Fire Force Season 3 Episode 10 – Quick Summary
In Fire Force Season 3 episode 10, “Advent,” Oubi tries to forge alliances to strengthen them against the coming Great Cataclysm. He’s able to get one captain plus another captain and their whole team to pledge their support. But though Hibana arrived with her report on the doppelgangers, the 8th feared they still weren’t ready. Meanwhile, Shou had sensed Shinra’s attempt to communicate through the Adolla Link. He didn’t know why, but he wanted to find out. Many of the White Clad tried to block his escape, until only Arrow remained between him and the outside. Can Shou elude her? Will she alert the other White Clads? And where’d that little rat-like creature come from?
Note: This post may include spoilers, so be cautious.
Favorite Quote from Fire Force Season 3 Episode 10
Honestly, I think that Charon could say that to pretty much everyone. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I’ve had a hard time hating all the White Clads. Haumea, maybe. She’s fairly evil. Inca counts as chaotic evil, certainly. But others like Arrow seem to be more trapped than anything. And BTW? I’m very happy to see Arrow sticking with Shou (see below).
But another character I can’t hate is Charon. He seems to be in this for ideological reasons. Sure, there’s the whole “the entire planet’s gonna die” aspect, but I still can’t help but respect the guy. I think it goes back to how he fought against Shinra back when, and how he sees Haumea. I respect the fatherly instinct.
That fatherly instinct gave me my favorite quote in this episode.
Shou was trying to unobtrusively exit the Nether. But he kept running into pretty much everyone. He even ran into Charon. Instead of just letting him pass by, he had to give Shou head-pats, like he would a child.
“Hey, Sho!” Charon said happily (01:50). “You’re as short as ever today.”
At first, I thought Shou would be offended. But he just shrugged it off! Guess he’s used to it by now.
Favorite Moment from Fire Force Season 3 Episode 10
It might not sound like a big change. But her making the choice makes all the difference in the world. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Choosing Between Iris and Arrow
Hey, am I the only one who had got strong Soul Eater/Excalibur vibes from Schop? Even Shinra’s expression at Schop going on and on and on about his nonsense story looked just like the expression that Death the Kid and Black☆Star used to give Excalibur.
I’m also reminded that reader Dawnstorm commented back in episode 5 that there might be a link. That looked way too similar to be a coincidence. Though it might not mean what I think it means. Still, it’s fun to think about.
For my favorite moment, I almost chose Iris’s mischief as she tried to play matchmaker. I got a feeling she has her eyes on Shinra and didn’t want Hibana to have him. Or maybe she felt like the 8th needed some kind of distraction. Whatever happened, I loved Vulcan’s and Lisa’s exchange about it:
Vulcan said (10:07), “The sister smiles like an angel as she stirs up chaos.” To which Lisa replied, “Innocent types are scary.”
These two are often on the same wavelength. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Vulcan and Lisa make a good couple.
Anyway, my favorite moment deals with Arrow. I’ve liked her since her tank battle against Hinawa back in the first season’s episode 20. In this episode, we had an amusing string of events where Shou kept running into people as he tried to saunter out of the Nether. He managed to get past everyone. Everyone except Arrow.
Arrow asked him to come with her to the last mass. She thought he’d want to be there. It got to the point where Shou flat out told her to lead him outside – or he’d kill her.
Delivery: Arrow Decides to Follow Her Own Path
I figured she’s rat him out. Maybe do something to draw attention. Indeed, that’s the direction I thought she was going when she said (03:01), “I am a Guardian.” But then she said, “I could never betray you, Captain.”
See, I’m a sucker for at least one or two of the baddies to get redeemed. Not sure why. It’s just a trope I enjoy. So I really like this direction. From my perspective, it got even better. She explained she’d always protect him, no matter what. Shou didn’t necessarily want that. Dude just wanted to see his brother.
But then Shou did something cool. He said he realized he and Arrow were alike. They’d existed only to serve the Evangelist. Now, he wanted to do something on his own. He wanted to commit an act of freedom. He suggested she should do the same thing.
I don’t think Arrow understood why he threatened her, given her devotion. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
So she did. She went down on one knee and said (03:50), “Fulfilling my duty is an act of my own will. Your safety is my happiness. Serving you is my reason for living, my everything.”
Okay, it’s a bit one-sided. But for Arrow, given where she’s been, for her to make that statement of her own free will was cool – simply because it was her own free will. That’s important, you know? Freedom is important. That’s why I liked his moment: because it amounted to Arrow beginning to live life as she wanted to. Even if that choice was to protect Shou.
What did you think of Schop’s story? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
