The 100 Girlfriends S3 – 01 [First Look]
I write serious hard science fictions novels. They deal with weighty topics like human governance and perseverance in the face of impossible odds. So what’s one of my favorite series in Summer 2026? Well, it’s obviously The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You Season 3! I find every episode hilarious. I know she’s an early girlfriend (in the first ten) and we’ll meet many more, but I expect Nano Eiai is remain my favorite — even though she has serious competition. Why does a series like this appeal to me? Well, FlareKnight, on the site Anime Evo, addressed that very topic in this review. Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia Episode 2 Review – Everything Changed When the Mongolians Attacked
I’ve had my eye on Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia because of its art style and its subject matter. The former because of its distinctiveness; the latter because humans obviously haven’t forgotten that war is a bad thing unless it’s the only option — and then it’s still bad — and this looks like it’s going to be a good reminder. I was glad to see that ecargmura, on the site Arum Journal, decided to review the series. ecargmura’s talent for character analysis is a perfect fit for a series like this one. Need proof? Oh, So Trope-ical: Healed by Love
What I’m about to say, I say as a cynical old man who’s seem more of the world than I want (though far less than others). I’ve witnessed betrayal after betrayal and I’m watching almost a century of hard, brutal yet productive work undone for no good reason. Yet, after all that, I still have a soft spot for certain tropes that someone in my position has no business indulging. This week, The Overage Otaku, on the site Confessions of an Overage Otaku, laid out the literary framework for one of those tropes. And just like that, I have the vocabulary I need to defend it! There are some genres that just haven’t managed to snag my interest. Romance as a standalone (as opposed to RomCom) really isn’t my thing. Unless you add supernatural elements like Fruits Basket did. Romances with fantastical elements or monsters are a different matter entirely! With that in mind, may I present this post by ChibiChonk from the site Filthy Casual for Life? The Ghost in the Shell Ep. 1: Like reading an old science fiction novel
Remember when I said that I write serious hard science fiction (above)? Well, with that in mind, it’ll likely come as zero surprise that I have watched and enjoyed most incarnations of the series airing this season called The Ghost in the Shell. When I heard a new version was on the way, I was frankly apprehensive. I wondered how it compared to the original. Then I saw the art style and, well, I wondered how it would work. Fortunately, I came across this post by Sean on the site Moe Sucks. Now I have something to think about as I try to decide whether to watch this version! What did Sean think of the art style — and other aspects of this interpretation? There’s one way to find out!

TCrow, Sayonara Lara’s Episode 2 was fantastic. Episode 1 was already quite interesting, but Episode 2 has really made its mark on me with the setup of its mysteries.
Gigguk (as Garnt) had a lot of positive things to say about that series, too! I dismissed it (prematurely!) as being simple a retelling of The Little Mermaid. Sounds like it’s more than that!
TCrow, here’s my endgame theory on Sayonara Lara based on etymology and my belief that there were a number of references to Christianity in Episode 2. The relevant moment pinged me as hard as Re:Zero’s Episode 22, A Flash Of Sloth, which got me into deeply analyzing the names of Re:Zero characters. There is a helluva lot of craft in Sayonara Lara’s story, and my write-up has a GIF that helps explain my theory without any real spoilers from the first episode, so you can still go in somewhat blind after reading this write-up.
