Fire Force Season 3 Episode 2 – Quick Summary
In Fire Force Season 3 episode 2, “Prisoner,” Hinawa knew he had to take his people into hiding. Trouble was, he was terrible at it. He managed to get them into a nearly deserted neighborhood. They were able to hide their matchbox. That’s when Viktor Licht made a shocking offer. Can Hinawa afford to say no? What are the consequences? And how long do they have before the White Clads plant an Infernal insect into Akitaru Oubi?

Favorite Quote from Fire Force Season 3 Episode 2
A man’s got to know his limitations, and Shinra knows his. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Another episode, another wealth of quotes to choose from. Good heavens, I missed this series!
Shinra and Joker were on their way to the Fuchu Penitentiary (which turns out to be a real place!) to rescue Oubi. They had what I thought was an illuminating discussion (see my favorite moment below). Good stuff. Made me wish it’d go on longer, because I loved their honest exchange of perspectives.
But it had to come to an end. Joker closed his piece by saying that if push came to shove, he’d protect Shinra.
That seemed to sting Shinra’s pride. With a fierce grin, he said he’d take care of himself, even against a dreadnought like Leonardo Burns. That made Joker laugh.
“Yeah? With that spirit, you think you can take down Benimaru, too?” Joker asked (21:53).
Shinra lost his grin. He said (21:57), “Not a chance.”
I love how Shinra is confident, but not stupid. That appeals to me in a hero.
Favorite Moment from Fire Force Season 3 Episode 2
Joker’s been consistent since day 1. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: An Embarrassment of Riches
We got to touch base with a lot of high-firepower character this week. Ogun Montgomery saw straight through the media’s lies (we need more Ogun’s in the world!). Hibana’s still backing the 8th, but from the shadows. And Benimaru Shinmon, who might be the most powerful person we’ve met? He is seriously displeased with what’s going on.
Talk about hints of conflict to come!
This show makes it hard to choose a single favorite quote or favorite moment. After three seasons where Ireviewed shows that turned out not to resonate with me, watching a series that is, frankly, so delightful feels almost decadent.
It was great seeing characters like Hibana again. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Moments like Arthur seeing a lizard scurry across their path and saying (19:15), “A dragon child, I see. As it is but a child, I will let it go.” Then immediately getting lost in a dragon-slaying fantasy. As the rest of them kept going, Tamaki_Kotatsu had to call back (19:38), “Don’t blame us if you get left behind again!”
Again. Apparently, this isn’t the first time Arthur got lost in his own world.
How about the sign above Joker’s hideout? The sign that read, “Secret Base.” How hilarious is that?
Or the sheer badassery as Shinra and Joker arrived in the penitentiary. Joke said (22;33), “Let’s go play hero.” As the smoke from their forced entry subsided, Shinra corrected him by saying, “I’m not playing. I’m a real hero.”
That’s just solid, heroic, entertaining stuff.
Delivery: Joker and Shinra as Allies
But my favorite moment is about Joker and Shinra. I’ve always like Joker’s character. Him fighting alongside Benimaru was a blast. Now, he’s fighting beside the 8th; or them beside him. The key is they’re on the same side. Joke always knew it; Shinra just figured it out.
They’d talked a while about perspective – how Shinra was coming to understand the world as Joker saw it. Finally, seeming to struggle to accept what was happening, Shinra said (20:16), “I never imagined I’d be teaming up with you.”
Shinra was surprised things turned out this way. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Joker’s answer brought the first two seasons into focus when he said (20:20), “I’ve been giving you encouragement since the Rookie Games, haven’t I? It was always going to turn out like this. Took much longer than expected, actually.”
He’s right. I remember the Rookie Games. I remember his interactions before. While watching this episode, I could just imagine myself in Shinra’s position saying something like, “Of all the people I’ve interacted with, there’re a handful who never lied to me. And you’re among ‘em.”
Joker fits his role in this narrative with precision. He’s the perfect hidden guide for Shinra, and he’s the perfect ally to take into the upcoming fight in the penitentiary. I gotta say that I’m really looking forward to it!
What did you think of Oubi’s dedication to fitness? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to share in the comments!
