FlareKnight’s Top Ten Anime Series of 2025
There were several top ten (or whatever!) lists this week. That makes sense, since last year just wrapped up. FlareKnight’s list, published on Anime Evo, caught my attention for several reasons. First, he included anime like his positions eight and three, which were two of my favorites from the season. But the coup de grâce was number seven. Not only its inclusion, but the reason he included it. Just cool stuff! Head on over and see if you agree!

Spy × Family Season Three: Whole-Series Review and Reflection
I thoroughly enjoyed SPY x FAMILY season three. You probably got that impression if you read my reviews! Now, in my reviews, I try to keep my descriptions of my favorite quote and moment brief. That’s kinda part of my current review format. But there are times I long for something more substantial. So it was with great anticipation that I saw this post by infinitezenith on the site The Infinite Zenith. infinitezenith’s reviews offer unparalleled depth and focus, and this review is a perfect example. He covered everything I loved about the show and more. Go see what I mean!

Violet Evergarden: Revisiting a Great Anime
Did you know that writers often have a tell? You can often get a sense for what they really think of of a subject, regardless of what they explicitly say, by looking at their style — word choice, sentence cadence, overall sentiment, that sort of thing. With that in mind, go read this post by Chris Kincaid on the site Japan Powered. It’s about Violet Evergarden, and I’ll tell you what: Chris Kincaid really liked the series. He says as much, of course. But his prose borders at time on poetry. I don’t see that very often, but when I do, I pay attention. I think you’ll find it worthwhile, too!

Ranking Every 2025 Anime (That I Actually Finished) From Worst to Best
This is the second entry in the top-anime-from-the-previous-year category. This time, it’s by Horsey Recruiter on the site The Magic Planet. It caught my attention for the usual reasons, like the candid insights about the shows and the inclusion of my favorites (for example, numbers nine, six, and two). It also caught my attention because of the extreme shock I felt at what was number two — and not number one! Horsey Recruiter explained it well, and I get it. But I was still shocked! Go see what you think!

Anime Review – Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc
With the level of spectacle in a movie like Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, I think it’s easy for a reviewer to get caught up in the action and animation. Not that I could blame anyone for doing so. But it might dazzle so much that the reviewer misses the other more subtle details that are every bit as important to the story. That’s one of the reasons like MIB’s review on the site MIB’s Instant Headache: he caught those details. What’s more, he lucidly talked about why they were important. For example, the contrast between Reze and Makima is central to the plot — even more so than the fights — and he talked about! Go see if he talked about what you enjoyed in the movie!

Thank you as ever for the nice way to start the New Year!
Those are interesting top-of-the-year lists. There’s no way I could rank all 2025 shows; that’d be over 100 shows; maybe over 120…. And at the tail end they’d kind of blur together. But a top 10? Hm… let me try:
Apothecary Diaries 2
With You and the Rain
Sword of the Demon Hunter
Ninkoro
The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity
Silent Witch
Clevatess
Kowloon Generic Romance
My Happy Marriage 2
Hikaru ga Shinda Natsu
Well, that wasn’t easy. This was an excellent year, with fall being the weakest season by far, and still not being a weak season. I left off so many shows that would normally make a top 10… And many of them might creep in on a different-mood-day. Yeah, a great year for anime.
