Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 Episode 25: Favorites – Quick Summary
In Fire Force Season 3 part 2 episode 25, “Hero’s Tale,” Shinra, Shou, and Mari had fought hard. Achieved much. But there was one thing they could not defeat: Haumea’s despair. With it still active and running amok, the world remained in danger. Humans could once again long for death – and that, Shinra had to avoid at all costs. Can Shinra come up with a way to defeat that despair?

Inca has an interesting approach to life. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I’ve linked Inca since we first met her. She’s a wild card; she’s insane. She’s completely unhinged. There might be something deeply wrong with me, but I love those traits if they’re well executed.
Which they are, here.
When Shinra re-fashioned the world (which is a pretty cool concept in and of itself), the souls of Inca, Iris, Amaterasu, and Sumire had to decide: would they live or die? The scene of Amaterasu saying goodbye to Iris felt touching, especially since it was a good-bye: Iris wanted to live, and Amaterasu didn’t. Sumire didn’t want to live, either. But Inca?
As soon as Iris showed back up in the world of the living, she greeted Shinra. He was more than a little relieved to see her. But before they could talk at all, Inca inserted herself and said that she was there, too.
Shinra, being a benevolent demi-god, thanked her for coming back to life.
“I gave death a try, but it wasn’t all that interesting,” she said (09:31).
See, that attitude right there is one of the many reasons I love that character.
Favorite Moment from Fire Force Season 3 Part 2 Episode 25
It’s amazing was a lack of despair can do to a person. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: That Was A Helluva Thing
I’m still sitting here freaked out that Fire Force was a canonical predecessor to Soul Eater. And it worked!
Maybe it’s because Soul Eater was one of the few animes I could watch with my wife (strangely, she’s not into the same anime that I am – which probably speaks well of her sanity). Maybe it’s because I watched it years ago and loved it, so it’s almost like anime mythology.
Whatever the reason, I actually teared up when we say little Maka sitting her her parents (so that’s what her mom looked like!), and Death the Kid being fashioned (no wonder he looked like Shinra!), and little Soul making his appearance or little Black☆Star practicing in the woods.
That Fire Force fit so perfectly still astonishes me. That it flowed right into Soul Eater, even more so. And now, I want to see Soul Eater get the same treatment that Full Metal Alchemist and Full Metal Alchemist – Brotherhood got.
Haven’t seen Blair for a while! Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
And how about Inca just introducing herself as one of Shinra’s girlfriends? Dude had a chance there to make the world a better place. Instead, he decided not to buy into Inca’s vision (though one of the kids at the end sure did look like Inca’s daughter). Does this mean that it’s all Shinra’s fault that the witches in Soul Eater stir up trouble? If he’d just settled into his own harem, might he have spared Soul Eater from Medusa?
And oh, yeah, it was great seeing Blair make a cameo (03:21)!
Honestly, with all of these delightful moments, I had a helluva time picking one as my favorite. But I’m going to go with my gut. My favorite moment was Shinra playing dirty.
Delivery: Shinra Plays for Keeps
Haumea, as the Saintess, was about to fall back into despair. But Shinra seemed ready for it. Shinra took advantage of everyone coming back to life. He brought back the one person who could speak to Haumea. The one person she trusted about all others. Shinra brought Charon to the party.
I’ve liked that character since we first met him. Sure, he was a bad guy. But he wasn’t a bad bad guy, if you see what I mean.
Charon slowly approached the despairing Haumea, who had covered her face with that veil that hung from her massive crown. He announced his presence, asked if she still heard the voices. Apparently anticipating that she wouldn’t answer, he went on to say that he had not cared all that much for humanity.
“Your suffering pained me more than the suffering of humanity, after all,” he said (05:11).
Charon was there for Haumea. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Adding that he had tried to hasten the cataclysm to reduce her suffering, he said he ad only one regret: “I wanted to see your smiling face just once” (05:30).
She still gave him no answer. So he lowered the bar and asked just to see her face again.
In a tiny voice, she said (05:53), “This isn’t fair, Shinra Basho Man. Using Charon like this… isn’t fair.”
At which point, she pushed her teary-eyed face through the parted curtains.
Charon, Shinra, Shou, and Mari had the same reaction (06:07); “She’s adorable!”
She was. Without despair crushing her spirit, she was adorable. And in an episode packed full of emotional moments, this one held its own.
What did you think of Maki and Tamaki’s reaction to Oubi’s head flipping back? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to share in the comments!

Well, Excalibur I expected, but that Shinra created Lord Death was a surprise.
I didn’t expect Maka, Soul, or any of the others, either! I guess if I had to articulate what I expected, it would be vague pre-cursors. I had no idea this show ended so near the timeline of Soul Eater!
And of course, now I want a Soul Eater remake!
