Every week, I visit almost 230 anime sites looking for posts that celebrate amazing moments in anime or otherwise blow me away with their wit and charm. These are my five favorite posts for the week. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!
You can see a list of the sites I check here: Massive List of Sites!
Previews for 2025 Spring Season
I feel like I should say something other than “it’s hard to believe it’s time for another anime season,” but. well, you know, it really is hard to believe it’s time for another anime season. You’ve heard “the older you get, the faster time goes by?” I’m here to tell you it’s true.
Here are the two sites I who presented their 2025 spring seasonal preview this week:
- Anime Evo: FlareKnight’s 2025 Spring Anime Preview
- The Wonder of Anime: Crunchyroll’s Spring 2025 Anime Season Calendar

Orb: On the Movements of the Earth Episode 25 Review
I’ve been trying to avoid heavy topics this week. Not because they’re unimportant. But because they’re too important. So important that I’m weaving them into the plot of the trilogy I’m writing. And frankly, it’s exhausting, so I’m trying to keep my leisure time activities rather light. However, 7mononoke, on the site Anime Rants, had to go and write another insightful, thought-provoking review of Orb. Those of us who have learned from history know something with stark clarity, and i’s this: no theology should be allowed anywhere near the levers of power. Ever. It has never worked. It cannot work. And I say that as an Aristotelian Thomist with a degree in theology. The review is more than an acknowledgement of that fact, of course. It’s a lot of fun to read! Go see what I mean!

How to Build a Series: 86
I’m going to watch 86: Eighty Six sometime. It’s not just on my backlog — it’s been cleared for viewing, with one caveat: we need to get out from under the current powers in the USA who want to start a war of aggression with two of our neighbors and an utterly peaceful country in the Atlantic. The anime series is just too close to reality for me to watch right now. But that didn’t stop me from reading this post by The Overage Otaku on the site Confessions of an Overage Otaku. I’ve said before how often I learn stuff from these posts. This week, The Overage Otaku not only dropped some cool insights about story craftsmanship — he dropped those insights in a novel way! The Overage Otaku changed up the format a bit, and it was a ton of fun to read. Go read it for yourself!

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 3 Episode 15 Review
When I grow up (should such a thing even be possible anymore), I want to craft worlds as gripping as the one in Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 3. It’s not just that the world provides an entertaining backdrop for the story. It’s that it is so layered, so nuanced, that it drives the plot and fascinating discussions like the one in DoubleSama’s review on the site DoubleSama. One of the things that DoubleSama does particularly well is analyze the episode and try to predict where things are heading — and this story’s well-crafted world provides fertile ground for speculation. See if you agree with DoubleSama’s conclusions!

Food Wars!: Coming Back for Seconds
The first season of Food Wars! grabbed my attention and wouldn’t let go. There’s just something about the regular-guy-goes-up-against-snooty-elites that appeals to me. My interest waned as we got into the second season, but the first season gave me some memorable moments! I was glad to see that Hanime on Anime, on the site Hanime on Anime, reviewed the series. Her reviews have some great insights, especially with regard to character, that I enjoy reading. The review helped me remember some of my favorite episodes from that series. See if it does the same thing for you!

10 Strong Female Leaders in Anime
I think I’ve said before how much I love strong female characters. I look forward each new season to discovering characters like Julis Alexia von Riessfeld, Matsu, or Colette Loire. So when I saw the title for this post by YumDeku on the site MyAnimeGo, it got my hopes up. Not only did YumDeku list strong female character — he focused on strong female characters in leadership positions! That’s a cool twist I haven’t seen before. After reading it, I have to say — I can wholeheartedly endorse the whole list! Though the character in position seven looks a little bit out of place… See if YumDeku listed your favorite strong female leaders!

TCrow, here is a link to my write-up on Re:Zero Episode 66. I’ve listed all the things I believe are relevant to show why Al likely isn’t Subaru while still having a connection to him.
https://thoroughwatch.org/?p=125
Thanks!
TCrow, something I also forgot to mention in my write-up is that Al can specifically mention that he has been dying, which Subaru is not permitted to do by Satella. This suggests that Al simply has a different power than Subaru and that it’s not a matter of Al being able to control his power better.
Granted, this is not definitive proof that he can’t be Subaru since we don’t know all the rules of Re:Zero’s world. We don’t know whether an Authority can change over time, and if it can, perhaps Al’s Authority used to be identical to Subaru’s before it became whatever it is now. I’ll add this to my write-up now.
I’m making a correction now as I just remembered that Subaru asked Beatrice if she was the one who killed him in Season 1. It’s that Subaru can’t intend to pass off knowledge about Return by Death others while Al was openly talking about dying repeatedly to Capella, who seemed to know he had been dying, which is something Subaru isn’t permitted to do.
I’m very interested in seeing where Re:ZERO goes with that detail.
TCrow, if you’re wondering why I didn’t talk more about Al in my write-up for Re:Zero Episode 65, it’s ’cause I already mentioned based on Priscilla word’s in Episode 61 that whatever Al’s power is, you can physically see him not being allowed to die as was hinted in Episode 60, so I felt it’d be redundant to mention it again as there is no way to easily guess what Al can and cannot do since there are so many different ways a power like this can manifest.
Noted! Al’s a character I still don’t know how to think about!

Again, KakoeiSbi provides an English translation in the comments section.
I notice a lot of Petra in these shorts, so I’m assuming her role in the story will be more prominent going forward.
Thanks!
Ooo, I need to read that post from Over Aged Otaku! That sounds really good. Thanks for the heads up.
Very glad the list helped you connect with that post!
Huh, I must have missed when you asked. Still, nice gathering of quality mecha anime! 🙂
I’d say my own answer is established well enough here: https://merlinsmusings.com/2024/06/06/my-top-ten-favorite-mech-anime/
Sorry, that was meant for an entirely different blog. (multiple tabs open, ya know!) my mistake!
Glad you said something! I was like, “What’d I say?” I have a tendency to have too many tabs open, too!
