Spring 2026 Previews
It’s almost time for the Spring 2026 anime series to debut. Here’re the previews I saw while reading the anime blogs this week!

Sousou no Frieren S2 โ 08
I’m still keeping up with Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2, which mean I saw episode 8 just after it came out. A lot had happened in the previous episode, and I had really looked forward to seeing Stark and Genau take on Revolte; I also wanted to see Methode, Fern, and Frieren take on their demon foes. But I also looked forward to reading what FlareKnight would write about the episode on Anime Evo! It was fun to re-experience both battles from his perspective. In Stark/Genau’s battle, he caught a few details, along with their implications, that I had missed. And I think his insights about Methode were spot on. Go see if you have a similar experience!

Hellโs Paradise Season 2 Episode 10 Review
I’ve enjoyed watching and reviewing Hell’s Paradise Season 2. I’ve read some mixed reviews of episode 10 (or 23, depending on whose numbering scheme you buy into), and I tried to discern the reasons for such a huge difference. Most of the negativity seemed to revolve one of the scenes I found most powerful, which revolved around Nurugai and Shion. It’s not that I wanted validation; I know what I saw and I know how I reacted to it. But I wanted to understand the difference. I knew that 7mononoke, on the site Anime Rants, is reviewing this season. So I was really curious to read her perspective, since I trust her insights character insights. And, in my not-humble-at-all-opinion, I think she nailed it. Go see if she talked about what you enjoyed in this episode!

The Power of Many: One Piece
In the books I write, I tend to have a lot of characters. Like, a lot of them. One of the challenges I have in presenting those characters isn’t remembering them myself. I have character sheets for that. No, I struggle to present them to readers in such a way that they’re memorable. It can be a real challenge, so when I came across this post by The Overage Otaku on the site Confessions of an Overage Otaku, I wondered if it would reveal any secrets I could use. Turns out I knew most of them, but here’s the cool thing about reading another perspective: the examples he used were new to me, and they helped some concepts click! If you create characters as a writer, or if you consume them as a viewer, I think you’ll enjoy seeing some of the tricks of the trade!

Scarlet
I only recently heard about Scarlet, but the more I hear about it, the more interesting it seemed. This week, I came across otakubrit’s review on the site Otaku Brit, and now it seems even more interesting! This review put the movie in context with Mamoru Hosoda, the director’s, other works. The man’s been busy! He’s only a little younger than me, too. It’s fun to watch how a director/animator’s career evolves, and I appreciated otakubrit’s insights. And now, of course, I want to watch the movie even more! Go see if you have a similar reaction!

4 Anime That Are (Mostly) About Fairies
When I think “fairies,” I think of creatures as presented by a series like The Ancient Magus’ Bride. That’s not the only interpretation, of course. It’s not even the most “accurate,” according to Japanese folklore (which is, of course, prevalent in anime). But other presentations of fairies can be a ton of fun, as this post from Tori on the site Prattler’s Paradise demonstrates. This post gives us a list of four fairy-related (or fairy-adjacent!) titles, and each is distinct. I don’t want to spoil anything, so I won’t give any of them away. I’ll just say that I have random flashbacks of the series at number three. Loved the ED, too. Can you guess what the series made the list?
