Blog Posts from 2023 Week 15!

Every week, I visit over 300 anime sites looking for posts that celebrate amazing moments in anime or otherwise blow me away with their wit and charm. These five posts are my favorite for the week! I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did!

You can see a list of the sites I check here: Massive List of Sites!

Oshi no Ko – 01 [First Look]

Talk about a show that generated a lot of buzz! I think I remember seeing the key image for Oshi no Ko on LiveChart.me’s Spring 2023 listing. The art style didn’t speak to me. Neither did the blurb. But, my judgement may have been premature. This week, there were a lot of thought-provoking and insightful reviews of the series, but my favorite was from FlareKnight on the site Anime Evo. FlareKnight conveyed not only the essence of the episode, but his thoughts and feelings about it as well. In other words, you won’t get that review anywhere else — which is one of the things that makes it cool!

Beneath the Tangles

Review: Suzume

Confession time! No, nothing like that. I’m far too boring for any really interesting confessions. No, I’m going to confess that I have an ulterior motive for searching the anime blogging sphere every week. I actually want to know what I’m missing! What series did I not catch? What movie? This week, Claire from Beneath the Tangles brought the movie Suzume to my attention. And Claire did so in a way that gave me chills. It helped that the post’s first sentence was so gripping, there was no way I wasn’t going to read the whole post! See if you have a similar reaction!

NINGEN FUSHIN: ADVENTURERS WHO DON’T BELIEVE IN HUMANITY WILL SAVE THE WORLD SEASON 1 REVIEW: A GLORIOUS ADVENTURE OF GREAT CHARACTERS

I like shows that make an effort to do something or say something interesting even if they don’t quite achieve greatness. Take, for example, the series from Winter 2023 called Ningen Fushin: Adventurers Who Don’t Believe in Humanity Will Save the World. Will the animation make ufotable gnash their teeth in envy? No. You could see the animators wrestling with time and budget through most of its run. But it had a charm that I really liked. This week, I found this post by GETMOREXP on the site GETMOREXP, and the post proves that GETMOREXP saw past some of the superficial issues to enjoy what the show had to offer. I think you’ll be more inclined to give the show a chance after reading this review!

Merlin’s Musings

The Accidental Demon Lord

There are a lot of bloggers out there who either specialize in lists or put an occasional list together. Given the creativity behind those lists, it’s getting harder and harder to write new kinds. But that doesn’t mean it’s impossible, as this post by Merlin on the site Merlin’s Musings proves. Demon lords who became demon lords accidentally? That’s a cool concept! And best of all? Merlin demonstrated a keen understanding of one of my personal favorites accidental demon lords. You’ll know when you see it! See if he mentioned your favorite accidental demon lord!

Shallow Dives in Anime

BLUELOCK: Go Super Strikers!

We talked about how Oshi no Ko didn’t attract my attention before the season started. FlareKnight’s post convinced me to give it a chance. I love it when that happens. I understand that as a human, I have limitations. I can’t overcome them if they’re never challenged. And let’s face it: I have so many limitations that there’s no way I can challenge them all by myself! I need help!

Dewbond, on the site Shallow Dives in Anime, just did the same thing — this time, for the series Blue Lock. I don’t mind sports anime — I enjoyed Keijo!!!!!!!!, Harukana Receive, and Iwa Kakeru! Sport Climbing Girls, after all. Which probably says more about my tastes than I’d like… Anyway, Dewbond shared his thoughts on Blue Lock, and I have to say, he convinced me to add it to my backlist! In the upper third, too. And that’s saying something! See if his post encourages you to watch!

  1. I was hoping you’d be reviewing oshi no ko. That first episode was everything. Impactful to the point i had to go search for songs which would be fitting for a (music) video on it, hours after seeing the episode..

    1. It took me completely by surprise! By the time I found what what it was (which was FlareKnight’s review), my schedule was full.

It’s great to watch something that fires up your imagination, isn’t it? That’s one of hte reasons I watch anime in the first place!

      1. What a great feeling when i get… captivated? by an anime like that. Indeed its one of those reasons why i love this medium so much.

Please let me know what you think!
