Mushoku Tensei Season 3 โ 10
We’re coming up on the final episodes of the Summer 2026 anime season, and I have to say that I’m going to miss Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 3. The season really built up the stakes during the first episodes this season, and I have a real sense of the family that has formed around Rudy. So much so that the biggest event in this episode came at the tail end. What is that event? For the answer, please let me direct your attention to FlareKnight’s post on Anime Evo. FlareKnight seems to have had exactly the same reaction that I did. But he went one step further — he articulated it, whereas mine was more of a “Holy –!” (followed by an expletive unsuitable for family viewing). Not only that, but he had a lot of cool insights about the rest of the episode, too! Go check it out!

Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 4 Episode 15 Review
Speaking of “Holy < expletive>” moments, did you see this episode of Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- Season 4? Shaula absolutely broke my heart, and that was only one of the those powerful moments in this episode. To give you an idea of what happened, the context for what happened, and what might happen next, please take a look at this post by DoubleSama on the site DoubleSama. As usual, DoubleSama teased apart the important parts of the episode to see what made it tick. And I didn’t really think it was possible, but he made me appreciate this episode even more after reading this post. Go see if you have a similar experience!

Merlin’s Musings
Eastern Mechs vs Western Robots, and the Questions Which Arise
From time to time, I’ve wondered why Japanese franchises prefer human-formed mechs while most of the mechanical battle gear in the west favors forms like battle tanks. So when I saw the title of this post by Merlin on Merlin’s Musings, I was immediately curious. And now, after reading it, I’m enlightened! The answer — or one of the possible answers — makes perfect sense now that Merlin put it out in the open. It’s just so Japanese! Which makes it all the more interesting in the context of anime. Sorry for being so vague, but you know the drill — if you want to know more, you have to read the post for yourself!

Shallow Dives in Anime
The Summer of Love VIII with The Garden of Sinners: Final Thoughts on the Series
The Nasuverse is a vast and complex work. So vast and complex that frankly, it’s been an impediment to me getting into the the Garden of Sinners movies. I mean, the various Fate franchises are complicated enough (Fate/Extra: Last Encore still make me shake my head whenever I think about it). But this summer, Dewbond, on the site Shallow Dives in Anime, lived up to his reputation by breaking down the entire series, including its key characters, into easily understandable units. He did such a good job of it that the series now lives with many, many (many!) others — in my backlog! Go see how he wrapped up this summer’s coverage of the series!

Why Should You Watch That?
Lycoris Recoil โ Anime Review
There are some series that I loved so much that I can get quite cross if a reviewer disrespects them. So whenever I come across a post about one of those series, I get simultaneously hopeful and nervous. I have to ask myself: am I about to get annoyed because I just can’t seem to regulate myself over this issue? Fortunately, I didn’t need to worry at all about this review by Casper on the site Why Should You Watch That? Even though Lycoris Recoil is one of my all-time favorite series. Casper not only treated it with respect: he added his own observations about what made the series so much fun to watch. Go see if he mentioned the things you liked about the series!

TCrow, here’s my write-up on Episode 82 (Season 4 Ep. 16) of Re:Zero: https://thoroughwatch.org/?p=545
I believe any write-up that doesn’t talk about Subaru enough and what led to this moment is very inadequate.
TCrow, I guess I was once again guilty of assuming anyone reading would 100% understand what I meant, so I have to clarify what I mean regarding Reid saying that amnesiac Subaru doesn’t know how to swing a sword and his remark about it not being about numbers.
The whole thing Reid directed at amnesiac Subaru not knowing how to swing a sword wasn’t meant to be taken literally as it’s a comment on technique for one’s choice of weaponry, and what he meant was that amnesiac Subaru doesn’t know how to use his whip offensively, work together with Beatrice, or use his Authorities properly, such as how he doesn’t know how to use Invisible Providence, and when he does use it, he leans toward using it offensively despite the recoil, so he’s saying amnesiac Subaru needs to focus on regaining his memories. That’s why after amnesiac Subaru says he doesn’t know how to use a sword, Reid says, “that ain’t the point”, meaning amnesiac Subaru isn’t using his full potential, backing up my read on this. This is not what somebody who allegedly bullies the weak as Shaula had said about him would do.
The comment about how it’s not about numbers was very much directed at amnesiac Subaru given Reid has Subaru’s memories with Subaru always being very keen at throwing raw numbers at a problem to solve solutions, like he did against Garfiel, and also for Julius in that Julius was likely told by the rest that Emilia passed Reid’s exam by asking for a specific condition for passing, and since Reid can take on the whole group at once easily, asking for a handicap like that is the only way to get Reid’s approval as Julius’s insistence to cling to his title and fight honourably is holding him back.
Thus, I’m not sold on the supposed malice Reid is directing at amnesiac Subaru and believe it’s part of a greater overarching plan to force him to really think about what’s the solution to the problems at the Pleiades Watchtower, which is to regain his memories and have individuals aside from himself, since he’ll pair up with Beatrice, challenge Reid individually with a specific condition, much like Emilia had done, in making him move even a step from his spot. I apologize if I were unconvincing in writing as if I were preaching to the choir.
Writing’s a lot harder than some folks think. You have to balance what you say against your readership, then build bridges where necessary while simultaneously not boring folks who might be ahead of you insights.
Good points about Reid’s sword statement. I tend to file that stuff if I don’t “get it” right away, because it’s re:ZERO, and lots of the points end up smacking me an episode or ten later. But I think in this case, what you say makes sense. There’s no hidden meaning; Reid meant Subaru had no tactical sense.
TCrow, I just realized I’d accidentally deleted a portion of my Re:Zero 81 write-up before I actually made it available. I guess I need to proofread the document ahead of time next time. I’ll share what I had intended to say about amnesiac Subaru finding Natsuki Subaru’s Book of the Dead.
I can see his finding that Book of the Dead going four ways:
1. He recovers all his memories from the previous Subaru’s time in the world just from reading that Book of the Dead.
2. He needs to read multiple Books of the Dead to recover all his memories ’cause there’s a Book of the Dead for each death.
3. He doesn’t recover his memories ’cause Natsuki Subaru’s Book of the Dead contains memories of when Subaru had existed in the world 400 years ago, and Echidna won’t allow him to see those memories, meaning he’ll get sent to the Corridor of Memories instead where Rui is and need to take back those memories himself.
4. He does recover his memories and even sees a glimpse, not everything, of the time period from 400 years ago, ’cause Echidna wills for that to happen given she almost certainly controls the Books of the Dead, and showing a partial recollection is possible as seen by when Subaru read Typhon’s Book of the Dead.
Personally, I lean toward Scenarios #2, #3, or #4 happening as Scenario #1 from my standpoint would be the most boring one from a writing standpoint although I can see why others wouldn’t feel the same way.
And I forgot to say that it for Scenarios #1, #2, and #4, it’ll still require for him to seize back his memories from Rui as that’s why the Witch of Envy is rampaging, ’cause of enemies knowing of Return by Death.
I used to proofread my posts, but I’ve run out of time. So I get how easy it would be to miss a section!
I hope the scenario is #1. If it’s the second option, the next season could easily be dedicated to Subaru just sitting and reading! I’m joking of course, but that would be a LOT of books.
Options 3 and 4 are really interesting. I hadn’t considered those.
Certainly, number 1 would be a little boring, but it depends on the steps needed. I doubt he’ll read it before the OP, then be the old Subaru right after. But who knows? I certainly can’t forecast where this writer goes. He’s too good for me to guess!
It’s amazing to me that a show can run this long and still be this engrossing.
