Fire Force Season 3 Episode 3 – Quick Summary
In Fire Force Season 3 episode 3, “Incarnation of Flame,” Shinra and Joker closed in on their confrontation with Burns. Will they be able to break through their old ally and find Oubi? Meanwhile, Hinawa leads his team to perform their own search for Oubi. Who will they face? Will they have any better luck? And where’s Arthur?

Favorite Quote from Fire Force Season 3 Episode 3
They had a good recovery. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I like this show’s sense of humor. It’s not afraid to use humor, even in tense situations. Sometimes it pays off, and sometimes (particularly if Tamaki is involved), it can fall flat. But in this episode, I thought the humor hit more often than not. My favorite quote is a good example.
Gold led two of her minions on a search for Hinawa and his team. And before I go on, can I just saw that the White Clads have a delightfully esoteric set of villains? They made such a lasting impression. Gold’s distinctive way of talking made a strong impression on me. So did the insights we got into her ethics. She’s a strange one – and I like that in a villain.
Anyway. She was leading her minions on a search for where Hinawa would break in. She came up on an enormous wall – strong, enduring. Looked impossible to get through.
Gold said (15:31), “This wall. They cannot enter here.”
Of course, seconds later, Hinawa blasted his way in. To which one of the minions said (15:59), “That was a good setup, Gold.”
Not quite as good as Saki Hanajima challenging the fourth wall. Still, I laughed.
Favorite Moment from Fire Force Season 3 Episode 3
This guy was wound up. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: A Smorgasbord of Options
I am not sure which I laughed at the most: Arthur falling out of the truck, him just laying there afterward, or the entire team not realizing until they needed him. Tell you what, though – it’s a perfect plot device. Now, Arthur can show up whenever or wherever they need! And when he does, we can be sure he’s in a world all of his own.
I also had to laugh when Hinawa tried to turn rebel. “Shut up,” he said to them from the back of the truck (11:59). We’re rebels now! We can lean out of car windows or whatever else we want!”
Truly, a rebel among men.
He sounded very convincing. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
My favorite moment was almost a throw-away. But for someone with my background, and as someone living in the insanity that is the US culture right now, it hit hard. And it’s all my fault.
See, I have a degree in theology. I take that stuff seriously. To set the context, I’m not going weekly to any church. All of them – read this carefully, because it’s essential for my next point – all of them have disappointed me. I am an Aristotelian Thomist, which suggests I’m Catholic. Which, theologically I am. It’ll take more space than I have to explain why I don’t practice anymore (and I won’t even joke about practicing enough that I’ve gotten good at it).
Key takeaway? I’m no stranger to theological concepts. Specifically, I’m no stranger to Western Christian thought. Though I’ll give a shout out to all of you, regardless of what you believe, if you are doing the best you can with what you’ve got. I’m on your side, if push comes to shove. And it has. But that’s not what I want to talk about right now.
Delivery: Church Lady Agrees with Karim Flam (Ironically)
Here’s my favorite moment. Karim Flam was seriously pissed off. He vented to fellow 1st Special Fire Brigade member Foien Li. What he said spoke to the professional catechist in me (yeah – I trained to be a theology teacher).
The White Clads had stated their goal. They wanted to turn the Earth into a sun. That did not sit well with Karim Flam. How do I know? Because he said (09:52), “Turn this planet into a sun? No matter how many times, or how major, a Great Cataclysm they trigger on this Earth, there’s no way this planet’ll turn into a sun! With that kind of logic, they’re no better than a cult! And they expect us to believe ’em?”
The punchline? He’s a religious guy! The 1st Special Fire Brigade is known for that!
That, right there, is truth. How to boil this down? If someone wants your money, or your obedience, or your paying obedience (that’s the kind of times we live in), they’ll tell you, “Dude! Those ‘scientists’ will try to tell you there’s no God! You can’t trust them! But if you give me all your money, I’ll make sure you know what God wants from you.”
I’m paraphrasing. They usually say 10%, not “all.” But that’s beside the point.
Look. All I’m saying is that humans are easily fooled, if the attacker comes in from certain angles. And clear-thinking is a good defense against that kind of thing. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I am both sick and tired of people saying they know what God wants for us while they disobey every single public teaching of said God. How can you ever have read a single word in the scripture they purport to believe in when ever action results in the opposite? And, hey, doesn’t “anti” mean “opposite?”
What’s the opposite of the Christ? Jessh. Makes me think they got their theology from Church Lady (I didn’t want to come out and say “anti-christ”; that would be gauche) . Except it’s worse than that. They’ve been tricked. They’re hurting themselves as much as everyone they’ve declared an enemy. And all it took to remind me of that was watching Karim Flam go off on the White Clads.
Guess I have to conclude that’s a pretty good example of art holding up a mirror to reality!
What did you think of seeing the Soul Eater moon again? What were your favorite moments? Please feel free to let me know in the comments!
