Shangri-La Frontier: Episode 27 Review [Season 2 – Episode 2]

Over the last couple of weeks, when I’ve been celebrating posts, did you notice many of those posts were about shows I’m actually watching? That’s a shocking change of pace, isn’t it? So it’s with something like like relief that we move back onto familiar footing with this post by kvasir369 on the site Kvasir369. As you can tell from the title, it’s about the show Shangri-La Frontier Season 2. This marks a return to normalcy — it’s both a show I’m not watching and a show that I want to watch after reading a compelling review! Humor aside, kvasir369’s combination of synopsis and insightful review makes me want to make room for this show. Go see what I mean!

Merlin’s Musings

Anime Review: Dead Mount Death Play

Merlin, on the site Merlin’s Musings, continues our theme of “Return to Normalcy” with a review of Dead Mount Death Play. Not going to lie — I had never heard of this show! And that’s strange to me, because it came out recently (April 2023). Though maybe it’s not so strange, given how this year has gone. And last five or… okay, I’m marking that rabbit hole off limits. Ahem. Merlin laid out the show’s premise, and as soon as I got to his mention of the title “Corpse God,” I was hooked. I mean, seriously. How cool a title is that? There’s also talk of a shark plushie, and it even makes sense. Yeah, thanks to Merlin, this show’s going on my back log for sure.

The Persian Serpent King And Laios Explored

In the last few years, I’ve heard fewer disparaging comments about anime. Maybe it’s because I blocked all the people who complained; maybe it’s because there’s less serious analysis going on. Or maybe it’s something more positive — like what Bimo brings up in this post from Seinenrider. The post talks about Laios from Delicious in Dungeon. It turns out that Laios has a literary counterpart in ancient literature — from the Persian empire, no less! And I thought the Corpse God was cool! It was an absolute delight to read Bimo’s account of how Laios relates to that ancient literature. There are some anime that can stand on equal footing with the world’s enduring literature. Looks like Delicious in Dungeon might be among them!

Re:Zero Season 3 Episode 3 Analysis + Important Details

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 3 is back, and I’ve done a good job so far watching each new episode as it airs. But for me, whose short-term memory sucks (I’d put a joke here about forgetting what I was saying, but then I might forget what I was saying), this show can be a chore at times. The writer, Tappei Nagatsuki, is a genius who writes at a level I can only dream about achieving. But as a viewer, I forget some of the details! Fortunately, we have anicritic on the site Thorough Watch to explain what some of the details meant. Anicritic has a remarkable memory for details. Even more impressive is anicritic’s ability to weave these details together. Heck, anicritic explained details I didn’t know need explaining! And I enjoyed the episode more because of it. See what you think!

Wistoria: Wand and Sword Review (Spoiler Free)

I reviewed Wistoria: Wand and Sword, and if you read those reviews, you likely know I enjoyed it thoroughly. But my reviews focus on a favorite quote and favorite moment, so I have to admit that my reviews may leave some important things unsaid. Fortunately, Yomu, on the site Umai Yomu Anime Blog, took a look at the series from a more comprehensive perspective. Yomu talks about what worked for the show as a whole, as well as what didn’t work. Speaking as someone who loved the show, I can attest that Yomu’s points, positive and negative, were spot on. See if you agree!

  1. Thanks for the shoutout, TCrow. I will try to get my write-up for Episode 4 and my theory follow-up post up later today. I should also finally have time to improve the look of my blog next week.

    1. You’re welcome!

I think it took me 2 years to get my site looking about how I wanted. Then another 2 years to get it to where it is now. It’s “good enough” — I don’t have time to make it look any better. It’s a shame — I’d kinda like to spend time on it!

Please let me know what you think!
