Engaged to the Unidentified Episode 7 – Quick Summary
In Engaged to the Unidentified episode 7, “That’s One Thing, This is Another,” Benio continued to fuss and fawn over both Kobeni and Mashiro. Mashiro, of course, objected – but not nearly as much as Konoha Suetsugi, who wanted to have a monopoly on Benio’s fussing and fawning. What’s she willing to do to secure her place? How many of her frustrated monologues will Kobeni overhear? And what secret is Konoha trying to hide?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.
Favorite Quote from Engaged to the Unidentified Episode 7
Mashiro was not prepared for Benio’s attention. Which is a caption I could use a lot with this show. Capture from the Blu Ray.
I honestly have to admire Benio’s relentless optimism when it comes to the objects of her affection. In this case, that “honor” falls to Mashiro, but Kobeni isn’t immune. My favorite quote is a perfect example.
Mashiro came upon a scene that, to her young mind, must have seemed like something out of a horror show. Benio had greeted a group of five young women who had just wrapped up their tests. She greeted them with such angelic affection that one swooned. Her friend had to grab her to save her from crashing to the floor.
Mashiro did not see this as a good thing. She wondered what kind of poison gas Benio had used.
“I need to quarantine Benio quickly!” she said (17:49).
When it comes to Mashiro, Benio seemed to have enhanced senses. She heard. She also apparently teleported to Mashiro’s side. Horrified, Mashiro could only listen as Benio spoke.
“Quarantine?” she said (17:51). “So, you want to monopolize me? Greedy. Little. Girl.”
Only Benio could take “quarantine” and end up with, well, whatever she ended up with!
Favorite Moment from Engaged to the Unidentified Episode 7
Kobeni seemed pleased at Hakuya’s attitude about cheating. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Setup: Competition for Favorite Moment!
The way this show delivered the recurring joke of Kobeni overhearing Konoha made me smile. What really made it was how horrified Konoha felt, while Kobeni seemed to feel embarrassed by the whole situation.
It’s just so peaceful to watch someone like Kobeni navigate their way through life. There’s not a malicious bone in her body, and she genuinely seems to want the people around her to be happy and at peace.
There were several important developments in this episode, and most competed for my favorite moment. Remember when Hakuya told Niko Oono to stop bothering Kobeni and Mashiro (09:50)? Or when he asked Kobeni if being compared to her sister bothered her (08:41)? Hakuya hadn’t been as assertive before. It’s like he’s finding his way, and I liked seeing that.
Hakuya has a protective streak. Capture from the Blu Ray.
\Or when Konoha realized she might run afoul of Benio if she caused problems for Mashiro or Kobeni? She tried to call off Niko, but she was so fired up to be a good reporter that she ran off, more inspired than ever (08:27). That’s just me being selfish, though. I remembered when reporters tried to make the world better. I’m sure they will again; not all men and women are motivated solely by money. For now, though, I’ll count myself lucky to come lucky to encounter an honest, enthusiastic reporter in fiction.
Delivery: Kobeni’s Gentle Smile
My favorite moment involved Hakuya and Kobeni, and I chose it because it’s another sign that their relationship is taking a step forward. Kobeni asked Hayuka if he’d do okay on the upcoming test. He said probably, since she was his teacher. But Kobeni could see he wasn’t really confident.
When Mashiro told Hakuya to get his act together, that reminded Kobeni that Mashiro should have needed to take the re-test, too. So she asked Mashiro about it. Mashiro cheerfully confessed that she cheated (15:15). In fact, Mashiro said she used the power of suggestion, which also allowed her to attend high school. Kobeni asked Hakuya if he could do the same thing.
Mashiro encouraged Hakuya to get his act together – and disclosed that she can wield the power of suggestion. Capture from the Blu Ray.
“I can,” he said seriously (15:35), which is how he says most things. “But cheating is bad. Unlike Mashiro, I’m a genuine high school freshman.”
Kobeni’s half-surprised smile was my favorite moment. It’s a small thing, sure. But isn’t that how relationships go? Little moments, here and there, where two people realize the have this or that in common. This show excels at presenting moments like that.
