Freezing Episode 12 – Quick Summary
In Freezing episode 12, “Satellizer vs. Pandora,” Satellizer, Ganessa, and Rana faced off against the Nova-fied version of Cathy Lockharte, while Chiffon Fairchild and Ticy Phenyl stood between another foe and the Ravensborne Nucleochede and its precious contents. The battle seemed to be going their way. Could they prevail against the turned Pandora? Or was this all according to the Nova’s plans?

Favorite Quote from Freezing Episode 12
Ganessa knew what she was getting in to – which made her quote all the more admirable. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Even when I watched this series for the first time, I had a feeling that Ganessa wasn’t quite as self-centered and arrogant as she acted. I think it was how kindly she (usually) treated Arthur, her Limiter. She also didn’t show a tenth of the cruelty toward Kazuya that some of the other Pandora did.
And then there was the easy camaraderie she showed with Rana in the previous episode, during my favorite quote. That certainly wasn’t the attitude I’d expect from, say, Attia or Arnett demonstrated pretty much every chance they got.
That’s why I really enjoyed it when Satellizer prepared to take what seemed like Cathy’s mortal strike. Satellizer was prepared – and then Ganessa threw herself in front of the blast. The blast was so strong it blew Ganessa’s arm off.
Satellizer, astonished, could only stare when Ganessa half turned and asked her (03:02), “Are you… alive? Miss… Second-ranked?”
It was a very Ganessa thing to say.

Setup: Satellizer Deserved Better
I’d forgotten something about this episode. There was a lot I liked, but there was one moment I want to mention as a big disappointment. It was after Satellizer had landed the killing blow on the Nova – which was a very cool moment. Of course, the resulting explosion blew off half her clothes (which is not at all part of the show’s appeal, which is what I’d say in opposite world). She landed on top of Kazuya (earning another “of course”).
So far, so good. But when she sat up, her top fell down, exposing her breasts. Okay, again, it’s that kind of show. So far, no real harm done. But then she screams in embarrassment, and everyone laughs.
Now, I think I’ve demonstrated by now that I’m no prude. But a) Satellizer survived sexual trauma, and nothing she did during the series deserved that kind of cruelty and b) the show missed a huge opportunity.
I’m going to pretend that this scene ended here. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Satellizer had just learned the Power of Friendship (through Ganessa) and the Power of Emotional Intimacy (with Kazuya). If I had been writing that scene, she would have realized she just exposed herself to all present. Then, I could see the scene playing one of two ways. First, she could have slowly, with dignity, covered her breasts with her forearm. Or second, she would have picked up Kazuya (because, let’s face it, she’s more than strong enough), and covered herself by hugging him.
The whole let’s-laugh-at-Satellizer-humiliation blunted the scene’s impact for me.
Anyway. This moment had some cool moments. Chiffon and Ticy winning their battle was cool. Satellizer punching the Nova-controlled Cathy in the face worked dramatically. Satellizer realizing that she was becoming a Nova and telling Kazuya to killer her was really cool – it showed she was willing to go to great lengths to keep everyone, particularly Kazuya, safe.
Delivery: Fortunately, Satellizer Had Her Moment
My favorite moment was a team effort between the show’s two stars, Satellizer and Kazuya. No, it’s not the scene at the end where Satellizer and Rana strip to win Kazuya’s heart (dude needs to man up with those two around), though that moment had its appear. No, my favorite moment was more dramatic.
Satellizer thought that Cathy’s explosion had killed Ganessa. Satellizer went berserk. She beat the tar out of Cathy. She even ripped the evil Stigmata out of Cathy’s chest – turning Cathy back into a normal (though severely injured) human in the process.
Cathy pleaded for death. Still consumed by grief and rage, Satellizer prepared to grant her wish.
Satellizer ripped the evil Stigmata from Cathy’s chest. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Now, keep in mind that in that moment, Satellizer was the most powerful creature Kazuya had ever encountered. Even knowing that, he trusted her enough to throw his arms around her from behind. He tried to reason with her.
“No!” Kazuya screamed (07:25). “She has her consciousness back. She’s not a Nova anymore!”
For the first time, Kazuya had done what he had hoped to do all season – he functioned as Satellizer’s Limiter. That probably wasn’t the way he’d planned; but it worked. Satellizer channeled her rage – she couldn’t stop launching the attack, but she plunged the blade into the ground beside Cahty’s head.
I liked seeing those two work together. Even better, I like how it felt like both of them had worked hard to get ready for that moment. It flowed from the action, and it flowed from who they had become by this point in the series. Dramatically, I thought it was a satisfying conclusion to the season’s emotional arc.
What did you think of the final battle against the Nova? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
