Every week, I visit almost 230 anime sites looking for posts that celebrate amazing moments in anime or otherwise blow me away with their wit and charm. These are my five favorite posts for the week. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Secrets of the Silent Witch – 03-04
I keep joking about how little time I have to watch anime, but I have to admit: it’s no joke. My full time job deserves my complete attention, so I can’t slack off and even watch something in the background. I’ve also been blessed with a family that I actively support. If you follow my author site, you know that week to week, I have a lot going on. And oh, yeah! I also write three new posts here every week. So when I say that I wish I had more time to watch shows like Secrets of the Silent Witch, I don’t mean I wish I had more leisure time. I mean I wish I had some leisure time.
Though I will admit to playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 Heart of Chernobyl for a couple of hours last week.
That’s a long way of saying that Secrets of the Silent Witch was on my short list of shows I wanted to watch this season. But I just didn’t have the time. Fortunately, I have reviews like this one from FlareKnight on the site Anime Evo to help me know that the show is indeed worth watching. How’s that help, if I don’t have time to watch it? It lets know that this show belongs on my backlog. And it keeps me from accidentally watching something like Dies Irae. Ever again. Once was way more than enough!

The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity Episode 4 Review – Study Date
The more I read about The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, the more it sounds like it’s a show that will end up on my backlist, too. Apart from my joking about the character model for Subaru Hoshina (though it is, in fact, a quality work), the show sounds like it offers powerful drama and engaging character interactions. I can draw this conclusion without watching the show because of ecargmura’s reviews on the site ARUM JOURNAL. I mean it as a compliment when I say that I have not yet had a substantive disagreement with any of point that ecargmura’s made in her reviews. At least, I hope she takes that as a compliment! Go see what I mean!

Is Oshi no Ko an Anime Worth Watching?
By now, we’ve established that I rely on trusted anime reviewers to help me pick shows that I couldn’t watch when they aired. There’re obvious dangers with such an approach, and [Oshi no Ko] illustrates one of them: its opening episode so captured the anime community’s imagination that the praise snow-balled, and it became tough to know what opinions were authentic and which were reflections of the Zeitgeist. When I saw this review by In Asian Spaces on the site In Asian Spaces, I hoped I’d get a review made more clear by the passage of time — and that’s exactly what I got! Well, I got a bit more than that, too. So, if you ever wondered if this show was worth the hype, this is the review for you!

Anime Series Review: The Saint’s Magic Power Is Omnipotent (2021)
I’ve almost watched The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent several times, though I’ve not managed it yet. Though, I did award Sei Takanashi, the main character, with a Caw Out Award for Most Reasonable Reaction of the Week. It was Cassandra D.’s turn, in this post from Moonlit Media Room, to remind me of a show that’s languishing on my backlog. I particularly like how Cassandra D. organized the review — the sections made it easy to skim if I was in a hurry. Of course, I didn’t skim this one; it was too interesting! But if I was in more of a hurry, at least I had the option! Go see if Cassandra D.’s post makes you want to watch the show — either for the first time or again!

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Season 1: Ethnic Conflict in a Space Elevator
I mentioned earlier that reading reviews helps me reduce the risk of watching a terrible show that just looks good. I was only partly kidding. I really don’t have time to watch shows that are poorly constructed or that employ tropes or concepts that undermine humanity. That’s really a fancy way of saying I don’t want to watch anything that’s going to piss me off. I’ll read social media if I want that experience.
I take seriously the opinions of all the bloggers I celebrate here. Dewbond, on his site Shallow Dives in Anime, builds on it by not only offering reviews that reflect his thoughts at a specific point in time. He also offers reviews that compare and contrast his own tastes across multiple periods of his life. How cool is that? This week, he gave Mobile Suit Gundam 00 that treatment. So, how did younger Dewbond’s views of this series compare to the more world-wise Dewbond’s perspective? There’s one way to find out!
