Call of the Night Episode 5 Review – Quick Summary

In Call of the Night episode 5, “Well, That’s a Problem,” Nazuna felt antsy, so she went to a bathhouse. It was a good thing she asked the attendant to listen for a call on her wrist transceiver, because it wasn’t long before Kou tried contact her. The sight of her fresh from the bath, her hair down, had a profound effect on the young man. So much so that he couldn’t speak for a few long moments. How long will Nazuna tease him about that? How will Kou himself feel about it? And what kind of hotel is just for “resting?”

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Favorite Quote from Call of the Night Episode 5

Call of the Night Episode 5: Does Nazuna maybe have a hint of romantic intent? Or is she just hungry?

Is she just hungry? Or does she want to be the center of his emotional life? Should that “or” be an “and”? Capture from the HIDIVE stream.

I’m trying to decide if Nazuna is actually romantic. Or is she really selfish and knows how to put a good spin on it? Or maybe in the final analysis, there’s no difference between the two?

My favorite quote came after Kou wrestled with his feelings after seeing Nazuna fresh from the bath. He told himself that he thought of her as a friend. But his body’s and emotion’s response to seeing her with her hair down took him by surprise. In his mind, feeling arousal for a friend didn’t seem right.

She tried to put him at ease in her teasing way. In fact, she teased him about his feelings of arousal, saying that she could get a sense of his thoughts based on the taste of his blood. The ever-changing nature of that flavor is part of why she likes him so much.

That’s when she said something that made me wonder. She said (12:10), “Everything you feel, feel them for me.”

I can’t tell if that’s one of the sexiest things I’ve ever heard, one of the most selfish things I’ve ever heard, or a perfect balance between the two. That makes the quote all the more interesting!

Best in Show Moment for Call of the Night Episode 5

Call of the Night Episode 5: Nazuna thought Kou would fall for the lust argument.

Nazuna thought for sure Kou would fall for her trap – and get her out of some work. Capture from the HIDIVE stream.

Setup: Kou is an Impressionable Young Man

Kou seems to be finding his voice. Despite the trip to the love hotel throwing him off his game, and despite the profound emotional and spiritual impact of staring at Nazuna’s thighs as she gave him the professional cuddle package, he retained the ability to think straight. Which I found impressive.

What I found even more impressive is that it almost seemed like the message she gave him somehow encouraged him. Like her touch had the effect of giving him some self confidence. That makes sense if I think about it. I remember back in the day, when I was still trying to figure out dating and all that, how most of a confidence booster any kind of attention could be. That was doubly true if the person was someone I particularly liked.

Call of the Night Episode 5: Nazuna's thighs spoke to Kou's imagination

He swore there was nothing untoward on his mind. I’m not sure I believe him! Capture from the HIDIVE stream.

When the doorbell rang, Kou had no idea what to expect. He knew nothing about Nazuna’s business. In fact, I don’t recall him asking! I didn’t know, either, so I was really curious who it could be. Then the camera showed a picture of a young woman, half hugging herself, looking off to the side. She looked uncomfortable, or maybe unfulfilled. Was she anxious about visiting Nazuna? Is this one of the women Nazuna had mentioned had been a food source in the past? Was her life so without joy that she would only stand there in a vague sort of way?

The only thing I was sure of is that I wanted to reach out and hug her. She was that immediately sympathetic. “Oh crap, it’s a customer,” Nazuna said (18:19) before asking Kou what she could do. Which was hilarious in and of itself. She’s the business owner. She should know these things!

Delivery: Kou Sticks Up for the Customer!

Saying she was exhausted from giving him a massage and that she wanted him to be the cuddle buddy, Nazuna convinced Kou to greet the customer. That was all kinds of awkward. But the customer recovered quickly and asked for the “Massage Course.” He got her settled in the main room. He had no intention of being her “cuddle buddy.” Something about her seems to have triggered his protective instincts, because he went looking for Nazuna.

He found her playing video games, which seemed like a particularly Nazuna thing to do. She tried to convince him that everything was cool – he should just give her a massage. She said he should be thrilled just thinking about touching her body.

Call of the Night Episode 5: This woman looks like she needs a hug

This woman looks like she has not had an easy day. Or week. Or month. Capture from the HIDIVE stream.

“You’re awful! Shut the business down,” he said (19:55), the conviction in his voice impressing me.

My favorite moment came next. She objected, but he took a few steps towards her and said (19:58), “They come in with complete trust. They’re a customer! That kind of sleazy attitude is not okay! You should be ashamed!”

How cool is that? He decided he wanted her to be treated well. More than that, he insisted that Nazuna, with whom he’s trying to figure out how to have a relationship, treat her better!

And best of all? Nazuna herself couldn’t argue. “Sheesh, I can’t argue with that,” she said.

I’m glad Kou stuck up for that young woman. She looked like she could really use an ally.

What did you think of Kou’s reaction to learning about Nazuna’s business? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
