Alma-chan Wants to Be a Family! – 01 [First Look]

The first few weeks of a new anime season are a lot of fun. Chaotic, yes. But fun. We get to see a lot of new shows through the eyes of anime bloggers. It’s one of my favorite parts of the season because of that. For Fall 2025, FlareKnight, on the site Anime Evo, took a chance on one of those new series, called Alma-chan Wants to Be a Family!. After reading his post, I’m intrigued. Have you heard of it? Did you watch it? If you did, I’ll be you know exactly what he liked most about it! Go see if I’m right!

Confessions of an Overage Otaku

Oh, So Trope-ical: Enemies to Lovers

Did you know I had planned to be a high school teacher, back in the day? I am one college course of my secondary teaching certification. Then I looked at the salary range for teachers, compared that to what I’d need to start a family, and decided to go into computer programming. But I’ve always admired people who could teach, and teach well. It’s not just a talent. It’s a vocation.

Teaching is hard. Conveying an idea to someone sounds easy, but when you factor in the need to make it entertaining, or at least absorbing, and you can see why it’s difficult. But I’ll tell you who makes it look easy: The Overage Otaku on the site Confessions of an Overage Otaku. I’ve been writing for decades, and I still learn something almost every time I read one of his posts. But more than that, I’m not even aware I’m learning. I’m just enjoying the post! This week is no exception. Go see what I mean!

Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray Part 2 Episode 1 Review

One of my favorite series the season before last was Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray. I’ve been looking forward to Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray Part 2 since the minute the previous season ended. I could take some time to explain why I liked the series, but that would take away the focus I want to put on posts like this one by DoubleSama on the site DoubleSama. If I had to pick two things that DoubleSama excels at, they’d be dissecting character and disassembling plot. The first episode of part 2 didn’t give him a lot of material to work with, but he did a fascinating job anyway! Go see if you agree!

The Magic Planet

Let’s Watch UMAMUSUME: CINDERELLA GRAY – Episode 14 – “Another Peak to Climb”

Speaking of Cinderella Gray, I came across another review of the first episode of the season, this one from miss yuri sorcereur, Dark Horse on the site The Magic Planet. I closely followed miss yuri sorcereur, Dark Horse’s reviews of the first part, and judging from this post, I’ll be doing the same thing for part 2! miss yuri sorcereur, Dark Horse does a great job of describing what made the episode, and the series in general, so compelling. If you have any interest in the series at all, I think you’ll get a lot out of this post. And if you don’t, who knows? Reading it might change your mind!

Seven Years of Shallow Dives in Anime: Kill la Kill

I keep threatening to do a throw-back review of Kill la Kill. That sounds overly dramatic, doesn’t it? Well, speaking as the guy who has been sticking to relatively simple series like Shuffle! for my throw-back reviews, it is a threat. Kill la Kill is not Shuffle!. In fact, Kill la Kill is not anything but Kill la Kill. That also sounds overly dramatic, but for evidence, I’d like to point to this post by Dewbond on the site Shallow Dives in Anime. Dewbond always tells it like it is, and that’s a great match for Kill la Kill’s own style. What did he think about it? Yeah, no, I’m not trying to summarize that! You know what you have to do to find out!

  1. Of course, maybe all the imagery of Disney heroines and the mirror could mean Terenezza is actually from Earth, which would make sense given she came with a gun in Episode 3, but I lean toward her being there to stir up trouble to make Scarlet the heroine of the story due to her favouring Scarlet.

    1. I noticed when we saw her at the end of episode 3, there was no sign of Scarlet’s punch. Given the state of her face at the end of the first episode, I’d expect at least some bruising.

But in fairness, I don’t know how much time passed between episodes 1 and 3.

      1. I think between episodes 1-3 about 8 days had passed since Scarlet was unconscious for 3 days, and the beastkin said that the next slave auction would happen in a week after Scarlet woke up with Episode 3 indicating that the slave auction happens in 2 days, making it 8 total days between Terenezza being punched and the end of Episode 3.

But even if Terenezza were acting to help Scarlet be the protagonist, I don’t think this would be revealed until close to the end of the series, leading fans of the series to perhaps trash the ending if what I have proposed does end up happening ’cause they’ll have perceived that there wasn’t enough prior evidence of that. Sometimes, anime adaptations can help one see where the story is headed through the OP/ED or even through the content itself subtly, but a lot of fans of the source material of what they watch claim any anime-original content to be non-canon, so doing that kind of speaks to a level of.ego that can ruin their experience.

  2. TCrow, I just did further research on the imagery in May I Ask For One Final Thing?’s ED, and there was a notable section with Terenezza transforming the stars in her head to pink feathers and sending them out with all her strength, and an online search suggests that pink feathers can indicate that an angel or spirit guide is nearby, offering support and guidance on one’s spiritual journey. Finding a pink feather can also be a sign of being on the right path, potentially related to a new phase in life or a romantic connection. So if I’m right, Terenezza could be an angel, a spirit guide or one of the gods herself who wants to spread love in the world, or at least between Scarlet and Julius.

    1. So you’re thinking that maybe Terenezza intentionally broke up Scarlet and Kyle so she could be with Julius?

That could be very interesting. Right now, just based on what I’ve seen in the story, Terenezza is not a protagonist. I’d love to see them give me a twist based on her role.

      1. Already made a blog post about it, but in a nutshell, it reminds me a lot of Spy x Family, but with a modern Japanese setting, an AI-powered android, and two socially awkward inventors. I enjoyed it!

        1. Thanks for letting me know! I would have seen it when I visit the anime sites Friday night, but this way, I got to read it earlier than I would have. I enjoyed reading your take on it!

  3. Glad you’ve recovered, TCrow. Did the hospital staff ever find out what was the problem?

Here’s my next theory on Re:Zero:

    https://thoroughwatch.org/?p=190

Also, I don’t know if you’ve seen episode 3 of May I Ask For One Final Thing?, TCrow, but I have a theory based mostly on OP and ED analysis along with a certain reveal in Episode 3.

I found it very particular that in May I Ask For One Final Thing?, Terenezza was shown with a crown and a huge staff close to the end of OP given Scarlet revealed that gods exist in this series in Episode 1. Also of note is that in the ED, we see Terenezza cosplaying as multiple Disney princesses before she ends up being in the mirror, which I presume is the mirror on the wall in Snow White, which suggests that she secretly drives the events in this show with her machinations. As such, my intuition tells me that Terenezza might be one of the gods, or goddesses if you want to be gender appropriate, of the world, doing whatever she’s doing for some yet-to-be-disclosed reason.

This would explain how Terenezza in Episode 3 was able to get an item made by Goddess Palmia, and it’s because she is directly intervening in the world of mortals and can readily get gifts from other gods and goddesses. At the end of the series, we might just see how deeply involved in the story she actually is.

    1. Thanks! The tests ruled out the life-threatening causes. Following the doctor’s advice took care of the root cause.

Thanks for the link to your latest Re:ZERO theory!

I’ve seen episode 3, and I noticed Terenezza dressing up/cosplaying in the ED. It’ll be interesting to see if your theory is right. If she is a goddess, she doesn’t have prescience — she didn’t see Scarlet’s punch coming in the first episode!

I hope the situation’s as complex as you suggest. Without that, I’ll still enjoy the show, because Scarlet’s so much fun and Julius seems like a good foil for her. On the other hand, if they add that kidn of complexity, it could make this something special.

      1. TCrow, I realized my latest Re:Zero theory required for one to remember what I had previously posted, so I’m updating it now for you in this reply to you to be fully comprehensive.

Emilia said in Episode 48, “Who is this? This should be Echidna’s grave…” ’cause she didn’t recognize the corpse, which was that of an older woman compared to the Echidna seen in the Sanctuary trials. Roswaal and Beatrice, however, recognized the corpse as their teacher/mother, showing that the Echidna in the Sanctuary trials and tea parties was not the same as the one Roswaal and Beatrice knew, showing that Echidna had previously cut off a piece of her soul when she was younger, which would explain the presence of the younger Echidna in the tea parties. Episode 50 confirmed this with a small animation of the older Echidna Roswaal and Beatrice knew whose face was closer to that of the corpse.

That is why I was remarking about Roswaal’s teacher in my theory ’cause I believe the Echidna from the Sanctuary trials and tea parties was a different Echidna from Roswaal’s teacher. I hope this clarified any confusion. Sometimes, what makes sense to me doesn’t make sense to others since I assume they 100% know what I know.

Please let me know what you think!
