My Dress-Up Darling โ 13
There are a lot of reasons to be glad that My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 is underway. Do you know which reason jumped out at me while I watched this episode? We got to see the impact that cruelty can have on Wakana Gojou’s life. Then we got to see the impact that an act of casual kindness could have. No labels; no political fights. Just a character, in a situation we could all relate to, in a moment where he could feel at peace. I need examples of that in my life right now.
There’re a lot more reasons to like this episode. Want to know what those reasons are? Well, I have the perfect post for you! FlareKnight’s post on Anime Evo celebrates this opening episode of the second season. FlareKnight lays out what made his episode such a perfect example of the series. Go see if he mentions what you liked about the episode!

Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master Anime Review
When I saw Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master air last year, I was intrigued. First, the title mentions a Raven, and seeing how they’re closely related to Crows, I feel a kinship. Second, it gives a real period piece vibe, and I find that I often enjoy shows like that. Now that I’ve read 7mononoke’s review on Anime Rants, I’ve had to wrestle with a powerful realization: if I don’t want my backlog to grow, I cannot read any of 7mononoke’s reviews. She does too good a job celebrating the why the show’ is so much fun to read! I’ll keep reading her reviews, of course. It’d be silly not to! And that might apply to you, too — go read it to find out!

Secrets Of The Silent Witch Episode 1 Review โ When Agoraphobia Is Both Your Friend And Enemy
Anime has helped me first become aware of, then explore, an evolving idea of what the concept of witch represents. I don’t want to say that, based on my research, I’ve learned that “the patriarchy” has twisted the idea of witches. That’s be too political! Instead, I’ll stay that I’ve learned a typically male-dominated, centralized method of projecting political power has used propaganda to paint a very negative and very false idea of witches. Okay, yeah, those two statements are factually identical, but isn’t the second one a little less knee-jerky? I mean, come on — avoiding tribal lingo de-escalates every rhetorical clash!
Yeah. It’s been that kind of week. And it ain’t over yet!
I still might start watching Secrets of the Silent Witch this season. I hope that it’ll show a side of witches that more aligns with their historical origins. It’s hard to know for sure until I watch it. But I don’t need to despair as long as I can read posts like ecargmura’s review on ARUM JOURNAL of episode 1. Regardless of the series’ position on historical witches, ecargmura paints a picture of an enjoyable show. Check out this post to see why!

Celebrating Twenty Years of Ah! My Goddess: A Review and Reflection, Plus Remarks on The Dynamics Between Trouble and Happiness
I got practically giddy when I read that infinitezenith had reviewed Ah! My Goddess on the site The Infinite Zenith. It’s been way too long since I watched it (and rewatched it!), and I knew that infinitezenith and his detail-oriented approach would help me remember the show in all of its awesome glory. And I was not disappointed! Of course, the post talks a lot about the standout character Belldandy. But I have a very strict test for a review of this show: the review must speak well of Urd. And guess what? This post passes with flying colors! Go take a trip down memory lane about an delightful show!

Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX โ By Nerds For Nerds
You would think that, given the kind of science fiction novels I write, I’d adore the entire Gundam series. They have political intrigue. They have interesting characters. They have mech action. Okay, my stuff doesn’t have mech action. But I still enjoy it! However, I’ve struggled to get into the series. That might change after I read Scott’s review on Mechanical Anime Reviews of Mobile Suit Gundam: GQuuuuuuX. No one knows mech anime better than Scott, and that knowledge really brightens this review. Reading opinions if fun. Reading well-informed opinions that draw conclusions based on that experience is enlightening! And I can use more enlightenment in my life. Go see what I mean!

I hate to increase the backlog pressure, but… Yatagarasu was a top-10-of-the-year show… in a very good year (that had Frieren, Apothecary Diaries, Dungeon Meshi, Sengoku Youko, Undead Unluck, Dangers in My Heart 2… a very good year). For what it’s worth, the show is two-cour, with two pretty independent arcs, both with a vastly different feel.
I like feedback from folks whose opinions I trust! It helps me prioritize my backlog. So thanks!
I would go further than that and say that Yatagarasu was a Top 5 show of 2024 that was very intelligently written with good use of foreshadowing. If I had started a blog by then, I would definitely have written about it as it was right down my alley and my kind of show.
