5 Favorite Anime Blog Posts from 2023 Week 31

Welcome to My 5 Favorite Anime Blog Posts from 2023 Week 31!

Every week, I visit over 285 anime sites looking for posts that celebrate amazing moments in anime or otherwise blow me away with their wit and charm. These five posts are my favorite for the week! I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I did!

You can see a list of the sites I check here: Massive List of Sites!

But Why Tho

REVIEW: ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ Episode 29 — “Premature Death”

When I say I’m not watching Jujutsu Kaisen 2nd Season, you might suspect that’s because I don’t have time. You might also expect me to complain about my expanding backlog. Not so! I’m not watching this season because I plan to binge it when the season wraps up! However, posts like this one by Charles Hartford on the site But Why Tho make me want to watch it right away. Charles Hartford’s analysis of this episode’s events on Gojou were particularly effective. See if you agree!

Hanime on Anime

Character of the Month: Gabimaru

Hell’s Paradise did a lot to capture my imagination last season. The unique setting alone would be enough to keep me interested, because I love good world-building. But the show had more than that going for it. The setting fit the themes, and I’m a sucker for interesting themes. Most of all, the series had compelling characters. Hanime on Anime, on the site Hanime on Anime, singled one as the character of the month. That character? Well, you can see his name in the post’s title: Gabimaru. Why did Hanime on Anime choose Gabimaru? What were his most interesting traits? There’s only one way to find out!

I Drink and Watch Anime

ZOM 100 – Episode 4

I’ve run into a problem here, and I’m not sure there’s anything you can do to help me fix it. There are a handful of sites (like the five listed in My 5 Favorite Anime Sites from 2022) that have written so many of my favorite anime posts that I’m running out of ways to say “Writer $thiswriter on $thissite writes good.” I mean, come on, English on has so many words! I feel like I’m letting these writers down…

But I’ll tell you who isn’t letting anyone down (yes, it’s a strained segue, but please work with me here): Irina on her site I Drink and Watch Anime, that’s who! She reviewed the latest episode of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead. The post delivers her trademark subtle character and plot insights, with a helping of intriguing thematic insights. Well, that’s a little more descriptive than just saying she wrote YAGR (Yet Another Great Review)!

Jonah’s Daily Rants

Main Character in Another World: Natsuki Subaru

It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to talk about Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, and that’s one of the reasons I was happy to see this post by Jonah Hunt on the site Jonah’s Daily Rants. It’s not only one of my favorite isekai series; it’s one of my favorites, period. That has a lot to do with the main character, Subaru Natsuki. What about Subaru do I find so compelling? Well, one correct answer would be that he provided a vehicle to get Echidna on screen. For that, I will forever be grateful. But that’s not the answer I’m looking for now! That answer is: you’ll have to read Jonah Hunt’s post to find out!

Please No Hate

MY HAPPY MARRIAGE, OR EMPOWERING THE ABUSED

A good review can help me appreciate a scene that I’ve already watched. A great review presents a perspective that can make that same scene so immersive it’s like I lived it. I came across such a great review this week: Takafumi’s review on Please No Hate of one of My Happy Marriage’s recent episodes. I read the description of a specific scene and thought, “Wow. That’s powerfully emotional.” Then I read the punchline describing how the scene presented itself. I’m not capturing the strength of this review’s reveal — and I’m coming up blank trying to think of how else to word it. I guess you’ll just have to read it for yourself!
