Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 Episode 17 – Quick Summary
In Fire Force Season 3 part 2 episode 17, “At the Center of the World,” Shinra, Iris, and Shou have disappeared. Special Fire Company Eight is in a panic at their loss. But there’s even more bad news: Amaterasu is off-line, and Tokyo is in darkness. While discussing what to do next, Arrow suddenly shows up. Is she friend or foe? Where did their friends go? And what’s their next move?

Favorite Quote from Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 Episode 17
Arrow has a specific point of view. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I’m one of those bizarre people who like redemption arcs. It’s probably because I’m also one of those people who, despite my every attempt to fix it, am still optimistic.
Yeah, I’m embarrassed about it, too.
I say that because I want to see Arrow redeem herself. I think it’s partly because of the good I see in her via her utter dedication to Shou. She’d lay down her life to keep that kid safe. I respect that.
That’s one reason for recognizing one of her quotes as my favorite.
When Arrow popped in among the people of the Eighth, Tamaki voiced reasonable concerns – like Arrow blowing off Captain Huo Yan’s arm.
“Now, when the fate of the world hangs in the balance,” Arrow said (05:28), “what is the worth of one arm? This is not the time for such grievances.”
The other reason? I admire the stark honestly in that statement. One might even call it brutal. I’ll take that over platitudes any day and twice on Sunday.
Favorite Moment from Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 Episode 17
Ogun retained the strength to issue a final taunt. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Ogun’s Moment to Shine
Wow! Ogun Montgomery sure got his chance to shine in this episode, didn’t he? I could nit-pick and say I would have rathered the narrative spread the revelations of his team-oriented character over the previous seasons, but this is Fire Force. It’s kinda flash-back heavy. Not as bad as some shows, but still…
My favorite moment is all about Ogun’s fight with Charon. Among the White Clad who remain clearly villains, I think Charon’s my favorite. The dude’s there to protect Haumea. She’s on a course that’ll wreck all life on Earth, and of course that’s a negative. But the desire to protect is something I understand.
Ogun had nothing to be ashamed of in terms of his performance. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
We know how powerful Charon is, so when Ogun challenged him, I knew we were in for a slugfest. But in the back of the writer part of my mind, I had to wonder: the show just harped on team-work. So, how was this fight going to develop?
Ogun gave it his best shot. He even staggered Charon at one point, and we know that’s not easily done. But the battle went the only way a one-on-one battle with Charon could go.
Ogun ended up on his back.
Delivery: Teams Shine Brighter than Individuals
But the guy’s tough, right? He’s not staying down. He had to use his flame powers even to remain upright. Charon respected him, though. Even as he picked up Ogun by his head, he said as much. But even as Charon powered up for what would likely be the killing blow, Ogun spoke.
“I am not alone,” he said (21:58). “Fire soldiers are a team.””
Lets pause for a moment. Want to know how effective is the writing of Atsushi Ohkubo, the author of Fire Force? I paused the video and asked myself who would come to Ogun’s aid. The writer had crafted his characters with such care that I could use their traits to guess who would help. My candidates? Maki was my leading guess, as the most effective at close quarters combat. I also considered Oubi, based on pure brute strength.
No way he was going to miss at that range. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
But Atsushi Ohkubo was one step ahead of me. Neither of those took advantage of Charon’s focus on Ogun. It was Hinawa, hero of the tank battle of episode 20, He blew off a chunk of Charon’s side. Even in the world of anime fights, that’s gotten sting.
Teamwork made the dreamwork. Now I need to wait another week to see if Charon recovers. And we still don’t know what happened to Shinra, Iris, and Shou!
What did you think of the flashback scenes with Ogun, Arthur, and Shinra? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
