In Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga Episode 1, “Small Beginnings,” the action picks up after Season 1’s 17th episode. That means season 2 opens just after the Order of the True Cross found out that Rin Okumura was actually the son of Satan. Rin and Shura Kirigakure join Yukio Okumura to rescue a boy taken hostage by an attacker trying to get the Left Eye of the Impure King. On a train en route to another incident, Rin comes face to face with his friends for the first time since everyone found his parentage. Even Shiemi Moriyama shies away from him. Yukio reflects on his relationship with his brother.

In Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga Episode 2, “Strange Bedfellows,” Rin Okumura, his classmates, and many Exorcists from the Order of the True Cross arrive in Kyoto. Rin meets classmate Ryuji Suguro‘s eccentric father in an incident involving watermelons. Cracks appear in the unity of the branch’s factions. Yukio Okumura and his team make a gruesome, unsettling discovery along the road. Saburota Todo shows us what happened to the Impure King’s Left Eye.

Episode 3: Suspicion will Raise Bogies

In Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga Episode 3, “Suspicion Will Raise Bogies,” Ryuji Suguro and Rin Okumura try to recover from the “juice” they drank the previous night. The temple’s leaders call a meeting of all the heads of family, but Ryuji’s father Tatsuma Suguro raises suspicions by not attending. Yaozo Shima, the branch’s chief, announces that there’s a traitor within. Tempers boil over as Mamushi Hojo and Juzo Shima accuse each other. Shiemi Moriyama confronts her inner doubts, with Izumo Kamiki’s help. Rin tries to patch things up with Konekomaru Miwa.

In Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga Episode 4, “Act of Treachery,” Ryuji Suguro struggles to deal with the temple’s suspicions about his father, Tatsuma Suguro. Juzo Shima finds the Deep Keep’s guards incapacitated; he’s shocked to learn the identity of the traitor. Rin Okumura learns some control over his blue flames, only to almost lose that control in front of everyone later in the temple. Was Shura Kirigakure’s quick thinking enough to quiet their collective fear?

In Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga Episode 5, “Mysterious Connections,” the Myōō (Myoda) Dharani throws Rin Okumura in a prison cell. We learn that Rin has an unexpected connection to the Temple, which could explain their reaction to his blue flames. Yukio Okumura returns to the Temple to give bad news to Shura Kirigakure and the others. Mamushi Hojo seems to start doubting Saburota Todo, and we get to see a flashback with Shiro Fujimoto in his badass glory.

In Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga Episode 6, “A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing,” Saburota Todo and Mamushi Hojo arrive at Goma Hall, where things take a turn for the worse — at least for Mamushi. Yukio Okumura continues reading Tatsuma Suguro’s letter to Rin Okumura and Shura Kirigakure, and that letter yields even more surprises. We finally learn the terrible secret that the Tatsuma’s father had passed down to his son. It’s not clear if any of them will survive it.

In Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga Episode 7, “Like a Fire Burning Bright,” Mephisto Pheles interrupts Yukio Okumura as he reads Tatsuma Suguro’s letter to Rin Okumura and Shura Kirigakure. It’s bad news: The Vatican has ordered Rin imprisoned pending his execution. The presents Mephisto leaves help Ryuji Suguro and the other ExWires mount Rin’s rescue. Meanwhile, the temple prepares to battle the ever-growing Impure King.

In Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga Episode 8, “From Father to Son,” Ryuji Suguro leads the other ExWires up the mountain to find his father. Yukio Okumura learns that the Impure King is the least of his problems. Rin Okumura still can’t draw his sword, but he’s really optimistic that he’ll be able to at some point. Most of the Myōō (Myoda) Dharani sect’s teams engage the Impure King, but it’s growing quickly, and they’re running out of energy and tactics.

In Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga Episode 9, “Through Thick and Thin,” Yukio Okumura struggles to fend off Saburota Todo’s physical and emotional attacks until the Exorcist reaches a breaking point. Izumo Kamiki and Shiemi Moriyama fight to keep the injured Tatsuma Suguro free from the corruption of the Impure King. Rin Okumura, Ryuji Suguro, and the super-sized Kuro reach their target but have no idea how they’re going to win against such a monstrous foe. Renzo Shima shows his true colors to Konekomaru Miwa.

In Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga Episode 10, “Unbowed and Unbroken,” Juzo Shima and Yukio Okumura continue their battle against Saburota Todo, with muddy results. Inside the fire barrier with the miasma eruptions, Rin Okumura, Ryuji Suguro, and Kuro have to fight not only the miasma, but the terrifying true form of the Impure King. Shiemi Moriyama tries to use her familiar Nee to save Izumo Kamiki, but the impurity coating Kamiki is spreading fast — almost as fast as Moriyama’s strength is ebbing. Konekomaru Miwa and Renzo Shima arrive in camp and tell everyone that Ryuji and Rin raised the barrier. Shura Kirigakure enters the barrier in a desparate attempt to help them.

In Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga Episode 11, “Shine Bright as the Sun,” Shura Kirigakure protects Ryuji Suguro while Rin Okumura attacks the Impure King. But even his flames can’t keep up with the monstrous demon’s might. Shiemi Moriyama‘s familiar Nee collapses with Izumo Kamiki still imprisoned in the impurity; but Moriyama is unwilling to give up. An already exhausted Yukio Okumura faces off against a quickly regenerating Saburota Todo. How can Yukio fight an enemy with an ever-shifting form? Rin has to make a deal with an unexpected ally — will even that be enough to overcome the Impure King?

In Blue Exorcist Kyoto Saga Episode 12, “Candid and Open,” Rin Okumura awakens to find he hadn’t been sleeping alone. Shura Kirigakure flirts with Mephisto Pheles — using ninja darts. Wedding bells may be in the air, but Juzo Shima should have asked the bride to be first — and in private! Rin Okumura gets his wish to visit Kyoto Tower, though he’s chagrined at the new found power his friends claims he has over them. Finally, Rin asks his brother Yukio Okumura to meet him by a river for a brother to brother talk.
