Hell’s Paradise Season 2 Episode 25: Favorites – Quick Summary
In Hell’s Paradise Season 2 Episode 25, “Endings and Beginnings,” Choubei, Gantetsusai, Fuchi, and Touma tried to recover from their last battle. They still had to get to the boat gate, and they still had a lot of ground to cover. The same could be said for Shion and Nurugai, who had to move slowly given Shion’s injured state. But even the sketches of plans they had couldn’t survive what happened next as the walls crumbled. Can any of our heroes survive the chaos that ensued?

That was not an answer Touma expected. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Experience changes a person. It changes their perception of what’s weird, and when compared to someone without that experience, the result can be jarring.
You can experience this kind of thing if you listen to police officers, firefighters, or veterans talking among themselves. Their sense of humor might seem scandalous to someone without those experiences. But to them, it’s harmless blowing off of steam.
Choubei’s like that.
After their discussion of world-shattering importance (was, or was not, Gantetsusai’s new eye patch cool at an angle), Touma seemed eager to change the subject. Since this was their first quiet moment since Choubei double-crossed the Tensen, Touma asked what had happened in the time Choubei had spent with them.
“Huh?” he said (05:21). “Oh, just a bunch of bochu jutsu and letting them dissect me.”
I believe it’s fair to say Touma regretted asking.
Favorite Moment from Hell’s Paradise Season 2 Episode 25
I wonder if Yuzuriha really enjoyed being missed. I think she did. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
Setup: Densely Packed Action
If I had to describe this episode in four words, they would be “All hell broke loose.” It suits this show, you know? Pretty much on brand. Well-executed, from the perspective of pacing that kept my attention.
Not only that, but we got some fun revelations. At least, they were to me. Maybe you already caught hints. For example, we learned that Shija, who Redditor SubZeroMonarch described as “a highly skilled trained to kill goth ninja yandere,” is working to inherit a title. And that title is Gabimaru. So apparently the guy I’ve been calling Gabimaru has a real name somewhere.
And it seems that Shija is rather taken with the current Gabimaru.
We also learned that yes, Shugen is every bit as dumb as he seemed. He’s completely ignoring the fact that the “criminals” (to be fair, some of them are pretty criminal-ly) and Yamada Asaemon types had to pull together just to survive. He wants vengeance for Eizen, which is understandable. I just wish the guy would find out who was guilty first.
Nuanced he ain’t. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
I mean, he plans for his vengeance to be fatal. He should be a little more responsible about it.
None of that leads to my favorite moment, which I think you can probably guess. I’ve made no secret of my fondness for Yuzuriha. So when we saw her mucus-strand attack (which is a really strange sentence to type, by the way), I was elated.
It nearly qualified as my favorite moment. There was artistry in showing her attack first. It gave attentive viewers a chance to get excited first. I appreciated that. While it wasn’t my favoriote moment, it did set it up.
Delivery: Guess Who’s Back?
Sagiri and Mei were happy to see Yuzuriha, and it was only partly because she had just saved the two from two critters riding on other, horse-like critters.
As if nothing had happened, Yuzuriha said (16:48), “Hey.”
As she explained she was late because she had to find something to wear, her thoughts let us in the audience know she had needed the time to heal. Even as she asked (17:04), “Did you miss me?”, both Sagiri and Mei had locked Yuzuriha in a huge hug. The ninja didn’t seem to expect it. I think she actually felt touched.
Now, that by itself qualified as my favorite moment. Ah, but this is Hell’s Paradise! We’re not allowed to have merely warm emotions. As they hugged, Yuzuriha saw three ninjas getting ready to murder them. So she dispatched them.
A tender moment is no excuse to let your guard down. Capture from the Crunchyroll stream.
In response to Sagiri’s attempt to explain they were supposed to be on their side, Yuzuriha affected a sad expression and said (17:17), “Oh, you sweet, summer child. Unlike Gabi, you’re so nice and sweet!”
I’m going to miss this show. The animation kept my interest, the story had a lot of nuance that I enjoyed, but most of all, I liked the characters. I hope we get an announcement of a third season soon.
What did you think of Jikka’s conversation with Shija? What were your favorite moments? Feel free to let me know in the comments!
