In Cat Planet Cuties episode 10, “We Came After You,” Eris was excited to experience her first Earth Christmas. But Manami, seeing how close Eris and Kio had become, felt exasperated with Aoi for her complacency. Didn’t Aoi want to get closer to Kio? What if Eris used Christmas as an excuse to get even closer? And then, suddenly, all of that became completely irrelevant. What happened? What intruded on their relatively happy disagreements? And why did Kuune, the captain of the Catian ship, come to Earth?

Manami seems like a practical young woman. Kind of pushy, too. She went after Aoi in this episode for seeming reluctant to assert herself. Basically, Manami was worried that Eris would use Christmas to get closer to Kio – at Aoi’s expense.
Aoi’s shyness exasperated Manami. She told Aoi that this was the perfect time to throw herself at Kio. The reason? Eris’ libido seemed to be locked up because it wasn’t her mating season. Seeing that Aoi wasn’t getting it, Manami decided to be blunt.
“Eris’ next mating season may be a little while off,” she said urgently (04:00). “But we humans are good to go year-round, right?”
Manami gets points for applying tactical thinking to romance. I think. She might be projecting her own feelings onto Aoi!

A lot happened in this episode, but most of it was set up for the climax coming in the next couple of episodes. But there was one slower moment that once again reminded me of the quality of Eris’ civilization. The moment showed she was both more advanced, yet still empathetic.
Captain Kuune had come to Earth, in part to give Kio a present. What was this present, you may ask? It was a bracelet that would transform into a Catian combat suit! The present clearly pleased Kio.
Kuune warned him that there was a trick to using it, and that he would have to train with Eris. Kio, still grinning at the thought of being able to protect himself and his friends, looked to Eris. He seemed surprised to see her looking not happy for him, but pensive.
Kio, ever the super-sensitive young man (I say sarcastically), asked her if something was wrong.
“I’m just a little sad,” she said (10:24). ““I was thinking that you shouldn’t have to arm yourself, Kio.”
She didn’t fully understand his reasoning; but she accepted it. Capture from the Blu Ray.
She knew that Kio wanted to fight, so she didn’t begrudge him that. And when he explained that he wanted to fight in part because he was a guy, Eris readily admitted she didn’t get it. But again, she didn’t belittle him for his sentiment. She accepted it even though she didn’t understand it.
Seriously, the Catians are a great race!
