5 Favorite Anime Blog Posts from 2024 Week 33

Every week, I visit over 245 anime sites looking for posts that celebrate amazing moments in anime or otherwise blow me away with their wit and charm. These are my five favorite posts for the week. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

You can see a list of the sites I check here: Massive List of Sites!

9 Tailed Kitsune

Chainsaw Man Season 1 Review: A Bloody Good Time

I really liked the anime version of Chainsaw Man. The animation grabbed and held onto my attention — especially the gory bits. I don’t generally like gore, because in too many instances, it seems gratuitous. For this show, though, every bit meant something! But it wasn’t only the art and its contribution to the plot. The characters, too, felt compelling. This review by R. T. Reid on the site 9 Tailed Kitsune hit on those topics and more. I particularly enjoyed R. T. Reid’s insights about Denji. See if the review talks about what you enjoyed in the show!

All About Anime and Manga

MAYONAKA PUNCH Episode 5: A Deserted Island Challenge

I’m not watching Mayonaka Punch this season. [ Insert my usual spiel about not enough time here ] I hadn’t thought much about it until I read this review by Tessa on All About Anime and Manga. Now I’m conflicted. The review’s discussion of episode 5 made it sound like this show would be a lot of fun, and I loved the recap of the episode’s key points. What interested me the most were Tessa’s questions for upcoming episodes. That’s good stuff! It means the show’s storytelling is working, and it makes me want to watch the series even more. So, onto the backlog it goes!

ARUM JOURNAL

Maho Aku Episode 6 Review – THIS MAGICAL GIRL SAYS F*CK

The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies was one of the shows I had wanted to watch this season. It looked like it might be an interesting take on the magical girl trope. To put it into context, my favorite magical girl is Mamika Kirameki from re:CREATORS, and, well, let’s just say I admired the narrative structure and unique take on this genre’s tropes in Mahou Shoujo ni Akogarete. In this post on ARUM JOURNAL, ecargmura has me convinced that I was right to think this show would be fun to watch. Hibana Kagari sounds like a character with a lot of potential. Well, a backlog is made to grow, right? Right?

The Otaku Author

Keijo!!!!!!!! (Episode 2) – The Hip Toss Brings Us Together!!!!

There are some hills I’ll metaphorically die on. One of those hills can be summed up like this: Keijo!!!!!!!! is the most enjoyable sports anime I’ve ever seen. I could wax poetically about Nozomi Kaminashi’s growth as a character. Or the intricacies of the spectator sport that is Keijo. But I can do even better than that. I can direct you to Lynn’s review on the site The Otaku Author. Lynn gives a clear-headed, comprehensive set of reasons why this so is such a blast to watch. I think it might actually be my favorite review of this series. See if you agree!

Seinenrider

Analyzing Elf Waifus – Marcille And Frieren

When I saw the title of seinenrider’s post on the site Seinenrider, I expected a light-hearted, humorous post about Marcille from Delicious in Dungeon and Frieren from Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End. And to be clear, I did get that. The post is funny! But what surprised me is how much more the post delivered. It’s a great dive into both characters! And it even went so far as to compare these elves to elves in other media — including Galadriel. That’s some serious level of coolness there! And no, I don’t care how many times the 1980s calls and asks for their slang back. It’s mine, and I’m not giving it up. This post is cool, and that’s all there is to it!

  1. Oh, I totally read Arum Journal’s post, and they are so right, that episode was super funny! I love the characters in that anime, they always surprise me and make me laugh.

  2. Thanks for the shout out! I’m loving rewatching Keijo!!!!!!!! and am glad you’re enjoying my posts. It’s yet another show that gets dismissed out of hand because of the fan service.

  3. TCrow, I believe it’s possible that Subaru’s connection with Satella and Emilia might have to do with an extremely powerful curse.

Rewatching the OVA, Melakuera, the previous Great Spirit of Fire, stated that he had faced world-ending crises countless times and ranted on and on about the Witch’s return.

I know people may be inclined to rule it out as pure discrimination against Emilia ’cause of Satella and Emilia’s resemblance, but he may have physically witnessed a Witch returning repeatedly with the world burning every time that happened.

If that is indeed what happened, then Subaru might be cursed to never be able to save Satella and Emilia, and the only way to end the curse would be to kill Satella and Emilia.

I suspect that is one of the reasons Satella requested for Subaru to come kill her after he loves himself in Episode 38, ’cause she wants to help save the world.

      1. Probably someone who has yet to be revealed as it’d be the true big bad of the series. If such a curse exists, it was casted thousands or even millions of years ago with the world coming to an end repeatedly and restarting for the curse of the hero never being able to save the heroine to manifest itself over and over again.

I take it that the characters from Satella’s time learned what was happening and set the stage for the world to be saved with Satella, Echidna, and Pandora being the main drivers of the plan. Melakuera’s mind may have somehow persisted even as the world restarted repeatedly, which would make finding the reason for that happening important if that is indeed happening.

      2. And now that I think about it, there is a simple explanation for how Melakuera’s mind might have persisted after the world restarted. If there is some yet-to-be determined force saving Melakuera just as the world is about to be destroyed and summoning him into the restarted world, that would be how his mind persists. I wonder who had been doing the summoning in this case.

Please let me know what you think!
