Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead Episode 12 Review

Have you finished watching Zom 100? I haven’t. I’d been reviewing it, too, but as of this writing, I’d only gotten to episode 9. I’ve often wondered if I should try harder to finish watching it. Did the later episodes carry the earlier spirit forward? What happened to my favorite characters (e.g., Shizuka Mikazuki)? Fortunately, I can answer at least one of those questions, and many more, by reading this post by 7mononoke on the site Anime Rants. I like seeing episodes through 7mononoke’s keen eye for character. If you have or haven’t seen the episode, I think you’ll get a kick out of this review! Go check it out!

Kowloon Generic Romance Episode 8 Review – They Shouldn’t Exist, Yet They Do

Kowloon Generic Romance sure seems to be on a roll, doesn’t it? It’s delivery is giving my cynical self pause. Which is good. There’s a lot going on that feeds my cynical self, and I really don’t like that guy. Anyway, ecargmura did something more than merely confirm the show’s on a roll in this post from ARUM JOURNAL. She brought up how a show of this quality affects us. It’s one of those things that is only obvious after someone points it out! Isn’t that the definition of genius? Whether it is or not, go see ecargmura’s awesomely cool observation about how this show affected her — and the rest of us, too!

Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective Episode 8 – “The Night When the Angels Danced [Part 1]”

I’ve seen Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective described as an anime version of House. For me, that raises all kinds of expectations — the kind that feel really annoying if they’re not met. So, I’ve been waiting until I can binge the show. I’ve also been looking for insightful review to gauge whether the show’s for me. And guess what? I found such a review this week in Sara Aeschliman’s post on Lesley’s Anime and Manga Corner. Seems that the show might not crash my expectations after all. That’s a relief! Are you watching the show? Then go see if Sara Aeschliman talks about what you enjoyed in the episode!

MIB’s Instant Headache

Anime Review – Riding Bean

I love it when I come across a review of a show that I never heard of. Even better, I love finding a review of a show that sounds like it’d be a blast to watch. This week, Man In Black, on the site MIB’s Instant Headache, presented such a show: Riding Bean. It sounds like a lot of the live-action movies I watched in the 1980s. Yes, I watching movies back then — graduated college in that timeframe, in fact! Talk about an unwelcome reminder of how young I’m not… But this review was anything but unwelcome. It was so entertaining that my massive backlist has grown by one more title. Which is, in the final analysis, a good thing. Go see if you have a similar reaction!

The Apothecary Diaries, episode 43

How entertaining is The Apothecary Diaries Season 2? Judging by Theron’s post on USA Anime, the answer is “very.” But the fun isn’t in the answer, it’s in the wonderfully interesting details Theron uses to come up with the answer. The more I read about this show, the more I want to watch it for its story craftsmanship. But even if you just want to be entertained, it seems the show has something to offer. Want proof? Then you need only click on the link to read Theron’s review to see for yourself!

  1. TCrow, here’s my write-up on Kowloon Generic Romance Episode 9:

    https://thoroughwatch.org/?p=157

I think but am not certain that this episode may have lowkey introduced the concept of karma in the story although it’s possible I jumped the gun with that interpretation.

  2. Thanks again for the inclusion and shout out! 🙂

FYI – I’d never heard of Running Bean either until I got the check disc! 😉

    1. You’re welcome! And I’m curious — what’s a check disc? Google let me down when I searched for it. Is it a pre-release of an upcoming collection? Something like that?

      1. Yes, a check disc or screener is a pre-release copy of a title sent to reviewers by PR companies or the distributor itself – no package or anything, just a simple printed disc with the title on it; A screener might also be an online stream of a film usually password protected and with an annoying watermark so it can’t be shared.

I used to get loads of anime discs every month until Crunchyroll bought everyone out and expected us to take out a subscription to view their titles (which as freelancer I couldn’t afford to do). That’s why my anime output has reduced over the past few years. Only MVM still oblige me or I buy a title myself.

  3. Thanks for the mention! I’m glad that people are enjoying Kowloon Generic Romance, whether they discovered it from this post or even casually. It’s such a head turner and a hidden gem of this season!

    1. Kowloon Generic Romance is seriously good SF. It also has that retro OVA feel for me (think stuff like Key the Metal Idol). Love it.

Please let me know what you think!
