Good Smile Strikes Again: Rem from Re:ZERO!

Have you ever visited the Good Smile Company store? If so, then you know how dangerous it is for your wallet! If you haven’t visited before, do take a look. I’m not an affiliate or anything, so you know I have no financial motivation to say that I’ve never found a better place to collect high quality anime figures!

Speaking of such, I’d like to share one of my newest additions with you: Rem from re:Zero!

Rem was my favorite character from that series. If you preferred Emilia or Ram, please know that I bear you no ill will! But what Ram did to free Subaru in episode 15 was one of the most heroic and powerful and heart-breaking things I’ve ever seen. There was no way she wasn’t going to be my favorite character after that!

I feel like I’m repeating myself ever time I write one of these collectable posts, but this figure’s detail is amazing. The cut of her dress, the ribbons in her hose, her bright smile — everything’s spot on. She looks like she walked right out of the anime, shrank a bit, and ended up on my desk.

Good Smile Company packed the figure in a strong cardboard box that’s tightly sealed. The inner box used vacuum-formed plastic to suspend the figure safely in the center of the box. I can’t decide which company does a better job of packaging their goods: CDJapan or Good Smile Company! I’ve never received damaged goods from either.

Isn’t she adorable?

Ordering directly from Good Smile Company means you get genuine product – maximum quality and fidelity! There’s a downside, though. I ordered Rem in February 2017. I received her in June 2018. Yeah, that’s some serious lead time! You can still find the product on eBay, but I’m not convinced I trust all of those listings — even the ones that say they’re from Good Smile. I had a bad experience once…

Have you had any experiences ordering from eBay or other sources? Any good luck stories? Have you collected any Re:Zero figures? I’d love to hear about your experiences!

  1. I’ve never bought from the Good Smile store, only from the Crunchyroll store (they used to send a ‘deal’ email every day, but I don’t know if they still do, I don’t get it). And I’ve only bought nendoroid figures. I find that I usually don’t really care for the poses they use for the static figures, and don’t really get interested in posable figmas. Plus the chibi super-deformed art style of the nendoroids helps me to not feel like some skeevy old man creeping on a figure.

I’ve got 5 or so: Tohka Yatogami (Date a Live), Tsubasa Hanekawa, Celty Sturluson, Miss Monochrome, and Maou (Maoyuu Maou Yuusha). I also have a mini-set of µ’s in their Sore wa Bokutachi no Kiseki outfits. The only nendoroid I don’t have that I really really wish I’d gotten is the original Megumin.

And I don’t know how anyone could have come through ReZero not thinking that Rem is the best, AND thinking that there’s no way that Subaru deserves someone as awesome as her.

Okay, confession time: I kinda feel that way _every_ time I order a figure! Even my wife looks askance at me…

Sounds like you have some cool figures! Tohka Yatogami and Miss Monochrome in particular sound awesome. I still chuckle when I think of how Miss Monochrome somehow managed to find a battery charger…

Both excellent points! Nothing against Emilia, but come on! How many times did Emilia withstand having her body twisted almost in two and still save Subaru?

      1. See, that’s why I stick to nendoroids!

Tohka is one of those characters that I really liked both because her design is terrific and because she’s voiced by Marina Inoue. The biggest problem with Date-a-Live is that it sidelines her by making her the first girl, and then she’s only used as comic relief and mop-up duty.

That’s why I found it so hard to finish the last episodes. I really liked Tohka, too — hated to see her screen time reduced!

Please let me know what you think!
