Animated Observations
THE OBSERVATION DECK: SERIAL EXPERIMENTS LANE AND PREDICTING THE INTERNET
I’ve heard about Serial Experiments Lane, on and off, for years. I had a sense I wanted to see it, but the crush of seasonal anime + my astonishingly huge backlog + RL = no time. So, a vague concept of the series haunted my subconscious. Until now! This post by JACK SCHEIBELEIN on the site Animated Observations put to rest the question of whether or not I wanted to see the series. The answer is a resounding “Yes!” The reasons? Well, you’ll have to read this post to find out!
Beneath the Tangles
First Impression: Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End
I first heard about Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End from a video Gigguk made about the manga. Gigguk has a way with words, an easy presentation style that draws one in. So, when I saw this post describing the anime’s debut by Twwk on the site Beneath the Tangles, I was really curious. And guess who else has an easy presentation style that draws one in? Twwk, that’s who! I don’t think I’ll review this series in the upcoming season, but it’s on the watch list, that’s for sure. Check out Twwk’s post to see why!
Confessions of an Overage Otaku
THE POWER OF FOUR PLUS ONE: TORADORA
Someday, I vow to review Toradora. It’s one of a handful of series that I rated a 10 on MAL. There are a lot of reasons for that. I would say characters are one of the reasons, and they are — but I enjoyed the character interactions even more. That’s why I heartily recommend this post by The Overage Otaku on the site Confessions of an Overage Otaku: it focuses on the interactions of the five main characters. I really liked how The Overage Otaku breaks down concepts of story craftsmanship. “Story craftsmanship” might sound kind of dry, but not when The Overage Otaku describes it! I liked Toradora before. I like it even more now! But, wait, what’s better than a 10? While I ponder that, please head over to read the post. You’ll be glad you did!
Harshit’s Reviews
Shikimori’s not just a cutie – Not a masterpiece but overhated
I remember two things about watching Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie. First, I remember enjoying it. Second, I remember being perplexed at the negativity in the reviews I read about the series. Now, I tend to ignore that sort of thing. “The discourse” doesn’t interest me. But I’ve often wondered if the things I liked about the show were the same things others liked. I learned the answer tonight: yes! Harshit Sagar, on the site Harshit’s Reviews, just published a review that I might have written. Except that, you know, he did it in an entertaining way. Go read it if you don’t believe me!
The Mind of the Hybrid One
ANIME DISCOVERY XXIII: My Happy MARRIAGE – #245
Have you ever happened upon a series that you didn’t really think you’d like? And then, once you started watching it, it blew you away? Isn’t that kind of surprise awesome? That’s the genesis of this post by Mark King on the site The Mind of the Hybrid One. The series in question was “My Happy Marriage“. I loved how he described his initial reaction, but that was only the start! The whole review was a blast to read. If you had any doubts about watching the show, this post will take care of them!
