Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 14 – Quick Summary

In Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 episode 14, “Deal Game, Test of Wit,” things seemed to be going well for the Kingdom of Science. They had manufactured a small quantity of the revival fluid, and it had begun to restore their friends. But then Amaryllis brought the news of what happened to Kohaku and Ginrou to Senkuu. He was seriously, seriously displeased. How will Senkuu, Ryuus, Gen, and the rest respond? Especially since they all know they can’t keep their base hidden forever!

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Favorite Quote from Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 14

Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 14: Gen's skills are impressive

Gen’s act was so convincing he had me fooled. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

I gotta say: I like Gen. I like how the show portrays him. In this episode, they had be believing Gen had lost – that Mozu had resisted Gen’s verbal attack. I thought maybe Mozu was too stubborn. Or maybe not intelligent enough? Some of Gen’s attacks rely on intelligence, after all. And Mozu is not that intelligent. Clever, sure. But he hasn’t been able to out maneuver Ibara in all this time.

My favorite quote is Senkuu reacting to Ukyou, who said he was shocked at how the conversation had changed – after it became apparent that it had gone exactly as Gen had wanted, despite how it had seemed at the time.

“The conversation was originally whether he was going to kill us all or not,” Senkuu said (18:26), where “he” meant Mozu. “Psychological reactance has him refusing to do as this sleazy man wants. We’re suddenly talking about working together!”

Remind me never to play poker against Gen! Though I’m not likely to forget…

Favorite Moment from Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 14

Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 14: Senkuu was furious when he heard what happened to Kohaku

This is Senkuu’s “Someone is going to pay”  expression. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Senkuu’s a reserved man. He responds to the world intellectually. He doesn’t let his emotions overwhelm him. The guy remains in control even under the most dire of circumstances. That’s why my favorite moments this episode is a single shot.

Remember when Amaryllis brought the news that Kohaku and Ginrou had been petrified? She was weeping. The others, like Chrome, seemed shocked and dismayed. But not Senkuu. His expression made me sit up in my chair. He was absolutely livid.

Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 14: Amaryllis watched what happened so she could report

Amaryllis watched what happened closely so she could report it. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

I don’t know how he feels about Kohaku. In the previous episode, when she described what she admired in a man, she might as well have been listing Senkuu’s personality traits. But I wasn’t quite sure how he felt about her. I still don’t know for sure. But I know this: he did not take the news of her petrification with his usual sense of reserve. She’s important to him – special – so special that the news pieced his calm. There was simply no way he was going to let this stand. I almost felt sorry for Ibara and Kirisame in that moment.

Almost.

What did you think of Mozu popping up out of the water? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!

  1. Oddly – and people forget this – Senku was (… in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment) briefly married to Kohaku’s sister, Ruri, a few seasons ago.

There are still threads of connection there, if perhaps only because Senku saved her life, and that she’s a living link to Byakuya.

Anyway, this isn’t a Manga/Anime about romance (… even if some might occasionally bubble up just beneath the surface.)

    Random Thoughts:

    – This episode was primarily adapted from Manga Chapters 122-123, and maybe a page or two of Chapter 124.

    – That shot of petrified Kohaku holding petrified Ginro was a full splash page in the manga. And gorgeous. 🤗✨

    – I’d been a bit worried that they’d forgotten about Yuzuriha, but here she is.

    – Both Chrome and Kaseki got a kick out of their initial Petrifications.

    – There’s still the matter of that ‘Rando’ statue the gang re-assembled: Someone Amaryllis knows perhaps?

    – There was a lovely – but incredibly difficult to adapt – effect in the Manga, where at several points Senku and his Generals appear in small, jigsaw puzzle-shaped panels: The ‘Puzzle Piece’ motif was thankfully retained overall, though I would have liked to have seen those specific shots utilized as well. 🧩✨

    – Just over 100 Manga Chapters remain to be adapted, two additional full seasons should do it. 🤞✨

    1. I remember that marriage. It lasted what, 30 seconds?

“That shot of petrified Kohaku holding petrified Ginro was a full splash page in the manga.”

That had to pack a huge punch! It certainly did in the anime.

“I’d been a bit worried that they’d forgotten about Yuzuriha, but here she is.”

I’d missed her. Man, is she fast or what?

“Just over 100 Manga Chapters remain to be adapted, two additional full seasons should do it.”

I’m sorely tempted to read ahead, but I’m having too much fun letting the anime unfold at its own speed. I don’t usually mind spoilers, but in this case, I’m glad I’ve avoided them!
