Freezing Episode 8 – Quick Summary
In Freezing episode 8, “Pandora Queen,” Kazuya woke up in the hospital. Again. This time, both Satellizer and Rana were there to greet him. His first concern – whether they would start a battle right there and then over who was to nurse him back to health – paled in comparison to a bigger threat: Attia had still not given up on her plans to take retribution against Satellizer. What did the diminutive Pandora plan next for Satellizer and Kazuya?

What does Chiffon mean by “this time?” Capture from the Blu Ray.
It was almost time for the Pandora beauty pageant to get started. If you think a beauty pageant is a strange thing to hold at a school to teach combat, I gotta say – I’m right there with you. It seems like those two things don’t go together!
Interestingly, it seems like the narrative agrees with us.
The pageant was about to start. Two members of the facility, Yumi Kim and Elise Schmitz, sat in a nearby room overlooking the event. Sipping wine, they were joined by Chiffon and Ticy Phenyl. Both stood nearby.
As all four looked out at the emcee got the pageant underway, Chiffon said, her voice wistful (10:11), “I hope it concludes without incident this time…”
So, it seems like even the Pandora wondered if this is a good idea!
Favorite Moment from Freezing Episode 8
Rana’s almost painfully positive! Capture from the Blu Ray.
Setup: That Was a Lot of Fanservice
You know, I feel like I should object to the equivalent of a beach episode, especially since it’s main purpose is to showcase the physical beauty of the Pandora. I feel like maybe I should try to justify it by pointing out how Kazuya used his freezing power to its widest extent so far, which will obviously have ramifications.
But here’s the thing: I had no problem with the fanservice in this episode. On the contrary. I’d say it was well-executed. I did roll my eyes at Attia’s lack of confidence regarding her bust size (I mean, really – if she had the same measurements as Satellizer, the girl couldn’t even stand). Also, I felt very bad for the stunt Attia pulled against Satellizer.
I rolled my eyes at this moment. But then decided to include it as a screen capture. That probably say something about me. Capture from the Blu Ray.
But seeing Rana’s outfit? Seeing how Ganessa embraced her nickname as “The Angel of Confinement?” I found very little to complain about.
That said, I had very little I could point to and say it rose to the level of favorite moment. I mean, sure, I enjoyed Kazuya coming to Satellizer’s rescue – though I would have preferred she embraced her beauty and stalked off stage on her own. Kauzya could still have frozen the audience as the two of them dashed off. But there was one other moment that I appreciated.
Delivery: Rana Takes the High Road – Again
It was just before Satellizer was about to go on stage. She sat, huddled and overwhelmed, as Kazuya tried to comfort her. Rana bounced up in her revealing outfit and was about to rush on stage. Rana asked Kazuya about Satellizer being there at all, and Kazuya explained Satellizer had risen to Attia’s challenge.
As Rana prepared to go on stage, she took a moment and said (14:20), “Satellizer.”
Surprised, Satellizer looked up at her.
Rana’s subtle support surprised Satellizer. Capture from the Blu Ray.
Rana said, “Honor won by a Pandora is honor shared by her partner, her Limiter, is it not? With that in mind, I could do anything, no matter how hard.”
On one hand, Rana was using the opportunity to show how dedicated she would be to Kauzya, who stood there with them. On the other, Rana framed the situation in a way that Satellizer to get a handle on: as a matter of combat, just in a different form. In other words, Rana was encouraging Satellizer!
Looking back over the many times I’ve watched this series, I realize that I began liking the show even more after Rana entered the picture. Moments like this remind me why!
What did you think of Kazuya’s freezing effect at the end? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
