Fire Force Season 3 Episode 6 – Quick Summary
In Fire Force Season 3 episode 6, “Beyond Prayer’s End,” Shinra decided that he had waited long enough and launched an all-out attack against Leonardo Burns. As both their flames became hotter and hotter, so did their rhetoric. Burns preached about the status quo. Shinra strove to be a protecting hero. Which flame will prove the hotter? And what’s Dragon doing with the rest of the 8th Special Fire Brigade?

Favorite Quote from Fire Force Season 3 Episode 6
Burns has his own agenda. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I wasn’t sure what Burns was really up to. Did he honestly supported Haumea and her insane desire to burn Earth down? Or did he secretly supported Shinra, though Haumea’s power should have meant that was not possible?
It turns out the story went somewhere I didn’t really expect. That’s reflected in my favorite quote from the episode. It was the moment that Burns let us know where he really stood.
He and Shinra had gone back and forth, trading flaming punches and kicks and bits of their personal philosophy. The latter, by the way, is one of the reasons I like this series. I mean, without a philosophical foundation, what’s the point?
Anyway. Burns told Shinra he had basically taken on the world. Shinra retorted that that’s all he had left. He taunted Burns by asking if he would prefer the young folks him Shinra just shut up and obeyed.
The question seemed to shock Burns.
“Do I look like a man who would despise such things?” he asked (10:56). “Don’t think you know me! I would gladly welcome that!
It might be another misdirection. But I have a sense this is what Burns really thought. Didn’t quite expect things to go that way, and that’s why it’s my favorite quote.
Favorite Moment from Fire Force Season 3 Episode 6
Viktor’s completely re-evaluating his relationship with Iris! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
For a minute, there, I thought Maki was dead.
She had stepped in front of Dragon’s attack with the intention of shielding the rest of the 8th. After Dragon unleashed his attack, Maki knew she was in trouble. The attack was so powerful, so overwhelming, that she knew she was about to die.
Then we got a shot that lasted about a second. I had to rewind it to see what I’d missed. It was an outline of Iris.
Dragon’s attack ran its course. It obliterated the architecture all around the 8th. But the 8th, seemingly shielded by Maki’s defense, had survived.
The only one more shocked than the 8th about their own survival was Maki herself. All of them were giddy; all of them had sensed the power in the attack and just knew they were about to die. Even as they thanked and congratulated her, she couldn’t believe what had just happened.
Maki felt very surprised to still be alive. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Dragon wondered aloud if he had just witnessed divine Grace.
My favorite moment? In the back of the 8th’s formation, Iris blew out a sigh of relief and tried to pretend that she was oh-so-glad that Maki had protected them. But check out the expression on Viktor Licht’s face. He knew Maki had done nothing. He knew the truth.
Somehow, Iris herself had stopped the attack. And the implications completely freaked him out (20:33).
Now I have to reevaluate everything I thought I knew about Iris. I have to think about Hibana’s research into doppelgangers. I have to think about what the attack on the convent where Hibana and Iris lived means. In other words, I get to be delighted as the show gives me a twist I wasn’t expecting, but that makes good sense based on what it’s shown me before. I think I need to have more plot twists like this in the books I write. What did you think of totally-not-Benimaru Shinmon’s arrival at the end? What were your favorite moments?
