Dandadan Episode 11 Review – Jiji Says Hehe
There aren’t many anime sites that provide episodic reviews anymore, which is a shame. Yes, I enjoy reading whole series reviews, and I enjoy reading editorials and lists. But there’s something enjoyable about experiencing an anime series episode by episode with a blogger. It gives me insights into the writer’s perspective. It feels like I’m watching a series with a friend. That’s the sense I get when I read ecargmura’s reviews of Dandadan on the site ARUM JOURNAL. Ecargmura has a keep eye for narrative detail. Not only that, ecargmura has a sense of humor that’s reminds me of mine (and I mean that as a compliment, just to be clear!). Those traits are in full view in the review of episode 11. Go see if ecargmura called out what you enjoyed about the episode!

REVIEW: ‘DanDaDan’ Season 1 Is A Masterful Blend Of Heart And Humor
I just sang the praises of episode reviews. Now, I’d like to to the same thing for whole series reviews! And as an aside, if you do both on your site, you’re among my favorite bloggers! Anyway. Sometimes, you can’t see the forest for the trees when you review individual episodes. Sometimes you need to take a look back to see the patterns. Kyle Foley just proved that in this review posted on the site But Why Tho? Dandadan is a series that’s worth taking a look at from this perspective. For example, how did Momo and Okarun drive the plot? What developments worked, and which didn’t? Kyle Foley answered those questions and more!

Eggs, Dreams, and Psyche: A Surreal Dive into Angel’s Egg
I love the variety and deep expertise I encounter when I go on my Friday night anime blog excursions. There are folks who have watched more anime than I have, even though I have been at this for a long time, and I’ve seen a lot. Almost every Friday night, I find an article that talks about a series or a movie I’ve never even heard of. This week, the honor belongs to Salman Al Farisi on the site Calxylian. I don’t want to give anything away about the movie in question, Angel’s Egg, so I’ll just say this: the descriptions in this post were so evocative that I really, really want to drop everything and go watch it. See if you have a similar reaction!

Character Analysis: Frieren
I’ve mentioned before that even though I’ve been writing fiction for about fifty years, I still learn something almost every time I read one of The Overage Otaku’s posts on Confessions of an Overage Otaku. It doesn’t always have to be profound. It can be a reminder of the basics. This post is a great example of that. What makes Frieren such a compelling character? I’ve read a lot of opinions about that, but none more convincing than what The Overage Otaku just presented here. Want to see his idea? Then you know what to do!

Most Emotional Anime (30 Days of Anime – Years 1 to 5) – Day 3
Here on Crow’s World of Anime, I’m all about celebrating anime. Usually, that takes the form of me presenting my favorite quote and favorite moment from an episode. This weekly article, featuring my 5 favorite anime blog posts, lets me share in the celebrations of others. That makes Lynn’s post on The Otaku Author a perfect candidate for this article! In this post, Lynn covers the most emotional series for each of the five years that The Otaku Author has been around. Not wanting to spoil the surprise, I’ll just say this: I can personally vouch for four the the five series. And the fifth? It’s in my backlog. Go see if he talks about a series that spoke to you!

“What’s the weirdest anime?” Is it Angel’s Egg or Cat Soup? Both lack dialog. Or is there something even weirder? Apparently the disaster of Egg ensured that Oshii would never have a free hand again without someone holding the reins.
Agreed- if you have a character with some special feature, like Frieren, thinking through all the implications and sticking to them makes a huge difference.
I’ve watched several series I otherwise would have missed, thanks to Ecargmura, including Dog Signal. I hope they get more views. I’m appreciating watching along with episodic reviews more- “What did they notice that I missed?” adds a lot.
There’s been more than one time — a lot more, actually! — where a reviewer saw something that I missed. That really helps enrich the viewing experience for me!
Thanks for the feature!
I do think that it is rarer to find episode reviews for seasonal shows these days, but it’s mainly about people find it tedious to keep up with. Fortunately, I’m fine with it since I’ve been doing it since I started my blog back in 2016, but it had been an up and down cycle. I think that my perseverance for episode reviews stems from my being a writer and also that I write in journals often. I think of my blog an online journal for me to think my thoughts out for what I watch or experience.
You’re welcome!
It’s cool you see your blog as an online journal!
I don’t know if you have a similar experience, but I find that sometimes, going through the mental processes to write a post helps me understand what I’m really thinking. There’ve been times when I actually surprised myself! It’s like, “Oh, that’s what I thought? Huh.”
Thanks so much for the shoutout! It really means a lot that you took the time to mention my essay. Appreciate the kind words!
You’re welcome! I appreciate a well-researched post that’s also fun to read!
