Check Out – Medalist
Sports anime can hit you in a very personal way. How does someone motivate themselves? How do they overcome their limitations, especially if they’re in a competitive sport where their rivals are a constant reminder of those limitations? These questions get to our very concept of self. Based on FlareKnight’s review in Anime Evo, Medalist is one of those sports series that knows its missions and executes it well. There are particular techniques it uses, and guess what? I’m not going to tell you here! You’ll need to go read FlareKnight’s post to find out what they are. But you’ll be glad you did!

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 3 Episode 9 Review
Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 3 is back! About time, too. They left us on quite a cliffhanger. Not only that, but there were about a half dozen open plot threads waving about. Based on this post by DoubleSama on the site DoubleSama, it sounds like Re:ZERO hit the ground running. At a dead sprint, apparently! You’ve probably seen the memes already flooding the world of Priscilla Barielle’s intro. The scene seemed to impress the heck out of Liliana. Me, too. As far as I’m concerned? Emilia is a dear, but good heavens! Can Priscilla carry a scene or what? There’s some other stuff, too, as DoubleSama discusses, so please do head over and check out his post!

A Subverted Cinderella Tale – My Happy Marriage Review
When you hear the word “diversity,” what do you think? Do you feel a wave of revulsion over something you’d call “woke?” Do you feel an outpouring of warmth and support for a social position? While I think it’s obvious where my sympathies lie, I’m trying to discipline myself to stay out of the never-ending rhetorical battles and stick to basics. I figure, why try to get fancy when understanding the basic facts is all I really need?
So to me, “diversity” means to be alive to a variety of different perspectives. After all, if we’re honest (which is, admittedly, not very often because it’s hard), we can get stuck in a mental rut. We get blinded by assumptions, or we miss details. The consequences can be as minor as missing a nuance in a work of fiction. Or it can mean the death of millions and the destruction of a country.
Can you tell I’ve been studying Goering in preparation for my next trilogy?
I like vacationing in the anime blogsphere Friday nights. I get to read works from a variety of perspectives. The idea of perspective was front and center as I read In Asian Spaces’s on the site In Asian Spaces. She reviewed My Happy Marriage. That review made me think about that series in a very different way — unobtrusively and with good humor! And now, having read that post, I have a better understanding of that series. I wouldn’t have that if I didn’t value diversity. We need to experience each other’s perspectives to maintain a healthy mental balance. So go do the healthy thing and read this post!

Twenty Perfect Minutes: BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!! Episode 13 – The Only One I Can Trust Is Myself
Have you ever watched an episode or two of a series and decided it wasn’t for you? Then at some later day, you revisit it, and it turns out to be a series that’s deeply moving? I hate when that happens. It’s like I tricked myself into missing out. It turns out that the yuri sorcerer, Dark Oomfie of Power had that experience with BanG Dream! It’s MyGO!!!!!, as evidenced in this post on The Magic Planet. Fortunately, the yuri sorcerer, Dark Oomfie of Power caught the mistake, and we get the benefit of seeing why the series was so engrossing. Go see if the post sparks your interest!

Anime Review – Made in Abyss S2: The Golden City Of The Scorching Sun Collection
As a writer, deciding how honest you want to be — and how honest you can stand being — is tough. It doesn’t get a lot of press beyond an occasion exhortation from writers like (the now deceased) Harlan Ellison for writers to dump their guts on the page. It’s hard, for a variety of reasons. In my case, after I researched Hermann Göring for my new trilogy Wayland’s Forge, I realized I couldn’t just hate the guy. That’s shameful on one level. It’s human on another. More importantly, it’s the heart of that place in my soul where the trilogy needs to come from.
Ah. That’s what the need for courage feels like.
I think Akihito Tsukushi, the writer responsible for Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun, knew that equation intimately — and the “dump their guts on the page” advice won. Decisively. As I read this post from Man in Black on the site MIB’s Instant Headache, I found myself nodding, grimly, in agreement every few sentences. Man in Black told it like it is regarding this series. What was his verdict? Well, you know how to find out!

It appears my previous research on names wasn’t enough given how Subaru was able to draw conclusions about Regulus’s Authority in this latest episode. I’ll be doing further research tonight and tomorrow night for my write-up.

I’m sorry if I’m not gushing over the content more as I really do have lots of fun watching this series, but I have a really analytical mind and talking about what details are important and how they may come together is more up my alley.
Absolutely no need to apologize for the approach you’re taking! It’s your approach, so it’s worthwhile. All approaches have their appeal, and I genuinely enjoying reading detailed analysis. You catch a lot that I miss, for one thing!
TCrow, here is my write-up on Episode 59 of Re:Zero:
https://thoroughwatch.org/?p=68
I included every single notable detail I could possibly think of from the episode whether it be a callback to a previous episode or something that could be important in the future.
Thanks for the link!
I still haven’t had time to watch the episode, and it’s driving me crazy!
Hopefully, you get the time to catch up on watching Re:Zero soon especially since the next episode is out tomorrow.
I read the In Asian Spaces post you recommended, and You’re right. It was very interesting! I haven’t watch My Happy Marriage yet, and I honestly didn’t think it was something I would like, but the blogger makes a really good case of how a story can start out very predictable and yet change things around to have a very unpredictable conclusion. It was a very good read!
Sounds a lot like my reaction! I had no intention of watching that show. Now? It’s on the backlog!
I really enjoy seeing the world from different perspectives. I can’t imagine hunkering down in my own, solitary world and expecting that to reflect reality.

I will be getting my write-ups for Re:Zero Episode 59, and the Apothecary Diaries 2, 3, 4, and 5 later today.
Thanks for the link!
I’m glad you enjoyed my diverse perspective on My Happy Marriage! Thanks for featuring me 😊
You’re welcome! I very much enjoyed reading your post.
