5 Favorite Anime Blog Posts from 2024 Week 14

Every week, I visit about 280 anime sites looking for posts that celebrate amazing moments in anime or otherwise blow me away with their wit and charm. These are my five favorite posts for the week. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

You can see a list of the sites I check here: Massive List of Sites!

All About Anime and Manga

Sucy Manbavaran, a Mischievous Witch

It’s been a long time since I watched Little Witch Academia. Despite that, I clearly remember an engaging plot, a fascinating world, and captivating characters. While I found Atsuko Kagari an enjoyable lead, she wasn’t my favorite character. Even while I watched the series for the first time, that distinction went to Sucy Manbavaran. This week, I came across this post by Tessa on the site All About Anime and Manga. The post took me on an enjoyable trip down memory lane. Now I remember why Sucy appealed so much to me! See if you have a similar reaction!

Anime Evo

Spice and Wolf (2024) – 01 [First Look]

I remember watching the original Spice and Wolf back in the day. Can you believe it came out in 2008? That’s about 16 years ago. Instead of contemplating the nature of time, let’s do something more constructive. Like talk about the reincarnation of that series called Spice and Wolf: Merchant Meets the Wise Wolf. After seeing it in the seasonal previews, I found myself excited to see how it turned out. And just how did it turn out? FlareKnight, on the site Anime Evo, watched the first episode and let us know. The post goes into fantastic detail about whether the show lived up to the hype. Go see what FlareKnight thought!

Solo Leveling Season One Review: Arise

Solo Leveling is on my backlist. Big shock, huh? Despite its status, I kept up with episodic reviews. I think they gave me an idea of the show’s strengths. Which is why I really liked this post by Getmorexp on the site Get More XP: the post took a slightly different approach! Posts that speak from a writer’s unique perspective are among my favorites, and this post certainly qualifies. Go see if you agree!

Merlin’s Musings

The Magical Fantasy of Frieren

Speaking of different perspectives, Merlin on the site Merlin’s Musings just posted a distinctive view of why Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End hit so hard. The show is so well-liked that it’s hard to find a unique take on it — in part because it’s so obviously well-crafted on so many points, and writers pick up on those! Merlin’s post presented a unique take on how those elements worked together. It gave me some more reasons to like the show. That’s saying a lot, because I already like it quite a bit! See if you have a similar experience!

Phoenix Talks Pop Culture Japan

The Short and Long of Gushing Over Magical Girls

There are some topics that are flat out hard to write about. The topic itself might lack a widely-shared vocabulary; it might be considered taboo in some circles; or the topic might be on some virtual tribe’s hit list. Gushing Over Magical Girls packaged several of those topics, which make it a tough show to discuss. I’ve read some engrossing posts about the show, but I think I consider this post by RisefromAshes on the site Phoenix Talks Pop Culture Japan to be simultaneously the most comprehensive and most subtle take on the show and its themes. I’m glad to see courageous and insightful posts like this. See what you make of it!
