Call of the Night Episode 8 – Quick Summary
In Call of the Night episode 8, “All of Us,” Kou learned something he would rather not have learned, and it had to do with his desire to become a vampire. But if he thought he felt concerned before, after Akira explained the implications, he got really concerned. Later, Seri found out just how innocent Kou was, so she tried to give him dating advice. But that put Kou in considerable danger. Consider: one of Nazuna’s most hated rivals had just tried to interfere with Nazuna’s love life. Will Nazuna find out? If she does, how will she react? Would Kou be in even more trouble than he already was?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.
Favorite Quote from Call of the Night Episode 8
Seems like Nazuna appreciates honest sentiment. Capture from the HIDIVE stream.
Nazuna had just watched the other vampires start drinking and generally being sociable. Something about the scene bothered her. Did she feel left out? Did she suddenly feel the gap between her sensibilities and those of the other four vampires?
Whatever the reason, she decided to reward Kou for his massaging Kiyosumi Shirakawa in episode 6. Nazuna kissed him in front of everyone. It felt like she was making a statement: look, I can have fun, too.
She took off with Kou (literally – she flew off with him). As they flew, Kou tried to unpack everything that had just happened. He realized he could have been killed, and he had also noticed the difference between Nazuna and the others. He almost pissed her off when he said, “Well, you’re pretty unusual even for a vampire, huh?”
Then he recovered nicely when he said (03:08), “I’m not sure how to say this, but I’m glad you’re the one I met, Nazuna-chan.”
Her smile showed how much she appreciated him saying that.

Kou is helping Nazuna ease into the idea of a relationship. Capture from the HIDIVE stream.
Setup: An Uneven Relationship?
In the back of my mind, I’ve been uneasy about the idea of Nazuna, an ageless, experienced vampire, toying with Kou’s affections. It felt like she might be taking advantage of him. After the last couple of episodes, though, I’m beginning to wonder if I had it wrong. Not the “ageless” part. But the “experienced” part.
Kou obviously has no experience where romance is concerned. But he’s tried to understand himself. That’s why he ventured into the night. Based on what Niko and her cohorts said, it seems like Nazuna is not only inexperienced. She violently rejects any inquiry into the subject. I have a feeling Nazuna’s reaction isn’t limited to other vampires. I think she’s that way with herself.
Consider: she sits at home alone playing video games. Now, I’m not saying that’s a negative. I do that when I can, too. But it seems Nazuna uses that as a crutch as much as a form of entertainment.
I’m not disparaging video games. I’d play them more if I could! But Nazuna hides behind them. Capture from the HIDIVE stream.
I’m beginning to think that Kou is actually the more mature of the two. It’s hard to say, because we don’t know anything about Nazuna before she met Kou. But watching Kou interact with Akira and seeing how readily he accepts her advice suggests he’s on more healthy footing.
My favorite moment in this episode gives me some hope that Nazuna is wrestling with these questions herself. And I think Kou’s going to benefit almost as much as she will.
Remember how Kou tried to follow Seri’s advice for his date with Nazuna? I’m not sure if Seri intentionally set Kou on a collision course with the Wrath of Nazuna. I don’t think so. I think Seri is just like Niko and the rest – they have an idea of what romance looks like, and they think everyone sees it that way. But her advice did not work for Kou.
Delivery: The Beginning of a Beautiful Partnership
Kou knew things weren’t going well based on Nazuna’s violently allergic reaction to the RomCom movie. It got worse when he tried to follow Seri’s script, even though he knew Nazuna would be able to tell he wasn’t being himself. Well, she did see through him, and she even found the script. Recognizing Seri’s handwriting, Nazuna walked out of the restaurant and left Kou alone.
Dude was bummed. He went home and said to himself (14:17), “Failing your first date kinda kills you inside.” I can sympathize with that, and no, I won’t say why. But then something happened that surprised me. Not as much as it surprised Kou, though! Nazuna showed up outside his second story window.
Kou did not feel good in the aftermath of his first date. Capture from the HIDIVE stream.
“Yo!” she said, adding she didn’t want the night to end on a negative note. She took him on another flight, then asked him what he thought a date was. Her question was rhetorical.
“We’re always going on dates, aren’t we?” she asked as they frolicked in the air (15:33). “Just do what you always do. I find that pretty fun.”
I’m beginning to think Kou is a good influence on Nazuna. If, as it seems, they are both bringing something to the relationship, if they are meeting as partners instead of vampire/tasty treat, I think their relationship has a fighting chance. Though, to be candid, I think the “tasty treat” aspect isn’t going away any time soon!
What did you think of Akira thinking Kou’s conversation with Mahiru Seki had gotten too “corny?” What were your favorite moments in this episode? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
