Cat Planet Cuties Episode 6 – Quick Summary

In Cat Planet Cuties episode 6, “I’ve Practiced,” Manami said she wanted to improve her shooting to better protect the Catian embassy. What she meant was that she was a gun nut who wanted to shoot stuff – and Aoi was willing to help! But it turned out that shooting out in the yard, in broad daylight, startled the neighbors. Much to Manami’s disappointment, Kio told them to stop. Is there another way for Manami to get her fix? Will Aoi ever learn to cook? And is Eris back to normal — whatever that may be?

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Cat Planet Cuties Episode 6: Eris is as polite as she is intelligent -- which is to say, quite a lot!

Eris was super nice when she corrected the girls in Kio’s club. Capture from the Blu Ray.

Eris likes to have fun. She’s up-beat, and her personality is effervescent. Ordinarily, a female character with those traits would be, let’s say, somewhat less than intellectual. That’s the cliche, anyway. Fortunately, Eris doesn’t care about cliches.

This one, at least.

Kio and Eris had gone to school to shoot a sci-fi film with the club. They have Eris as an alien, right? Talk about realistic! But much to Maki Itokazu’s delight (she was in Beautiful Contact, the terrorist group), the two other girls in the club said Eris didn’t really look like an alien.

But one of them had a good idea. She asked if Eris had a UFO or something.

I admire Eris’s precision in terminology. She said (11:03), “To be precise, a UFO is an unidentified flying object, but if you don’t mind an identified fly object spaceship, I do have the real thing.”

She was really nice about it, too!

Favorite Moment from Cat Planet Cuties Episode 6

Cat Planet Cuties Episode 6: Manami realized how much she liked Kio

Manami had to confront the idea that both sides of the conversation were from her! Capture from the Blu Ray.

Setup: Catian Tech Sets the Stage for Manami

Do you have experience with firearms? Were you freaking out as much as I was in the scenes where Manami was waving that pistol around? Kio really should have waived his concerns about the neighbors – Manami absolutely needs training! That said, it looked like Aoi knew her stuff. Get her to talk some sense into Manami!

Seriously, those scenes made me physically nervous.

Despite that, I’m still going to pick a Manami moment as my favorite. The scene could have been a cliche – the girl realizes her feelings for her man! But this being Cat Planet Cuties, they put a different spin on it. A different capstone, too!

Before I get too far into that spiral of cliche phrases, let’s get to the moment.

Cat Planet Cuties Episode 6: Manami needs to learn better gun handling

Seriously! She needs to be disarmed until she’s properly trained! Capture from the Blu Ray.

Since Kio wouldn’t let Aoi teach Manami to teach in the front yard, Chaika had the perfect solution – use the ship’s holodeck! They called it the Virtual Room, but I’ve seen enough Star Trek Next Generation that I can only think of it as a holodeck. Anyway, Chaika said they could use the facilities to practice cooking and shooting.

Manimi found herself in a room stocked with a huge variety of weapons. She summoned an M134 minigun. While Arnold Schwarzenegger could have hefted it with ease, it probably weighed more than Manami. She couldn’t pick it up. So, she asked for a virtual version of Kio to help her.

You can probably guess where this is going. You’d be right! Manami remembered when she and Kio were growing up. She remembered the time she had just gotten the watch we saw her wearing in earlier episodes. Turns out she had damaged it trying to catch up to Kio. That day, she ended up riding on on the back of his bicycle, her head resting against her back.

Delivery: Manami Gave the Simulation Too Much Credit

Her imaginary version of Kio told her that when he heard her talking to Jack, he thought Manami had a boyfriend. The imaginary Kio went on about how he felt like he and Manami had broken up, so he had tried to get over her.

Sounds like a typical rom-com misunderstanding, right? Well, it gets better.

That evening, Aoi asked the real Kio to sample her cooking. He tried to be polite, but he couldn’t hide the fact that her cooking wasn’t very good. Taken aback, Aoi asked Chaika how that could be. After all, her version of virtual Kio had liked her cooking.

“He told you it was delicious,” Chaika said (20:52), “based on how you wanted the idealized Kio inside your mind to react!”

Cat Planet Cuties Episode 6: Chaika was very helpful

Chaika was happy to explain how the Virtual Room worked – but left out a crucial detail until later. Capture from the Blu Ray.

And just like that – boom! – Manami had to confront the idea that everything she saw in that virtual space came from her. She couldn’t blame Kio for not being up front with her, or for hiding his feelings from her. She had it bad for him, and that’s all there was to it!

I really like the extra care and effort the show put into building up to this moment. Now, the three main female protagonists are very clear on who they love and why. In this case, I really think they need to invoke the Momo solution. I mean, seriously – they all get along, and they like each other. I’m pretty sure Eris is cool with it. As far as Kio goes, well, the guy’s adaptable. He’ll figure it out!

What did you think of how thoroughly the Catian officers and crew scrutinized Aoi’s suit? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
