Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 Episode 19 – Quick Summary

In Fire Force Season 3 part 2 episode 19, “Those Who Fight Back,” Giovanni advanced on the door to Amaterasu’s inner sanctum while Lisa and Vulcan watched, helpless. Meanwhile, the rest of the Eighth could not get past Charon to come to their aid. With a seemingly unlimited supply of Infernals raging against them, does the Eighth have any hope of breaking through? Even if they do, isn’t it too late, given how Giovanni is to victory? And what’s Haumea up to, anyway?

Favorite Quote from Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 Episode 19

Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 Episode 19: Tamaki asked a reasonable question

I think her question was reasonable. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

For most of the first half of the episode, Joker watched the world burn. It’s not like he enjoyed it. But there wasn’t a ton he could do about it. He used his time to figure things out.

By the time the end of of the episode had rolled around, he had a handle on things. He showed up just as all of the Eighth reunited on the surface. He explained that despair was the factor driving the flames.

Viktor Licht used his science smarts to put the pieces together. He got all excited and said (21:02), “So the image of despair is important to kickstarting the Great Catalyst! It’s a total shocker!”

That’s not my favorite quote. My favorite quote is Tamaki’s quite reasonable reaction.

Tamaki said (21:10), “Then that means… What does that mean?”

I like it when one character calls out another’s lack of clarity. It helps me understand that the lack was intentional – and not the result of me having zoned out at a key moment!

Favorite Moment from Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 Episode 19

Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 Episode 19: Arthur has good aim

Arthur’s pretty handy with that thing. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

Things looked bad for Yuu. At the end of the previous episode, that rat bastard (isn’t that a cool derogatory phrase?) Giovanni had possessed the young man. Equipped with the key to open Amaterasu’s inner sanctuary, Giovanni was poised to unleash total destruction on the world.

With Giovanni having injected his tiny insect self into Yuu’s head, I figured things were over for our little friend. Turns out, there is actually a way to deal with such a thing. All you need to do is conceive the impossible.

Which is a job for Arthur

Just as Giovanni/Yuu was about to enter the inner sanctum, Arthur showed up. Turns out he’d done all the things and considered his “EXP maxed out.” In other words, in his own imagination, he was really, really capable.

So capable, in fact, that he saw Giovanni’s form within Yuu.

“People like you, who only look at the surface and make a fuss, will leave nothing behind and will know nothing,” Arthur said, preparing his sword (17:16). “Begone, you cowardly, vulgar insect!”

Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 Episode 19: Vulcan wasn't sure Yuu had survived

At first, Vulcan wasn’t sure that Arthur had actually spared Yuu. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.

At which point he lunged and used his plasma blade to skewer Giovanni. Just Giovanni. Arthur left Yuu’s brain tissue intact. And wasn’t it cool to see Giovanni finally killed? He was such a pain!

Of course, Vulcan and Lisa were super grateful. So was Yuu! But Arthur took their praise in stride. It was just another day for the king knight!
