Cat Planet Cuties Episode 12 – Quick Summary
In Cat Planet Cuties episode 12, “I Came to Find You,” Kio’s allies rushed to fuel the new spaceship. But the NATO tanks were closing in fast. Can Antonia’s maids hold them back long enough? Even if they can, Manami and Aoi still have not resolved their argument. In fact, it erupts again, this time engulfing even Eris. Can they maintain civility long enough to get into orbit? And where’s Jens in all of this?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.
Favorite Quote from Cat Planet Cuties Episode 12
No, Kio. They’re not friendly. Capture from the Blu Ray.
I like Kio. He’s a nice young man. Good head on his shoulders. Well, most of the time. He’s completely clueless when it comes to matters of the heart. But he more than makes up for it with his command of the obvious.
As proof, may I present my favorite quote of the episode?
They finally got their vintage 1950s-era spaceship into orbit. Now “all” they had to do was build their warp drive, and they could help the Catian ship. Unfortunately, Jens had other ideas. She launched a very large number of fighters from her space-based platform.
Seeing those fighters hurtling towards his own ship, Kio said (10:20), “They’re obviously not friendly, huh?”
Kio Kakazu, making even Captain Obvious flinch.

Go with what works! Capture from the Blu Ray.
Setup: We Didn’t Watch for the Science Fiction Action
The science fiction writer in me demands I get this off my chest: that’s not how tank combat works! That’s not how space combat works! That’s not how temporal mechanics work! Well, the latter might be wrong. I actually have no idea how temporal mechanics work. But it didn’t look right in this episode!
But that’s not why we watched this show, is it?
Well, it’s not why I watched the show. You’re probably more sophisticated than I am.
What the show did get right, IMHO, revolved around Eris and her culture. She resisted being worshiped. She experienced remorse over what her people had done to the Assisteroids. And finally, in this episode, she found a peaceful solution to a problem humans have had for, well, since we were humans.
Manami and Aoi had not resolved their argument. In fact, Aoi had dug in. She wasn’t taking any more of Manami’s crap. Aoi took the fight to her – to the point where Manami had to admit that no, she was not over Kio.
Manami finally let her feelings out. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Eris, ever the most cultured sentient being present, tried to intervene. That’s when Manami tried to blame everything on her, saying (06:14), “It’s just not fair! Where do you get off, with your kitty ears and tail, and your big boobs, and your natural innocence, and being an alien. Kio is such a nerd, and there’s no way I’m a match for big guns like that.”
First, I think Manami’s overlooking a major point (okay, two major points). Second, she gets credit for opening up. She’d been holding those emotions in check since episode 1. Now, those feelings came tumbling out.
Delivery: Eris, Representing an Advanced Culture (with a Capital “C”)
Did Eris take offense? Did she respond in anger? Nope. This is Eris we’re talking about. Acknowledging that Kio was obviously a special person to Manami, just as he was to Aoi, Eris said (07:15), “That’s fine. So then, let’s all three of us be in love with Kio together.”
Am I advocating for harems in real life? No. But I’m not not advocating for them. They’re not for someone like me, but let’s face it: humans come with a wide variety of emotional temperaments . How many problems with jealousy and possessiveness would be solved if more people acknowledge Eris’ idea?
Aoi and Manami weren’t sure at first. But they seemed to warm up to the idea. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Of course, all parties would have to agree. Aoi and Manami seemed onboard with the idea. And Kio? Well, he’s clueless enough that he’s not really certain what’s going on. He should just trust the more culturally advanced perspective and go with it.
On a side note, their changing clothes right in front of him gave me a new definition of “incentive.” Even if he has to chew his way through bricks with his bare teeth, but he’s coming back from his mission. You can bet your last dollar on that!
What did you think of the Catian Christmas present to humans? What were your favorite moments from the episode? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
