Welcome to My 5 Favorite Anime Blog Posts from 2023 Week 28!
Every week, I visit over 285 anime sites looking for posts that celebrate amazing moments in anime or otherwise blow me away with their wit and charm. These five posts are my favorite for the week! I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did!
You can see a list of the sites I check here: Massive List of Sites!
Hanime on Anime
Hell’s Paradise: Mappa’s Inferno
I don’t often write whole-series reviews (except for my Call of Fame inductions). That means I don’t often reflect on a series as a whole. I prefer to write about my reactions episode-by-episode, but I really appreciate a whole-series review that gets me fired up about a show. I found just such a review this week in Hanime on Anime’s post on her site Hanime on Anime. Hanime on Anime wrote about Hell’s Paradise, including what seemed to work and what might not have worked so well. I appreciated how she talked about one of the show’s aspects that really resonated with me — can you guess what it was? I think it’ll be easy once you read her post!
I Drink and Watch Anime
ZOM 100 – Episode 1
Did you watch the first episode of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead? I did — and by now, you know that I’m not going to tell you why, because this is the part where I name a blogger and their blog. I’m glad you’re reading so carefully that you picked up on that! So let me direct your attention to Irina’s post on her site I Drink and Watch Anime. She watched the first episode — and she read the manga, too! So her opinion is as lucid and fun to read as every, and it’s doubly-informed! See if she talked about the things you liked about the episode.
Mage in a Barrel
Don’t Let All the Joyless Hacks Who Only Hate on Things Distract You from the Fact that The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses Is Super Fun
I’m kind of Rom-Comed out, so I haven’t watched The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses yet. But I saw one of the series of shots that has, I guess, become infamous. Chibi Reviews showed it in the beginning of their YouTube video This Anime Trailer is Very Ugly in a Beautiful Way. I guess a lot of folks have been ridiculing it. Maybe they think they can get clicks that way? Honestly, I had two thoughts immediately on seeing those shots. First, I thought it made me a little dizzy. But second, and I’d suggest more importantly, I thought, “Cool. That studio’s trying something different. Good for them!”
I was glad to see that I wasn’t alone in having that (or a similar) thought. I found this review by iblessall on the site Mage in a Barrel. The review takes a refreshingly open-minded approach to reviewing the episode. So much so that I am reconsidering my decision to not watch it as it airs. Reviews like that — reviews that help me see an anime through the blogger’s eyes — are why I journey the anime blogosphere every Friday night. See if you have a similar reaction!
Shallow Dives in Anime
Konosuba: An Explosion on this Wonderful World: A Tale of Two Chunis
“Oh, no!” I can hear you saying. “You’re not celebrating another review of KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World!, are you?” I sure am! And I have two excuses. First, Dewbond’s review on Shallow Dives in Anime spoke well of Yunyun. I recognize that as the sign of a deep-thinking, well-consider reviewer. Obviously, I wanted to share a review like that with you! And second, Dewbond points out some less successful aspects of the show. That means you get balance! So much coolness in a single post!
Wrong Every Time
Spy x Family – Episode 21
Are you as busy as I am? Between a primary career, my family, and my writing, I usually work from the time I wake up at 4:30AM until I crash at about 10:30PM. That means I get little time to contemplate. Or breath. Well, no, I do breath, I just don’t feel like it half the time. Because of that, I easily get off on tangents and can lose my train of thought…
It’s a cheap joke, but it’s what I got to offer.
My point is that it’s hard for me to make time to remember amazing moments in anime that has finished airing. I rewatch a few series often. But most series recede into the past. That’s why I really enjoy reading fresh and insightful review of older series. This week, Bobduh on the site Wrong Every Time reminded me what I enjoyed so much about episode 21 of SPY x FAMILY. It was great to end my week with memories like that. See if you have a similar reaction!
