Review: Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 1 Best In Show
In Fruits Basket Season 2 episode 1, “Hello Again,” Motoko Minagawa lost no time in renewing her war against Tohru Honda. But in addition to Tohru, Motoko had another equally pressing problem. The object of her stalker-like affection, Yuki Souma, was to become the student council president this year. What if the council included young women — young women who might take advantage of the situation and steal Yuki’s affections? The outgoing student council president refused to answer her questions. Desparate to find out, she turned to her friend and fellow Yuki fan club member Rika Aida to break into the student council room. But she was completely unprepared for what she found there.

In Fruits Basket Season 2 episode 2, “Eat Somen with Your Friends,” it was time for Tohru Honda, Yuki Souma, and Kyou Souma to pick their future careers. Yet, all three were very, very reluctant — for different reasons. In a maybe related move, Kazuma Souma, for all intents and purposes Kyou’s adopted father, invited Kyou and Tohru to visit. But just as they were starting to fix lunch, Kazuma received an urgent call — from Kyou’s biological father. He seemed very angry. Why does he want to talk to Kazuma now? Why is he so angry? And what are his hopes and plans for Kyou?
Episode 3: Shall We Go And Get You Changed
Review: Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 3 Best In Show
In Fruits Basket Season 2 episode 3, “Shall We Go and Get You Changed,” Yuki Souma awakens from a bad dream about his mom calling him a tool to a waking nightmare of his brother Ayame’s visit — and promising never to leave Yuki alone again. When Ayame accidentally ripped Yuki’s shirt, he promised to mend it as they sat down to enjoy fresh peaches with Tohru Honda and Shigure Shouma. Ayame must have made an impression on Yuki, though, because Yuki, in a moment of weakness, admitted that he’d like to see his brother’s clothing shop. Ayame was overjoyed! But Yuki began to get second thoughts when Tohru said she wanted to see what kind of store sold both maid and nurses’ uniforms. What awaited Yuki at the store, though, was beyond his wildest imaginings.

Review: Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 4 Best In Show
In Fruits Basket Season 2 episode 4, “I Got Dumped…,” Momiji Souma burst into Tohru Honda’s home room where she, Kyou Souma, Arisa Uotani, and Saki Hanajima were planning their school trip. Well, except that Kyou really wasn’t participating. But Momiji’s news was dire: Hatsuharu ‘Haru’ Souma had manifested his dark self, and he was on a rampage in another classroom. Kyou, Momiji, and Tohru rushed to the classroom, joined by Yuki Souma. When they arrived, they found that Momiji had been right. The classroom was a mess. An unrepentant Haru stood defiant. Will Yuki and Kyou be able to stop him? What will they do when Haru lunges for Tohru? What part did Rin Souma play in all of this — and who the heck is she?
Episode 5: Wait for me, tororo soba!
Review: Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 5 Best In Show
In Fruits Basket Season 2 episode 5, “Wait for me, tororo soba!,” the school year just ended, and Momiji Souma had what he thought was a great idea: take Tohru Honda, Hatsuharu ‘Haru’ Souma, Yuki Souma, and Kyou Souma to a haunted house! It sounded like fun until they realized Tohru wasn’t just scared of haunted houses. She was terrified of them! Can they get her through the attraction in one piece? Meanwhile, while working in the convenience store, Arisa Uotani met a young man who caught her attention. She was disappointed when he didn’t visit again. She counted herself lucky when she saw him wandering through the neighborhood. But he acted in such an unusual way that she actually asked if he were some foreign king! The truth, however, was much different — much, much different.
Episode 6: Are You Really This Stupid?
Review: Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 6 Best In Show
In Fruits Basket Season 2 episode 6, “Are you really this stupid?,” Momiji Souma continued in his role of entertainment director by inviting most of the Shoumas (at least the ones we know) to one of their vacation homes — along with Tohru Honda, of course! After they leave, Shigure Shouma welcomed a surprise guest to his home — a guest who had a shocking request for Shigure! Even as Tohru, Yuki Souma, Hatsuharu ‘Haru’ Souma, Kyou Souma, and others are happily (or not so happily) collected beetles, Shigure showed he was not done withs surprises. His request of Akito Shouma bordered on terrifying in terms of the damage it could unleash. What is Shigure doing? Why is he so calm about it? Does he know something we don’t? Or is he actually someone we expect?
Episode 7: Let’s Start the Watermelon Splitting Contest!
Review: Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 7 Best In Show
In Fruits Basket Season 2 episode 7, “Let’s Start the Watermelon Splitting Contest!,” Shigure Shouma arrives at the vacation home — and he’s not alone. At first, he risks the wrath of both Yuki Souma and Kyou Souma by “jokingly” asking Tohru Honda on a date. But they didn’t yet know the real reason they should be angry with him. Momiji Souma suggested they have a watermelon splitting contest, but he didn’t have a blindfold or staff. Hatsuharu ‘Haru’ Souma tries to get around that limitation by splitting the melon with his bare hands. Inspired by his strength, Tohru tries the same thing. Were her tears from pain or embarrassment? And just who else did Shigure bring with him to the beach?
Episode 8: Dog
Review: Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 8 Best In Show
In Fruits Basket Season 2 episode 8, “Dog,” most of the Souma family went to meet Akito again, which left Tohru Honda and Kyou Souma alone. What did they do to pass the time? At Tohru’s urging, they built a sandcastle! At least, they tried to… Meanwhile, Yuki Souma seemed much emboldened by his conversation with Tohru at the end of the previous episode. So much so that his attitude was almost imperial when he demanded that Kyou not fight with Akito to avoid making trouble for Tohru. Is Yuki’s new-found confidence permanent? Or will it suddenly and terribly collapse? Finally, Tohru finds a horse in the middle of the woods, and she immediately realized it was Isuzu “Rin” Souma. Why is she in the middle of the woods in her zodiac form? And why does she seem so angry at Tohru?
Episode 9: My Precious…
Review: Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 9 Best In Show
In Fruits Basket Season 2 episode 9, “My Precious…,” Kyou Souma experienced a startling revelation: his name sounded really special when Tohru Honda spoke it. It was with this in mind that he told Tohru about Akito Souma’s summons. Tohru was ecstatic, because she misinterpreted the Akito’s gesture as one of kindness and acceptance of Kyou. Very few things could be farther from the truth. In fact, when Kyou met with Akito, it became clear that it would be a monumental contest of wills. Can Kyou emerge unscathed despite Akito’s almost supernatural ability to destroy the emotional foundation of any Souma? Or will Akito continue to run rampant through Kyou’s psyche?

Review: Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 10 Best In Show
In Fruits Basket Season 2 episode 10, “Who Are You,” Tohru Honda learns that the Soumas meeting with Akito Souma was not the happy occasion she’d imagined it to be. She overhead a conversation between Kyou Souma and Momiji Souma, and the reality terrified her. She quickly hid her fear under her usual aura of cheerfulness. Meanwhile, Akito was trying to deal with a rising rage at the influence Tohru exerted on the Souma family. The rage boiled over, and Akito snuck out to pay a nighttime visit to the vacation house. Sensing what Akito was trying to do, Momiji Souma tried to protect Tohru — and incurred Akito’s wrath. What will Akito do to Momiji in order to get to Tohru? And just what does Akito plan to do to Tohru?
Episode 11: All Mine
Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 11 Best In Show Review
In Fruits Basket Season 2 episode 11, “All Mine,” Tohru Honda was still determined to break the Souma curse. But instead of mindlessly attacking Akito Souma (in particular) or the Souma curse (in general), she took a much more intelligent approach. She asked for help from someone she could trust: Kazuma “Shishou” Souma. What he had to say might surprise you (it surprised me!). Kagura Souma demanded that Kyou Souma take her on a date before she would let him tell her his big news. It’s clear that she has strong feelings for Kyou. Just how strong, and more importantly why they were so strong, required all of Kyou’s newfound maturity to accept. But how would he think of her afterward? And what did he want to tell her?
Episode 12: You Cried for Me
Fruits Basket Season 2 Episode 12 Best In Show Review
In Fruits Basket Season 2 episode 12, “You Cried for Me,” we’re reminded that Mayuko Shiraki wasn’t only the teacher who used a book to smack Kyou Souma in the head back in season 1 episode 10. She was also the best friend of the woman whose memory Hatori Souma had to erase because of Souma family machinations. Centered, of course, on Akito Souma. Shiraki had been in love with Hatori, though she’d hidden it from her friend. Now, it seemed like Shigure Souma felt nostalgic for those old time, and he went to visit Shiraki in her father’s old book store. What’s his goal? Does he really just want to talk to an old friend? Or does he have something else in mind — like he always does?
