Amagi Brilliant Park Episode 13 – Quick Summary
In Amagi Brilliant Park episode 13, “Not a Good Promo!,” Toriken had the unenviable task of bringing a new promotional video for Kanie’s review. Kanie, of course, didn’t like it, but he didn’t have time to oversee a remake. So, Kanie gave the job to Sento. To her credit, she pointed out she had no idea what a PV should look like, and Kanie suggested they interview the rest of the cast and crew for ideas. How badly did that go? What did the end result look like? Will the park immediately be in danger of not meeting next year’s 50,000 visitor goal?

Favorite Quote from Amagi Brilliant Park Episode 13
What a pleasant thing to suggest! Capture from the Blu Ray.
I like complex, layered protagonists as much as anyone. But I learned something as I’m watching Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End: sometimes, it’s pleasant to get back to basics. In Frieren, it’s demons = bad. With Amagi Brilliant Park, it’s princess = good.
And Latifa is about as “= good” as they come!
Toriken interviewed Latifa to find out what she’d like to see in the video. Demurring, she said she really had no idea. Toriken encouraged her to suggest something she’d like to see in the video. Did she request something for herself? Something to showcase her talents?
Nope. She thought of others.
She said (12:33), “Well, since it’s such a wonderful opportunity, why not introduce some of those who work behind the scenes most of the time?” It was just darned pleasant to hear her say that. Though seeing how some of the behind-the-scenes characters reacted (like, say, Wrench), I’m not sure everyone appreciated the gesture!
Favorite Moment from Amagi Brilliant Park Episode 13
It kind of makes sense that this PV moved Sento to tears. I think. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Setup: Sport Extreme Ironing?
I honestly thought last week’s episode wrapped up the series. I’ve watched the series multiple times; it’s one of my all time favorites. And I completely forgot about this episode. It’s like it didn’t fit in my brain or something. I wondered why – then I saw the completed PV.
It’s all so clear now!
I actually learned something while reading the Reddit thread (see link below). Extreme Ironing is really a thing. I thought the show made it up for Ashe. At first, I was going to laugh about it. Then I realized that, you know what? If people get enjoyment out of that, more power to them. They aren’t hurting anyone, and it clearly takes skill. Good for them!
You know, that would take a lot of skill and practice! Capture from the Blu Ray.
Another area of interest came from Eiko Adachi. As I watched the episode, I thought that was an odd thing to include, but I appreciated the level of detail. Too often, animal births seem ridiculously easy. This episode showed the horse having a hard time of it.
I used to live on the farm. I used to help with some difficult births for cows, pigs, and sheep. Never a horse, but multiple examples of the others. I sometimes forget how far my experience is from that of most humans – just reading the Reddit thread showed me multiple folks who were pretty freaked out. Shows that I can’t always rely on my internal senses to know if a topic will be well-received or not!
Delivery: Kanie Struck Speechless
My favorite moment had to to with Kanie and Sento. Kanie’s the one who kicked off the events that resulted in the – avant garde? esoteric? – promotional video. After he watched it, he sat in stunned disbelief until he could choke out (21:07), “What the heck is THIS?”
Toriken was pretty blaise about it, so Kanie demanded Sento explain how things had ended up like this under her supervision.
She was crying! Not out of embarrassment; not because Kanie was yelling at her (I mean, the dude yells a lot, and if she ever got sick of it, she could whip out those rifles of hers). No, she wasn’t upset. She was touched!
“I think it’s a wonderful PV that inspires dreams! What is there not to like about it?” she asked, looking at him through tear-filled eyes (21:19).
We didn’t get to see him stunned into silence very often! Capture from the Blu Ray.
Kanie, for once, was speechless.
Of course, he went with the original “boring” video. And of course, Toriken uploaded the esoteric version – and equally of course, it got more views! It was solid note to end the series on. Though… I would have been just as happy had it ended on the emotional high from last week!
What did you think Codain’s contribution to the video? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

Like you, I also totally don’t remember this episode. Though extreme ironing sounds awesome, and I would totally watch a competition of it if it ever was on ESPN.
I’d watch that in a heartbeat!
