Fire Force Season 3 Episode 7 – Quick Summary

In Fire Force Season 3 episode 7, “Sleeping Truth,” Haumea instantly recognized the newcomer as Benimaru Shinmon, captain of the 7th Special Fire Brigade. Though the individual attacks the White Clads launched against him had little effect, quantity has its own quality. And there are lot of heavy hitters present, like Haumea herself. Can even Benimaru win this fight? How’s Shinra doing? And how long can Akitaru Oubi keep flexing?

Fire Force Season 3 Episode 7: At least Maki enjoyed herself!

Maki seems to be enjoying herself! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

The 8th Special Fire Brigade were on the ropes. Only Iris’s surprise action as a Pillar saved them. But when White Clad reinforcements showed up, it looked dark. Benimaru showed up just in time.

But Benimaru couldn’t defeat the White Clads all by himself. He could easy parry their individual attacks. Even Dragon couldn’t defeat him. But staying and fighting wasn’t an option. So Benimaru used his standards as escape vehicles for the members of the 8th.

As Oubi prepared to remove Shinra from the field of battle, you could see the other members of the 8th streaking away. Someone (I think Vulcan) expressed amazement they were so high in the air. Tamaki just screamed. But one member of the 8th clearly enjoyed herself.

As she straddled the standard, Maki, a big grin on her face, said (05:18), “”I feel like I’ve become an actual witch!”

Glad to see someone could enjoy themselves!

Fire Force Season 3 Episode 7: Hibana's realization destroyed her vision of her childhood

This had to be a terrible moment for her. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Setup

Remember when Oubi carried a nearly unconscious Shinra from the field of battle? Shinra tattered on the edge of unconsciousness. He had seriously looked up to Burns, but he’d had to watch the man (apparently) die. Poor guy was having an awful day. But he found comfort in Oubi’s strength. Glad to see something so wholesome. Shinra needs all the support he can get right now.

Hibana could certainly use some support right now. The scenes dramatizing her search for the truth about doppelgangers built tension and anticipation. Did you notice the child-like quality of the drawings that depicted Hibana’s memories? They cast a feeling of innocence, didn’t they?

Fire Force Season 3 Episode 7: The drawings of Hibana's memories were idyllic

They were such pleasant drawings! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Hibana was the perfect character for this reveal. She’s powerful. She’s confident. Hibana would find it a challenge to defend herself against a charge of arrogance. But more than that, she’s determined.

I never remember her being rattled. Even during a life and death battle, like the one back in season 1 episode 17, seemed to amuse her more than make her anxious or scared. In this episode, though, things for real for her.

Delivery

Did you see her begin to sweat when she began to suspect the truth (20:28)? She had tried to deny what the facts told her. But Karim Flam’s observations that all the books in the hidden, underground library were about “mundane things.” That’s when it seemed to click in her mind.

The three meals the sisters had served them – all grown from local vegetables. The act of growing those vegetables. She began panting with the effort of watching her mind put all the pieces in place. Everything she had believed in; the foundation of her life; her innocent time spent with Iris and the other girls.

Fire Force Season 3 Episode 7: Hibana knew she would not like what she was about to read

She knew she wouldn’t like what she’d find. But she kept searching. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Hibana herself found the last piece. She found the cookbook. Recalling the meals they had shared – meals she now knew were infested with Infernal Bug larvae or parts (or something – I’m still a bit hazy on that part), she nearly retched (21:27).

That was the moment of maximum stress. The narrative pulled her past out from under her. Hibana had to face the truth that she had been at ground zero for the spread of the Infernals. And she had her fellow sisters had been the experimental fodder to bring it about.

Did you notice that the child-like drawing had a canvas-like texture? That was a nice detail.
