Freezing Episode 10 – Quick Summary

In Freezing episode 10, “NOVA Form,” the four Nova do something even more unexpected than showing up in a group of four. They suddenly vanish from the vicinity of East Genetics. Sister Margaret and her lieutenants weren’t fooled. They knew the Nova hadn’t just vanished. But where did they go? The answer came soon, and it wasn’t good news. The nova were back, and they had surrounded West Genetics. With the best students already deployed to East Genetics, only the third years and below were left at West Genetics. And the Nova had more tricks up their sleeves. Can the remaining students successfully fight the Nova – when their front-line troops were so soundly thrashed at East Genetics?

Favorite Quote from Freezing Episode 10

Freezing Episode 10: The ways of the city are strange to Rana

Rana’s imagination seemed to capture at least part of the image. Capture from the Blu Ray.

Rana is a constant source of entertainment. She’s ridiculously powerful, which insulates here from a lot of the condescension some of the women might try to heap on her. After all, she’s from the country, and the ways of the city are strange to her.

I know how she feels. I grew up on a farm, and my first job in big city (well, Columbus, Ohio isn’t that big, but it’s bigger than where I was from!) had some interesting moments because the people there just didn’t make sense to me.

My favorite quote is perfectly in keeping with Rana’s decidedly not-from-the-city background. She, Satellizer, and Ganessa had been ordered to head to the Ravensborne Nucleochede. Rana had no idea what that was.

She also didn’t hear it correctly. Incredulously, she asked Satellizer (16:34), “L-Lesbian nude cheetah?! What is that?”

Well, at least she asked. That’s better than not knowing, right?

Favorite Moment from Freezing Episode 10

Freezing Episode 10: Kazuya put himself between Satellizer and Rana

Kazuya showed real courage and trust putting himself between them. It’d be like confronting a speeding locomotive! Two of them, actually. Capture from the Blu Ray.

Setup: Rana Needled Satellizer

Rana continues to be a delight to watch. She is absolutely focused on getting Kazuya to be her Limiter. Kazuya and Satellizer were more or less having a lover’s spat, and Rana gave them some space. But when it seemed like Satellizer was about to walk away, Rana had to push the issue and ask if Satellizer would admit she’d been beaten.

It was to the point where I had to wonder: was she thinking strategically? Did she realize how potent Kazuya and Satellizer would be, and she was trying to force them together? Turns out that wasn’t the case. Rana was just being assertive. But she did set up my favorite moment.

Freezing Episode 10: Rana did not waste an opportunity

Rana must have some kind of stealth ability. She just popped in out of nowhere! Capture from the Blu Ray.

I hate misunderstandings that fester. Satellizer had misunderstood Kazuya’s conversion with Arthur and Kaho Hiiragi. I was afraid that misunderstanding would persist. It didn’t but it gave Rana a chance to pounce.

Rana had to know that there was no way Satellizer would back down. So she must have been itching to fight her. They circled each other. Rana seemed to be looking for an opening, or a way to make one. Satellizer was just waiting for her moment to thunder into.

They charged each other.

Delivery: Kazuya Uses Reason – It was Super Effective!

I think Kazuya showed both real bravery and trust in those two women, because he charged right in between them. Justifying his trust, they froze.

“A fight like this isn’t why you became Pandora – — isn’t why you’re here — is it?!,” he said angrily (07:47).

He didn’t try any fancy rhetoric. He just laid out the situation as he saw it. Satellizer and Rana both needed just about a second to realize he was right. He gave some more reasons; he invoked the memory of his sister. But he’d made his point.

Freezing Episode 10: Satellizer knew Kazuya was right.

Satellizer knew Kazuya was right. Capture from the Blu Ray.

What struck me about this moment was his trust in them; and their trust in him. If they were like some of the other Pandora we’ve met, say, for example, Arnett, their focus would have been on the conflict between them, with Kazuya just a prize. Instead, they acted like people who actually had some feelings for each other.

Yep. My bar’s that low. If a character shows basic human empathy? I consider it a fantasy element.
