Mayonaka Punch: The Bloodlust and Burnout of Content Creation
I’ve been very introspective these last few weeks. I’m questioning all of my assumptions, and I’m re-evaluating my conclusions. The good news? As far as I can tell, I haven’t been completely wrong. Ironically, that’s also the bad news. Because I really, really wish I was wrong. That said, I’ve challenged myself to get more precise in identifying and tracing some of the social drivers that got us where we are today. Asking “how did we get so divided here in the USA” is not productive. “What role did YouTube’s (or Facebook’s, or etc.) algorithms play in dividing us?” That specific question tied me to a series of facts, which themselves led to other facts.
I can deal with facts. I can prove them; disprove them; combine them into testable hypotheses. No matter how insane the world gets, as long as I can latch onto a single fact, I can find my way home.
It was with that mindset that I came across this post by Alex Henderson on the site The Afictionado. The post talks about Mayonaka Punch and its themes. As I read, I realized that this post closed some loops that I hadn’t been able to close — in spite of the facts being right there in front of me. So not only did the post entertain me — I made some important connections that I can use to better understand the world! How cool is that?

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – 32
I’m really enjoying FlareKnight’s coverage of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War – The Conflict on Anime Evo. Now, the post didn’t help me make any macro connections regarding our social dysfunction’s meta causes . But it did something that I consider every bit as important, especially in trying times like these. Namely, it entertained me and it showed a passion for a series that I enjoy. It was a human connection in a world where such things are increasingly rare.
I know, I’m getting sententious. It’s that kind of week.
But if you like Bleach at all, and if you want to share an engaging and enjoyable view of the latest episode, you know what to do!

Dandadan Episode 7 Review – A Mother’s Love
Do you remember the opening scenes from the movie Up? I don’t know about you, but four minutes into that movie, I was an emotional wreck. The shots were so effective, the emotions presented with such understatement, that even as the viewer in me sobbed, the writer was taking notes. I felt privileged to have seen such a thing once.
I feel just as privileged to witness its near equal now — complete with being an emotional basket case and with taking more notes about story craftsmanship. What am I talking about? Well, please let me direct your attention to ecargmura’s review of Dandadan on the site ARUM JOURNAL. The review movingly speaks of a scene from episode 7 that reminded me strongly of that scene from Up. How does ecargmura think the sequence worked within the context of this episode? Head on over and find out!

DAN DA DAN – 07 – Mother
This episode of Dandadan was so good that it generated another gripping review — this time by braverade on the site RABUJOI. Braverade took a slightly different approach than the previous post, which just means we get to experience that episode through another set of eyes! This was certainly an episode big enough to standard up to such attention. Go see if braverade saw what you enjoyed about this episode!

Anime Review #134: Sword Art Online – Ordinal Scale
I still fondly remember going to see Sword Art Online – Ordinal Scale in the theater. You know, it might have been the last movie I saw in public. At the very least, it was one of the last. From my perspective, it was well worth it. So when I saw this review by The Traditional Catholic Weeb on the site The Traditional Catholic Weeb, I had to check it out. I’m very glad I did! It sounds like The Traditional Catholic Weeb saw and enjoyed many of the same things I did. That has to be a sign of a great review, right? Well, even if the review had completely disagreed with me, it still contains some great insights and enjoyable moments.
A side note: I fully endorse The Traditional Catholic Weeb’s “Favourite moment.” The only thing more adorable than Keiko Ayano (Silica) singing Ubiquitous DB was her reaction to the applause when she finished. What am I talking about? Well, you’ll have to read the post to find out!

It’ll be interesting to see Re:Zero return in February with the second part of the Priestella arc. I don’t know if I’ll be blogging something else in the meantime, but if I do, it won’t be more than 2 shows given my slow typing, and I expect to only cover 1 show if I do blog something else. I’ll probably cover both The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 and the next part of Re:Zero Season 3 when it returns in February.
Thanks!
Looking forward to your opinions about Apothecary Diaries! I still need to watch the first season.
TCrow, I’ve posted most of the content in my new post on your blog before, but this time, I’m adding a theory as well.

Since Beatrice confirmed the existence of hexes this season, I believe Priscilla will actually save Subaru from a hex in a future arc.
Apparently, Sony is in talks to purchase Kadokawa, and if this goes through, I can see an increase in censorship for Kadokawa IPs.
I saw that. I’m not enthusiastic about it!
Here’s the link to my analysis of Episode 57:
https://thoroughwatch.org/?p=52
I believe Al’s words hint at a lot of things relevant to how he might fit into the story. I also did an analysis on the title of the episode since I thought it was relevant.
That’s a very interesting theory about Al.
I’m not sure I completely buy his association with Echidna, but I can’t deny your reasoning. The author here is so subtle that Al might be as you describe; or he might be a red herring!
That said, I’m having fun thinking about your reasoning. I’m looking forward to seeing how close your conclusions are to what the series gave us!
I approved your comment on my blog. Since you responded to it both there and here, I decided to respond to it here since you’re here more than you are anywhere else.
When Al gave his “Hmph” response to Subaru saying that’s so like Emilia to do what she did with her Beatrice remark, that’s what made me think that Al had accepted Echidna’s contract since the only other person we know that dislikes Emilia’s selflessness that much is Echidna herself. I think that I’ll edit that into my blog post now since I wasn’t 100% clear what I was referring to.
I do accept that maybe Al dislikes Emilia’s selflessness for a different reason, and I could be reading too much into that one interaction. What I’m positive is that that “Hmph” is likely important in some way and will have further relevance in the story as we learn more about Al.

Dandadan Episode 7 is just so tragic. Man, for an anime about eccentric nutsack hunting, it sure brings in waterworks.
Sometimes, a series heavy with comedy can pack the hardest emotional punch. To this day, I still remember some episodes of MASH because of their punch, even though it was considered a comedy series. That Dandadan episode blew me away in a good way!
