Grisaia: Phantom Trigger Episode 7 – Quick Summary
In Grisaia: Phantom Trigger episode 7, “Bluest Blue #2,” Haruto continues to participate in operations with his master, Aoi. But Haruto feels frustrated. He feels like he can’t be the warrior Aoi needs him to be – for her own personal, dark reasons. He confides in Enishi Urushihara, who tries to help him rely on his own inner sense of justice. Then, Enishi found himself arrested. Aoi and her team decide to go in after him. Things went downhill from there.

Favorite Quote from Grisaia: Phantom Trigger Episode 7
Haruto is way too young to bear this burden. Though I’m not sure what a good minimum age would be. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Affection and charity can take very different forms, based on circumstance. Haruto called it justice; but I’m not sure that’s really what he was after.
There’s a shot early in this episode, just at the end of an operation, when Haruto looks over to see Aoi sitting, cross-legged. Haruto’s face showed shock, because she was casually holding a pistol against her temple.
We’ve known she wants to die. I still don’t quite know why, but it’s part of who she is. The moment I just mentioned is notable because Haruto didn’t try to stop her. He didn’t cry out. Instead, he waited.
Later, that moment still weighing on him, Haruto trained with Enishi. Haruto confided that he wanted to become stronger. He said that Aoi wanted someone stronger than herself to kill her.
“So,” Haruto said (04:43), “I want to be the one who grants her wish instead of some random stranger.”
For Haruto, however he would express it to himself, this was an act of charity and compassion for Aoi. It made me reflect on the form such sentiment, or perhaps convictions, take, depending on the circumstance.
This is not a world I’d want to live in. Given where we are, though, I’m afraid I have to admit: I have no choice. We’re already here.
Favorite Moment from Grisaia: Phantom Trigger Episode 7
Sometimes, all you can do is exhaust your options. That’s a victory, of sorts. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
There’s a moment in the previous episode where Aoi comments that her favorite gun had come from her previous master, who was now deceased. The weapon had been found out of ammunition. Aoi commented that finding the gun depleted was a good thing. It meant her master had gone down only after exhausting her other options.
My favorite moment was a callback to Aoi’s observation. We knew all along that Aoi wasn’t getting out of this alive. That wasn’t the sad part. Or it might be better to say it wasn’t the unexpected sad part; it wasn’t a punch in the gut because we expected it.
Because of my favorite quote, Aoi’s death was sad because Haruto had no role in it. He wasn’t even present. And we knew he wanted to be, for her sake.
Haruto couldn’t be with her in the end. But at least she didn’t die alone. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
It was a nice emotional touch to show Ichiru placing a cigarette between Aoi’s lips and lighting it for her. It was poignant to see the smoke stop as Aoi breathed her last; then see Ichiru remove the cigarette and continue smoking it.
The real emotional capstone came with Aoi returned to find they had already removed the body. He related what Ichiru had told him, including this (14:37): “And what was left at the scene was her fallen-over bike and an empty gun.”
That drove the moment home. It evoked the finality of the moment; it summed up Aoi’s life as someone who had given her all. Her all hadn’t been good enough. But she didn’t give up until she’d exhausted all options. I guess in a world like this one – a world terribly like ours – sometimes that’s the best we can hope for.
Live hard, die young, and leave a beautiful corpse.
