Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 16 – Quick Summary

In Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 episode 16, “Total War,” Senkuu hoped his plan prepared the Kingdom of Science for Moz’s betrayal. After all, Senkuu fully understood Moz did not deal with them in good faith. But has Senkuu underestimated Moz? Will Oarashi’s attack give him any time to think about this problem? And where did Gen get to, anyway?

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Favorite Quote from Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 16

Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 16: Nikki found a simple way forward

Nikki had things completely under control. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Sometimes, you don’t need Gen’s mental subtlety or Senkuu’s elaborate science. Sometimes, you just need a good punch in the head.

Nikki delivered one in this episode, and the victim’s reaction was my favorite quote.

Nikki, Senkuu, Chrome, and Ryuusui needed to steal a boat. Hidden in the bushes, they started debating on the right approach. There weren’t getting anyway, so Nikki took matters in her own hands. She stood up, sauntered over to the guy guarding the boat, and smacked him in the head.

“Why?!” he blurted out just before he lost consciousness (17:37).

Sometimes, the direct approach is the best approach.

Favorite Moment from Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 16

Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 16: Soyuz' father seemed to be a kind man

He didn’t have Senkuu’s brain or Kohaku’s strength. But he was a good dad. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Setup: Ibara, a Solid Villain

I’m liking Ibara as a villain. He pays attention and thinks strategically. He’s curious. And he’s absolutely brutal. All “good” qualities in a villain pitted against Senkuu. Ibara even suspected Senkuu and company might try to use the master’s statue against him, so he shattered it.

Which brings me of my favorite moment. This show treats fathers well, doesn’t it? Byakuya Ishigami’s hit me right in the feels with such precision I’m still trying to figure out exactly how the writer did it. This episode treated us to another emotionally effective father moment. This time, it was courtesy of Soyuz.

Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 16: Soyuz had been on the verge of recovering his memory on the trek to the master's hut

Soyuz had been on the verge of recovering his memory several times on the way to the master’s hut. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Taiju led Soyuz, Yuzuriha, Ukyou, Suika, and Amaryllis to retrieve the master’s statue. But when they arrived, they found that Ibara had already smashed it beyond recognition. They were all freaked out. It looked like the mission had ended in complete failure.

Yuzuriha recovered first. She said they could use some adhesive Senkuu had created to put the status back together. So they all dove in and tried to help.

Delivery: Soyuz Remembered His Father

Soyuz had been recovering partial memories. The closer he got to the master, the more he seemed to remember. Then he saw the master’s petrified forearm and hand. He reached for the hand. Upon touching it, he remembered. He remembered being a baby’s in his mother’s arms. He remembered his father coming into the hut.

His father reached out with a hand – the same hand that the adult Soyuz now held in stone form – and baby Soyuz grabbed his fingers. Baby Soyuz immediately stopped crying, the touch of his father’s hand comforting him.

Dr. STONE NEW WORLD Part 2 Episode 16: Soyuz' father's touch comforted baby Soyuz

His father’s touch comforted baby Soyuz. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Soyuz could clearly see his father looking down on him (20:32). Father had a kind face. He clearly loved his son. It was the shot’s normalcy that appealed to me. Soyuz’ dad probably didn’t have any kind of hyper intellect or other superpowers. He couldn’t wrestle tigers or bears. The man was just a good father who loved his son – and whose son loved him. It’s basic, it’s universal, and it reminded me of one of the reasons this show affects me so much. Sure, the science is great. It’s phenomenal, actually. But these little emotional touches warm my heart. That’s saying a lot in this day and age!

What did you think of Ibara’s plan to get everyone on the ship? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
