Engaged to the Unidentified Episode 10 – Quick Summary

In Engaged to the Unidentified episode 10, “I Looked Up the Term ‘Lovey-Dovey Phase’,Benio, hard, to come to terms with Kobeni and Hakuya taking an itsy-bitsy, tiny, infinitesimal, not-very-bit-at-all step toward being a couple. As usual, she expressed herself with reserve. Or not. Can Kobeni find a way to help Benio calm down? Is that even possible? And will Mashiro manage to keep herself free from the fallout?

Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.

Engaged to the Unidentified Episode 10: Konoha looked so sad!

She looked so sad about it! Capture from the Blu Ray.

Konoha is growing on me. She wants to listen to her mom by finding herself a husband. I’m pretty sure she doesn’t know what that all entails, but I could be wrong. In any event, it’s endearing that she wants to do what she thinks is the right thing.

That extends to not wanting to do something if it’s the wrong thing. Like getting between Kobeni and Hakuya if they actually like each other. Konoha felt comfortable proposing to Hakuya when she thought Kobeni wasn’t into him. In this episode, she learned otherwise.

Kobeni baked her a cake (or bought one for her – it was wrapped very prettily!), which was a perfectly Kobeni thing to do. She gave it to Konoha as an apology. She added that she wasn’t opposed to her engagement to Hakuya – she was just shy about it.

Later, as Konoha thought it over, she realized she never had a chance.

“It’s over before it even started?” she mused (06:52).The voice actor, Saki Fujita, really nailed the moment!

Engaged to the Unidentified Episode 10: So that's what angry Kobeni looks like!

There are at least two people lucky that Kobeni has self control. Capture from the Blu Ray.

Setup: Engaged to the Unidentified’s Link to Fruits Basket

I used to joke that Tanjirou Kamado was the combat form of  Tooru Honda. After my favorite moment, I think we can add one more angle to the now triangle – Kobeni is the even more shy, even more retiring form of Tooru Honda – with a kind of Tanjirou held in reserve.

Mashiro and Mayura had left Kobeni alone with Hakuya so they could get closer. It was cute seeing Mashiro and Mayura giggle as they left the two – those two are great together. Kobeni was at a complete loss for words, but Hakuya stepped up. He suggested, in his practical way, that they just walk home.

He’s a man of few words. But they’re generally important words!

Engaged to the Unidentified Episode 10: Benio stuck the landing.

I’ll give her points for nailing the landing. Capture from the Blu Ray.

They walked out. Hakuya asked if he could text Kobeni from time to time, and she said yes – only to receive an emoji from him a second later. Benio, watching from the second floor, was not pleased. Not pleased at all. First, they seemed to be getting along better. Now, they were walking home alone?

Delivery: A New Goddess of War is Born!

She leapt from the second story window and landed, superhero style, on the pavement. The move freaked out Kobeni, since Kobeni is not insane. Kobeni asked Benio is she was okay after such a jump (which is, again, such a Kobeni thing to do), and Benio said she was fine, but that letting Mashiro go home alone was unacceptable.

Out walked Mashiro, indignant that Benio was interrupting Kobeni and Hakuya’s bonding time. Of course, Mashiro and Benio got into a shouting match. It ended as someone cast a threatening shadow over them.

Engaged to the Unidentified Episode 10: Kobeni's goddes-of-war form cast a deep shadow.

That’s some shadow that Kobeni’s goddess-of-war-form casts! Capture from the Blu Ray.

“Wait,” Kobeni said, literally towering with rage (12:31). “So then you both were… secretly watching?”

This time, it was Kobeni’s voice actor, Haruka Terui, who nailed the part. She managed to sound like sweet, considerate Kobeni – if she had the power to cast down the heavens on the heads of her enemies.

At least we know now what Kobeni’s like when she gets angry!

What did you think of Hakuya’s reaction to Kobeni giving him a handkerchief? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
