All Hail the Queen of Crashouts, Scarlet!
There are two series this season that I look forward to even more than SPY x FAMILY, and those are Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray Part 2 and May I Ask for One Final Thing?. That’s saying a lot, given how much I like SPY x FAMILY. In the case of the latter series, Roderick J “Jay” Friz, on the site D&A Anime Blog, has demonstrated impeccable taste in all aspects of the show, particularly in how he describes Scarlet El Vandimion. But a single character can’t (generally speaking) carry a show, and Roderick J “Jay” Friz also talks about the mysteries that help propel the narrative forward. Go see if he talks about the aspects of the show that you enjoyed!

The Apothecary Diaries: Medicine Woman
This week, I got a blast from the past — a reference to a series I wasn’t sure anyone else remembered! In the title to this post, Hanime on Anime, on the site Hanime on Anime, referred to that show. Did you catch the reference? I’d never even thought of it in the context of The Apothecary Diaries. But Hanime on Anime makes a compelling case! She also describes why this series in particular was so engrossing. I can’t judge for sure (with great embarrassment, I have to admit I haven’t see it — yet), but she has me convinced! Enough so that I’m looking for ways to get this show higher on my backlist. Go see what you think!

My Dress-Up Darling Season Two: A Whole-series Review and Another Full Recommendation
My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 is one of those series that I flat out cherish. Its subject matter, its characters, even its situations resonated with me. So, here’s a secret tip: if you want a post to end up in here in 5 Favorite Anime Blog Posts, picking this series will boost your odds! I got really excited this week when I saw that infinitezenith reviewed the series on The Infinite Zenith because infinitezenith gives series an in-depth treatment. This post did not disappoint. Not at all! If you liked this series even a little, I think you’ll really enjoy this post!

Clevatess is a Bloody Good Story
I would say that I haven’t seen Clevatess yet, and it’d be true. But it’s a little more complicated than that. I actually watched and enjoyed the first episode. However, the show was too dark for where my head was, so I decided not to watch it yet. I will at some point, and posts like this one by Merlin on the site Merlin’s Musings convince me even more that the series is worth watching. Alicia Glenfall’s story alone would make it worth while, but she wasn’t even close to being alone. It sounds like my impression of the level of violence was spot on, too. So, once our world stops looking like something out of Mirror, Mirror (and it absolutely will), I’ll give the series another shot. In the meantime, we have reviews like this one to share!

MIB’s Instant Headache
Anime Review – The Executioner And Her Way of Life
The Executioner and Her Way of Life is Yet Another Show I Haven’t Watched (YASIHW — looks like it should be something out of some ancient texts or something). It’s common for me to celebrate posts that remind me of what I haven’t watched, and ManInBlack’s post on MIB’s Instant Headache starts there. ManInBlack writes robust, insightful reviews, and this one is no exception. So, that means it made me want to move this series higher up my backlist. But it’s not just that. The way he described it made it clear this character-driven show would simply be fun to watch! So, while I tinker with my backlist, head on over to see what ManInBlack says about this series!

TCrow, regarding May I Ask For One Final Thing? Episode 7, I see a lot of online discussion from people believing that Dios is a red herring and the knight captain is the traitor based on their expectations from genre tropes, but I believe these people are likely tricking themselves rather following what the story is telling.
I believe Dios is being coerced into helping the Palmianism group since earlier in the episode, he showed genuine concern for Saint Diana when she fell, so I don’t think he has malicious intentions. It’s clear that his immediate reaching for the food with the note in the other guy’s hand meant that he is getting intel and instructions on what he should be doing, but he may be being coerced. He did indicate he was a half-elf, so maybe his mother or father is being held hostage, forcing him to work for the Palmianism group.
Perhaps the knight captain is the traitor like people have been speculating, but there has literally been not even been a hint of a trace of that, and the pilgrimage happens every year with the knight captain having been a long-time employee, so if the Palmianism group was going to act against Saint Diana and the knight captain was with them all along, there should have been action taken against Saint Diana long ago. Dios, on the other hand, we know is a new recruit who ended up being top knight, and there’s a better chance he infiltrated the group to help the Palmianism group.
Either they’re tricking themselves or they’re passing off spoilers as speculation.
I guess alternatively there has to be some reason why Saint Diana lost her powers. If it wasn’t due to people losing faith in Dianism, maybe there was sabotage from the mole, and that would allow someone like the knight captain to be the culprit.
My guess was some kind of magical interference/sabotage — either a person near her or some artifact.
Dios being coerced makes sense. Otherwise, I don’t see what his motivation would be. Plus, good catch with his concern for Saint Diana.
Oh yes, if you’ve seen the first episode, you know precisely how bloody Clevatess is. 😉
Oh, a Doctor Quinn reference! That is, indeed, a blast from the past, though a bit less distant in my case as I’ve been delving into the older shows a little of late, but I grew up watching that show, alongside the likes of Walker: Texas Ranger, Martial Law, Early Edition, etc. Good times. 🙂
I’m amazed at how well some of those older shows hold together. I happened to watch one of the Columbo TV movies the other day, and I really enjoyed it!
